@maharley27 The question you ask is the right one, why do all of these dogs look different. This is not because they are different breeds. They are all APBTs (american pitbull terrier). The truth is American Staffordshires are a completely separate breed. and Bully Pits are a pitbull that have been inbred to be very short, thick and heavy. Many people mistake pitbulls for Amstaffs. The difference is one is recognized by the AKC (the Amstaff) and the pitbull is not.

@mountainguide5 You couldnt be further to the truth man..these are not all APBTs. Most of these dogs are Bully Breeds, not APBTs, some are Amstaffs and a couple are Pitbull Terriers. If you payed closer attention you would know most are these AB's are produced from Amstaffs. Amstaffs have bigger heads, and larger bodies than APBT's. Not being recognized by the AKC has nothing to do with inbreeding and breeding standards but with a group of people who wanted nothing to do with the word Pit-bull.

@maharley27 The reason that the AKC does not recognize the "pitbull terrier" as a true breed, is because of the fact that they have been so inbred and crossbred that they have no way to prove their lineage. Both Amstaffs and Pits came from the same dog, yes, but the Amstaffs breeding was kept very true and that is why all true Amstaffs look the same. The opposite is true for the Pitbull, they all look different because there is no breeding standards, hence why AKC does not recognize them.

The reason Amstaffs look so similiar is because their main purpose for being produced is to be a showdog, this is why the most popular ones all have the same color scheme around the eyes and muzzle. Worng again, although they do vary more than the Amstaff this is because a true Pitbull is bred to be an athletic, agile, muscular working dog. not just to sit there looking pretty.
