“Here is an article on how poor the quality standards are for Whole Foods Markets. They claim to be on top of the ingredients found in their products, but here is an example of how they continue to sell a product that is harmfull to the environment and not organic at all.”
Building off the grid is nearly impossible here in CT. We have to build (by law) tied to the grid and then add the PV and wind generators to that or as an entirely separate system.
Energy independance and water catchment are not too hard. I still use some gas and propane, but have been off the electric grid for years with a very modest solar and wind system and the living is easy. Moving in another 12,000 gallons of additional water tanks now over my existing 3500 for seasonal catchment (no well) and that should yield me surplus food next year (fingers crossed) here in the high plains of az. I think you will need snow shoes before reaching NH. :) Keep on!
humanure is a good start for energy independence. also helps free you from the grocery store bureaucracy that sells garbage and chemical-slathered foods for ridiculous prices. you'd think by now we'd have a better system of dealing with one of the most basic functions of the human body than dumping it into our water. it's crazy.
Not advisable for growing food, or even handling, once dried, without a respirator.
Though a strict vegan diet may reduce (or eliminate) that risk, I'd be interested to see some data... You really want to get your manure from herbivores.
i found it very difficult at first to avoid foods that are full of chemicals and nasty shit, but once you've got a bit of crop growing and you experiment with different ways of cooking stuff, a diet that humans were actually made for is pretty easy to stick to.
just about anything beats what most people are doing currently. :)
If you use renewable energy on private property and make your property self-sustainable to any degree, you will hear it referred to as the "Buchanan compound," especially if it ever gets raided. They may even call it a "fortified compound." Solar panels have had recent advances making them more efficient and less expensive to install... at least according to 1 article I've read in the Houston Chronicle.
That dog has plenty of freedom, most places have leash laws, dog has to be tied up or on a leash at all times...Deer Season is on in most states or will be shortly...wear some orange, no shortcuts through the woods.
great walk....
