VF-114 1979-1981 USN retired AE-1 Price. The Tomcat wil ALWAYS be the greatest AC ever, when i saw one take of in Zone 5 AB at Memphis Tn in 1978 while i was in Electronics school, i KNEW it was the BIRD for me! That era was so special, it`s really hard to describe.
I am not going to buy this video off militaryvideocom. I someone has please advise if the film maker got the facts right about the British instructors. USA publicity machine has a habit of not telling the WHOLE truth..."TOP GUN" was essentially a British/USA joint initiative. There are guys out there that know this....
The Phantoms were used on the UK Royal Navy Aircraft Carriers: HMS Arkroyal and HMS Eagle. The UK instructors really were the foundation of what became "TOP GUN" as it was emerging in 1972 to 1975. The seed was the USN 121 squad based at Miramar with MD Phantoms.
The Brits also trained the Dutch, German and Indian air forces in air to air combat techniques.
To this day the UK fighter squadrons are regarded as world class.
At 0:41 the guy on the right is from the UK RN I guess...there were 4 UK instructors with the Phoenix Squad at the Miramar base. In Viet Nam era USN had a poor kill rate...2/1...UK were better in air to air dog fights...the Uk guys came from the RN 764 of Lossiemouth, Scotland. The Royal Navy had purchased MD Phantoms and were sent over to SD to train on 'em. The UK guys were so good at killing in air combat they were asked to stay on as instructors.
this vid is from vf-124 a f-14 training squadron for pilots before they go to their fleet squadron. top gun was the hanger next door. i was in vf-124 ao shop in the early 80's
Can a chain of bullets be magnetically enhanced to become magnetically charged with a small amount of negative electro charge. If the chain of bullets had a non friction magnet force, less vibration and could be faster through the gun and gun be a magnetic gun also.
a little old, topgun has been in lovely Fallon Nv. the planes look new in this vid and sailors are wearing real dungarees. the f14 would eat a swarm of super hornets for breakfast. it was designed to combat a badass mig, that would also eat hornets. the reason we dont need the f14 is because there isnt as much competition as there used to be in air superiority. they are also falling apart... and ya know the f22-23 was designed in the 90's so we have still yet to see a 21st century aircraft.
the tomcat was the most sexy bad ass aircraft when it came to the cat's to be shot out the way the nose came down to me was " im on my way to kick some ass "
except that the 4000 never entered service... and the 2000 is closer to the F-16 in capabilities.... o' yeah and niether can land on a carrier.............
This footage was shot for a 1974 Navy training film by Herk Harvey, director of "Carnival of Souls."

Dear All,
I have some questions about psychology on aviation:
*Why do we love flying?
*Why do we relate flying with our full potentials and with our successes?
*Why do we use the phases "take off" and "fly high" as a kind of adjectives to describe our success of our hard working?
*Why do we used the word "runway" as a expression of optimistic future of a person/ a team?
*Why do we relate aviation with freedom?
THANK YOU IN ADVANCE for your creative ideas and brainstorm!!!

IHOP? Not that I remember. It was either called the RAG (obvious) or "hardcore," to differentiate it from the training segment of 124.
So, those guys in FRAMP would be "124-framp" But if you worked for the squardon, you were simply "124-Hardcore."
EdgemanLL2 3 years ago
that was just a nickname "house of pain" they had then. yea i went to 124-framp before i went to 124.

ReplayDiesel69 4 years ago
contrary to what the movie top gun says, top gun is for new pilots, that is where they learn to dogfight, against the vets.
soulboarder316 4 years ago
topgun isnt aobut the bes, its the equivelant to The Air Force's Red Flag it teaches how to fly in dogfights, its not a competition by itself
