  • JUST got done singing this for my school's choir concert. It was the first solo I'd ever done, and I just wanna say...THANK YOU, MRS. MENZEL!! I was a nervous wreck until my friend shook me and said "Is Kate afraid of anything? Does Kate give a damn about what people think? NO! So you shouldn't either!"

  • *AHEM* Arms. Then the face. Then the character. It's not about perfect singing, Kate isn't perfect. So Idina was amazing. :D

  • This is one of the best performances I've seen from her.

  • What's with the shitty applause at the end??? :/

  • She's so ugly here.

  • @YoungOscarWinner I'm sorry, I couldn't hear you over the sound of Idina being flawless in whatever she does.

  • what does she pull out of her bra sniff at 1:16? Coke?

  • Incomprehensibly brilliant... I still get chills after having watched this performance about a hundred times...

Is there anything this woman can't do?

  • Holy @#%%#$^ SH%T. This just reaffirms how insanely talented Idina Menzel is. For all her critics, no one can dispute her acting. It is palpable!!

  • bad to live where I live, is not seen these musicals! ... luckily there is youtube.

    I love Idina!

  • 3:32 i love this little dance!

  • @TotallyBonkers123 i know EXACTLY wat u mean

  • I think may girl crush may have just got bigger.. I'm not a lesbian or anything, just saying if I was ;)

  • I love the fact that you can't even recognize her by the way she looks, but you know it's her because of the voice, and the signature crazed look she gives with the eyes. (:

  • I always get scared that the match will burn her fingers at the beginning!

  • 0:31 her arms omg -dead-

  • @xInLuvxWiTxUx Ahaha, ikr :O

  • @xInLuvxWiTxUx That's what I noticed, too!

  • she was amazing!!!

  • She's fantastic

  • she is truly an inspiration, just brilliant

  • my god! she is incredible!

    i absolutely adore her!!

  • Point me to the mike!

  • WHAT'S THE NAME OF THIS PLAY?? I WANNA KNOW!!!

  • @BabyVIsinbayeva Really? Like it says below the video.... Idina Menzel performing "The Life of the Party" in 2000's Off-Broadway production of Andrew Lippa's "The Wild Party."

  • @BabyVIsinbayeva the wild party

  • @BabyVIsinbayeva the wild party

  • @BabyVIsinbayeva ACTUALLY IS THE WILD PARTY NOT THE LIFE OF THE PARTY...

  • brilliant.

  • I was like she could play a very good elphaba then I wad like oh yeah it's her realy love her voice!

  • So much talent. And I love her in this demented role. Absolutely fantastic. Love how she goes from laughing to sobbing at the end.

  • Ha, I love Idina when she's acting like a crazy psycho :D

  • what i love about this is it does NOT even look like her! but you know its her -- the voice!! omg she's amazing.

  • Best performance ever!

  • I don't usually love Idina, but I think this was one of her better performances

  • i love idina.

and this is an amazing performance.

  • LOL at the whimpy applause at the end. such a fierce number but only like five people in the house. gotta love them tiny off-broadway theatres.

  • 1:23..... freaking hot. ahhhh hahaa

  • Beautiful eyes. Gorgeous smile.

  • Love her.

  • Crazy eyes O.O

Love idina!!!!! She can just melt into character!

  • Lol I love her.

  • Man i fraking love Idina. shes so fierce!!

  • Leave it to idina to rock this like it can never be rocked again.

  • man arms...

  • seriously, what an amazing performance. She truly brings the character to life. Idina is just awesome, she is so full of energy!

  • i wanna know what her parents and taye said after they saw this for the first time.

  • @dancydancer1019 Well Taye was I'm the show, too. And in an equally (or more) risqué role sooo...

  • @dancydancer1019 they probably said damn you're a good artist/actor/performer

  • @dancydancer1019 taye was in the musical with her....

  • this is one of my favorite songs Idina sings. This performance of it is just incredible the singing, dancing, and acting whoo hoo. And dam those arm muscles I have pretty big arm muscles myself (not to toot my own horn) but DAM she was definitely hitting the gym before she performed this. I really wish more people would give broadway a chance so they could see talent like THIS!!!

  • My God she is amazing. I just love everything about Idina.

  • Wow, four people are idiots.

Dee started her concert in Minneapolis this last Friday with this and I loved it, it was one of the best performances she has given of it.

    <3

  • A girl got Best of Show for this solo musical at our District drama competition and in the middle of it she did the same thing with the crack in the necklace and everyone started busting out laughing and applauding! It was amazing!

  • @Velociactor hey we're in the same district lols :) see you at one acts!!!

  • @Krzripgirl NO WAY!!! What troupe?!?!?!?! I'm 5621!

  • Holy Jesus, those arms....

  • I LOVE Idina for Wicked and RENT, and this is my first Wild Party video. I think it was really good!

  • Dang. It's hard to call her my role-model after her character as Kate in this song... But I still love her! :P

  • The performance is a hot mess. I emphasize the word "hot" because I mean it as a compliment, and I absolutely loved it. Lippa, Idina, the band, the director, the choreographer, etc. do an amazing job of making this sound and look sloppy and unstable, which is really what it's supposed to be. Great job!

  • i'd like to be that extra who gets to grab her boobs ;P

  • :-O !!!!!!!!!

  • Hott

  • OMG SHE IS AMAZING!! such a fun role to be playing too! man i love idina!

  • I love when people forget that this song, like most musical theatre, isn't about perfect vocals. It's about the acting. Save the accuracy of perfect notes and technique for the cast recording (which she did). Leave the tragedy of the character for the stage. She's absolutely brilliant. Kate would never have a perfect voice. That's the whole point of this song. She's fucked up, alone and talentless. It's like Natasha Richardson's Sally Bowles. Love.

  • One of her finest moments

  • @JCLAWS

She's belting... The timbre of her voice is just high, so when she belts as high as she is, it can sound like she's screaming.

  • @BlueJeanBaby012

No. I am a professional opera singer and a vocal teacher, I know what belting is, this is screaming. That's why she can;t sing anymore. She never had a healthy belt, even on original Rent recording. Her voice was very interesting, but it is not even close to what it was because she sang incorrectly.

  • She reminds me of Bernadette Peters here! lol

    She's so amazing. :(

I wish I could be in a musical. There's such shitty community theatre in Miami.

  • i <3 this song! learning it in voice lessons! =D <3 ¡yay!

  • 3.40 - The 'crazy eyes' we know and love from 'No Good Deed'

    Ohh I love you Idina :) <3

  • her face at the end...... 2 priceless for words.

  • I love Idina's smile it's so cute! I love how someone as sweet as she is can transform into this kind of character lol

  • this makes her look like a slut but the song is amazing!!!!

  • @wickedgirl925 Well, that's kind of what the role is supposed to be....

  • @veronicamae1 yeah i know it's just kindof funny cuz it doesn't really look like her

  • @wickedgirl925 well obviously u havent payed attention to the show....:(

  • @ajallo77 I'm a newer fan srry

  • @wickedgirl925 what were you expecting. elphaba?

  • @ChannelTin no. i didn't know what to expect. that was the first time i saw this video

  • @wickedgirl925 No. That's LITERALLY the role. That's like saying Brian Darcy as Shrek makes him look like an ogre. Haha.

  • @CloudcoleVII I know that now. when i commented i was a newbe fan

  • Such a wonderful voice! and wow look at them biceps! She has good arms. sounds odd right xD but they aren't too skinny and not flabby they have that nice amount of muscle! xD i' odd lol

  • whoa....awesome arms

  • she is like a young rutie henshall truely amazing :D

  • Comment removed

  • Holy biceps...

  • when i see her in this i can see her as nancy in oliver and chiagco and carabret muscials like that she can do it xx

  • I LOVE THIS! Her arms are A MAZ ING - totally jacked guns - softball arms - whatever you want to call them but DAYUM that woman is hot and talented and I FUC*ING love her!

  • I love Idina's voice in this! It's excellent

  • wow, this scared me a little bit, but Indina is amazing!

  • I love this so much! Thanks for uploading Erin xo

  • yes there is a soundtrack..

  • What's this song's context in the show? It's amazing.

  • I love her. :) So much.

  • This character reminds me of Maureen Johnson

  • Even if she really did have asthma, it has nothing to do with vocal talent.

  • IS THERE A SOUNDTRACK OF THIS?!?!

  • @BeLoudBeProud Yes. It's readily available on Amazon, iTunes. :)

  • @BeLoudBeProud yes.

  • @BeLoudBeProud

of course there is a soundtrack to this musical.

original 2001 - off broadway cast recording, music by andrew lippa.

  • This should've been Tony Award Winning Performance. Just perfection.

  • Omg she can play one hell of a slut! Lol luv u idina!!!!!!

  • she's perfection in this video (not saying she isn't damn close a lot of the time!). Her singing, dancing, acting... Amazing :D

  • ...she also could be gasping because she's dancing while belting her brains out?

and dang, she's JACKED in this video! Never really noticed before. Go Idina Go!

this character sort of reminds me of a way crazy Maureen from Rent.

  • Idina is my icon i love her voice her acting her she is my role model my inspiration for getting into theater watching her just highlights the many reasons why it's who i am and I've got to do it :)

  • I honestly think, Idina should do her hair like that for a year, it looks great! :)

  • yikes! That's so not what happened. lol. And panic attack vs. asthma... = ? doesn't relate at all. If it was, they'd call it the same thing ;)

  • her performance of defying gravity at the Tony awards was fantasticly done, but it is rumoured that she had tonsilitis and belting out the notes she has to, its no wonder she needs to gasp for air otherwise she would become lightheaded and lose her place, and also she does have to project her sound to the back of the performance theatres, not an easy task . In rent you can hear her gasping when singing take me or leave me, but again, she has some high and long notes she has to sing.

  • This is Crazy Good!!! her eyes look like they're gonna pop out of her Face!!!!

  • she had the flu when they performed at the Tony awards with defying gravity.

Also you don't have to have asthma to have an panic attack

  • crazy brilliant!

  • i did a dance to this song (:

  • SHE is amazing in anything! She can do anything and rock it!! I love her :D.. and she looks amazing too ;)

  • "Idina has asthma" is a YouTube rumor. Never has Idina ever spoke of such a thing (and she has spoken of innumerable personal 'flaws'), nor has there ever been any respectable publication stating as such. And how is a panic attack related to asthma? Idina looked nervous during the DG performance and she lost some of her vocal training. She wasn't suffering from asthma or a panic attack.

  • can i just ask how being asthmatic comes under having a 'personal flaw' ? Its not a flaw its a medical condition. im not disagreeing with you here by the way because i agree that it cannot be proven that she does have asthma as she has never stated so. But on the same note she has never stated she doesnt either.

  • I'm not saying asthma is a personal flaw. I put it in quotes to summarize it as flaws and other perceived imperfections.

And if she's never said she has it, or doesn't have it, why would anyone assume she does? Because she sings gaspy sometimes?

  • @veronicamae1 i dont know why people would assume she has or hasnt just because shes a bit gaspy, that can be put down to anything even something as simple as a cold can cause you to gasp when singing. and sometimes even just simply to get in enough air to belt out the notes.

  • @veronicamae1 it wasn't asthma or "losing vocal training". She was sick the day of the Tony Awards. You can hear it in her thank you speech too.

  • WOWZA

  • this song is so...really: empowering.... if only i had the guts 2 sing this more than when i'm hiding with maddie in the bandroom! this song is so up my ally!

  • Wow. That was actually amazing!

  • this woman is a goddess

  • No surprised! She's amazing and everything she does!

  • woderfull!!!!!

  • I love Idina! and the Lippa version of this show!

  • Omii goshh! :D

    I love idina menzel!

But yeahh I agree she looks real fit! aahah! I envy her!

I love this song and her voice! :D

    xx.

  • Holy guns batman

  • Seriously. Maybe it's the overhead lighting, but she's like... buff...

  • She's amazing!!! Theres no other words!!!

  • what talent.

her acting here is just, by no other words,

    brilliant!

  • Maybe I'm crazy, but I kind of feel a little Bernadette Peters in this performance. Am I the only one?

  • SO true, tacoflavoredkiss1. They are. And Idina. Well, Idina. What can I say? She is amazing!!!

  • exactly!!! I love her soo much

  • ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh love her.

  • love her

  • Broadway stars are SO under rated, most of the popular artists these days will never be able to sing like this and dance at the same time! they can barley even sing standing still.

  • Agreed. :-)

  • YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I always point out that it is nearly impossible to sing and dance at the same time without having a stroke! It takes TALENT, and STAMINA!

  • I know! gosh

  • plus she has asthma.... just saying

  • @farmerbrown2a especially idina, with her severe asthma

  • Idina doesn't have asthma...

  • @Tacoflavoredkiss1

So, so true. Broadway stars are the most talented performers there are, (they can sing, act and dance at the same time!) and most people don't even know their names. Most pop singers today just CANT sing, and it's sad that people idolize them, when the real talent is right there, on broadway

  • @Tacoflavoredkiss1 - i agree!!! :(

  • @Tacoflavoredkiss1 I think that's what I love most about them though. They do it purely for the love of theatre and not for money, or glory, because most broadway actors barely get big posters made for them, or have their names in big shiny letters. They are brave enough to follow their dreams.

  • @mrfreeburn You have a point there...:)

  • @Tacoflavoredkiss1 I can't agree more. Everyone I know likes mainstreem stuff, and I'm like this is so much better! these people sing live!

  • @Tacoflavoredkiss1 I tell people this ALL the time!!! I got into a debate about who's better: Broadway performers or today's popular artists? I argued Broadway performers. I won. :)

  • @Velociactor i agree :)

  • @Velociactor I agree! Broadway performers are waaaaaaaaay better!

  • Love everything about this performance. Amazing

  • She is SUCH a talented performer. I usually stop singign along once she gets to "Never feeeaarrrrrRRRRRRR!" Because her voice is just SO strong it's too hard to sing with!!!haha! ((:

  • is she wearing a wig? or else she cut her hair reallly short!

  • yeah its a wig lol

  • look at those arms. O_O

  • i feel the same way

  • MAN she is amazing! Truly one of those performances that makes you wish you were there!

  • shes talented. i love her in this role. is she the strongest one on broadway? no. did she originate many roles? yes. u cant say you don't like her portrayal of roles she originated because all of the actors who played it later were based off her. but hey. shes famous and you people are just trashing her on youtube. i don't see any of you on broadway.

  • well put :)

  • haha. i like her smile at the end. idina rocks!!!!! ☺

  • This makes me like her.

  • I never liked Idina as a Broadwayperformer, but this I LOVE!

She didn't cut it as Elphaba or Maureen for me, though I'm grateful for creating those characters. But this is just, pure genius!

  • How does the person that helped create the character's personality traits an musical score not "cut it" in that role?

  • no, that's not what I mean. I just mean that I don't like her as much as say, Julia Murney. She didn't cut it as me, as in, I don't like her Elphaba, she's the basic. Oh god, how do I explain this!? Sorry (:

  • dw mate i agree with u !!

  • Comment removed

  • i totally agree with you! i love love love Idina!

  • Yeah I wasn't crazy about her as Elphaba or Maureen either. But this is a good performance.

  • im sure you probably get tired of hearing this but you really dont like her as elphaba or maureen? idina menzel is basically the only elphaba I actually like because she was such a big influence in how Elphaba is portrayed =(

  • She is the base of what Elphaba and Maureen is but I like other people's portrayal more. I just don't like her voice that much and her acting. I love it in this and I LOVE her album. But her Elphaba or Maureen are portrayed better by other people. But that doesn't mean I don't reckon that she was the first of those roles.

  • I disagree...she had Elphaba DOWN! It was so much more natural than everyone elses, she WAS Elphaba. But yes, there have been other tremendous Elphies! Maureens? No, there really is no contest here, all others really just played her as too much of a cartoon

  • she used to be unstoppable

  • 3:33 I love the flailing arms ♥
