The reason GF didnt win an Oscar is because the Oscars convention is generally full of shit. This is quite evident from the fact that Scorsese didn't win one until The Departed, plus look at who won it when he was nominated: Redford; Levinson; Costner. I could go on, groan, groan groan.
martin made one of the best movies here. its crazy. everytime i start watching goodfellas it sucks me right in. and ive seen the movie a million times.
I was so blown away with Goodfellas when i first saw it that i sat through it again for the next showing. I felt like i was IN that world at the end of the film. Simply shaking my head at how incredible the film was. The Godfather is Hollywood. GOODFELLAS is REAL.
I have evolved into buying DVDs that have extras only. When you watch how a film you like was made, you'll gain another 50% or so on what the film was really about. May be I should start uploading them on youtube [as soon as I figure how lol]
Hey i'm doing my coursework on Scorsese and would really like your opinions. my question is 'The filmic world of Martin Scorsese is raw, dark and brutal'. please, please. please comment. thanks
I can only go off of what I have read about the real-life counterparts to the characters that feature in his films, but he seems to have no qualms about telling it like it is, and in most cases SHOWING it as it is. that takes either similar repressed, but controlled emotions (controlled because it's directed toward film/art, as opposed to beating somebody up in a thoughtless rage)
I think that's why Scorsese is so respected, because he has the balls to say "I don't care if you want the nice stuff but would rather not have to sit through the other side of it all...this is how it is, and this is how you're gonna get it."
Also where he doesn't make the mistake a lot of "gangster movie" directors make is, his movies, certainly his gangster/MAFIA movies aren't all about guns, knives, beatings, and murder. they're about "the life" as a whole. The "high life" aspects and the "tightrope" they walk, whether they're a soldier or a boss.
That was also a master stroke with The Sopranos by David Chase, it was about "the life" as a whole, not just the brutal stuff, and not just the nicer stuff like cars, mansions & cash.
Whoah, easy there Amigo. We all know about the African boat rides to Sicily. But thats merely one part of the whole country. And lets not forget there is mixed blood from back in the Roman days when Rome virtually conquered the world and brought back slaves of every demonination. That being said, anyway you cut it, there are still a boatload of 100% full bloods out there....the crazy bastards that they are. And we love them for it
@Rvd420WHAT There's no such thing as "full blood" anything. All the so called "races" are illusury, any geneticist will tell you that theres more difference in the dna of two people from the same ethnicity than of two people from different "races"
That's what I always say when people go on about how immigrants should go back to "their" country, nobody is living in their "home" country, at least not when it comes to ancestry and blood.
DiCaprio is one of the best actors of his generation and makes a greater partner with Scorsese. As good as De Niro WAS, he's too busy wasting his immense talents on movies like Showtime and Rocky & Bullwinkle. He's past his prime.
@GimmeKitty great comment, was on my mind all the time, these extras, if you already have seen the movie, become more interesting than the movie itself, passing from raging bull to these one, i have to thank you for all the nights I lost !
It's called a tautology, meaning he said the same thing twice but in different words. Like, "It was hot, and it was the opposite of cold". I do it ALL the time, by mistake lol
I love marty, I love Ray, I love Pesci and bobby. wow what a movie. marty knows the best actors more than any director, like look @ dicaprio. leo is da finest right now
Love de niro but please. the most variation he has showed is his attempt at comedy, e.g meet the parents and thats a joke of a stretch. Di caprio's range is only rivalled by a few. nothing to do with these guys, its a different generation.
he was good Di Caprio really gets better and better on every movie in the 90s I thought he was a bad actor, but now I changed my mind about him with movies like Blood Diamond and the Departed
martin scorsese is definitely a made man!

This is great.
I would have never expected Paul Sorvino being so nervous about not being able to live up to the character he played.
He did a terrific job, fooled me, I thought maybe he actually had been a mob boss at some point in his life haha
