An unethical use of operant conditioning. Poor guy!

I don't get it. If the subject was Operantly Conditioned wouldn't he not care that the girl rejected him. Furthermore since he received no punishment(except not getting the date) then how would they be getting back at him?

I don't see why he shouldn't be upset after the girl rejected him. He was positively reinforced for working out, so he shapes his behavior to receive more reinforcement. At the end of the video, the positively reinforcing stimulus is effectively removed and the subject exhibits frustration. They didn't have to use punishment to get back at him. Instead they created an expectancy and failed to deliver. Furthermore, they were able to shape his behavior to "make him look like a goof."
