How far can this Laser go? Or have I got the wrong idea, because I've got a Laser pen (532nm wavelength / 1mW) that can be seen at about 2 miles away. I understand that Lasers are concentrated beams of light that in theory can go on forever. But if you were at the transmitting end, how far away do you think you could hit an object at?

nothing those cheap lasers you buy are just white light lasers with a filter on the lense to make it look red green and what not, the properties of a wave are defined by the wave length and its intensity by the amplitude. some waves transfer more energy than others which is why lasers are able to burn stuff

Enough exposure can cause burns on the cornea which can scar and cause blindness. I used to weld with lasers and Electron beam welders for about 5 years so I have had my fair share of experience with them.

As for the 5% statement... that's because breast and skin cancer are prevalent. Much more than 5% of lung cancer patients are smokers. For those wanting to quit and have tried several methods... try e-cigs - helped me quit a 17 year habit on day 1. I see that girl smoking and I can't believe that was me 6 months ago. Phew!

@OrthodoxAtheist Aside from cigarettes there are things in the air can give you lung cancer. I quit when they got to 5 Euro a pack, still when I drink I tend to crave a cigarette. Also, there are other things one can get like heart disease, Emphysema, Bronchitis and even Pneumonia. I lived in Germany. Maybe it was different there than the U.K.
