The Trent family are a continuation of the RB211. All RR engines sound the same. These engines are great workhorses and very reliable. (apart from the oil fuel heat exchanger on the 777) there's been very few problems. On the A350 to come, RR have secured over 1000 engine orders to date. Things are looking up for RR - I think that's great.
Have you ever been in the back of an MD-80 during takeoff? You will go deaf. I remember I was in a 737 lined up behind an MD-80 when it started it's takeoff roll. When the MD-80 spooled its engines for takeoff, the 737 shook. Yeah, they are that powerful.
Those RR's do have a unique sound. I am a pilot myself and the first time my wife was on a plane with RR engines < I think it was a A319, she asked me if something was wrong with the engines.
The brrr is created due to the turbofan blades in the engine travelling at supersonic speeds. Think lots of constant mini sonic booms whilst the engines are at full power, only its harmless.
The Rolls Royce RB 211's are great engines. This is why I love to fly 757's over Airbus
Now that is the sound I love from the 757. You can only hear that in First class or in the very first right hand bulkhead seat on Delta. Kudos, to whomever shot this.
Why thanks you, it was me. This was shot on a Jet2 757, where there is no 1st class, and where you are able to sit in the front, without paying that "little" extra.
You are wonderful. Have you ever flown the L-1011? Delta is my official airline! Of course, they are no longer in service with Delta. However, the sound of those engines on takeoff is also incredible. There is a video on here somewhere of the Delta L-1011 on takeoff. Check it out. Thanks so much for your reply.
Yeah. Sat in 6A a couople times actually-one of the best seats on the plane, wing behind you and turbine right there, nice and loud! Worst seat was 36 on the 757-200, the seat barely goes back cause its the last row.
no comparrison to the GE ENGINES. THEY ARE THE NASTIEST. THE GE,S PUT OUT MORE THRUST AND IN MY OPINION BETTER QUALITY. JUST LOOK AT THE ENGINES THAT ARE GOING ON THE NEW COMPOSITE 787.
for deddles: Rolls-Royce have the lightest but most powerful engine for the 747. So you really can't say that they are overpriced for nothing. Also Rolls-Royce cars are of extremely good quality, so that's why they cost so much(1 Rolls-royce car takes 6 months to build while a Toyota takes only 13 hours)
the "propellor" type noise you can hear is the N1 compressor blades breaking the speed of sound. If you're in first class, you hear this - if you're in economy, you hear the exhaust :)
I love that argry snarl the 757's make. this one sounds alot more muffled. you cant really hear it here man. its like nothing else. too bad the engines were made by a bunch of tea drinking metric euro union boys, they sound great!
rooney don't get mad because you look like an idiot. stick to what you know and don't EVER try to talk aircraft to a bunch of aviation nuts like the few of us who know wtf were talking about.
just so you all know thats not a boeing 757 ! haha as u can hear thats a propeller and the reason it has a shorter ground run is because its a light aircraft! this is probably a cessna or a piper lol
Just so you know... you don't know what you are talking about!
1. 757s are more than capable of making these kinds of short takeoffs. Look at John Wayne airport in California, less than a mile and bigger A300s takeoff. I've been out of SNA in a 757, and even on a short takeoff in a 757.
2. Didn't you hear the high pitched whine?
2a: You obviously need to watch more 757 takeoff vids.
dude please stop all the scientific boring plane factsand just enjoy the vid! 757 737 74 747374349834 i dont really care... but please enjoy the vid !
Clearly he is not the most intelligent. A year ago, I was in a Cessna Skyhawk because I was interested in taking flying lessons and decided to try it out once. Two months later, I was on a 757. It was more than obvious they sound nothing alike, and in recent years I have traveled on the 757 a lot.
Meg... I don't think number of people alone has to do with it, as I've been out of DFW, and CUN on 757s and the takeoff roll was pretty close to that shortness.

That was a pretty fast/smooth takeoff. Is that because it was lighter?

Yeah, not many on board the flight, if i remember there was only around 40!

United's 757s are all powered by Pratt & Whitney rather than Rolls Royce. The P&W engines also sound good, but the RR sounds better :)
