  • yeah that stevie does have two great ideas and shes really having the idea of scale and organics ...completely understand

  • The only thing that made Romero great was that he pioneered the FPS. The genre has since outgrown him.

  • LULZ

  • what announcer should have said was "unlike many first person shooters- Diakatana won't sell, will ruin Ion Storm, turn romero into a joke, and nearly bankrupt Eidos" advanced ai my ass....

  • Lol I love the reporter just saying mhm mhm whem Stevie's speaking!

  • Lol I love the reporter just saying mhm mhm whem Stevie's speaking!

  • Ion Storm had such a great office.

  • He was just saying voluptuous because she was a playboy model.. oh and level designer and the big man's girlfriend, yeah those too.

  • Press 7

  • hahahaha damn... talk about a creepy camera guy

  • "Ion Storm's volputuous level designer"

Haha, try saying that these days on a video previewing a game and you will be forced to stop breathing. Also, that camera pan..

  • Lol camera pans to her tits, honestly bitch jus leme play with ur tits insted of that putrid pos game

  • Daikatana sucked and at 2.40 onward i can see what "distracted" romero.

  • PLAYING WITH ARROW BUTTONS

  • 3:05 was the best part xD

  • lmao camera man zooming on boobs

  • all i heard from stevie was "really feel huge" and "i love that feeling"

  • storm sector 7 was cool though

  • i tried real hard to like daikatana, but... we know that's not possible.

  • I'd motorboat the shit out of Stevie's fun bags.

  • @vbdevil Congrats, you've posted the creepiest comment on this video ever. D:

  • I liked daikatana :( sure graphics and cut scenes are laughable but the weapons are awesome and is really really HARD :D

  • Nice camera panning at 3:06. "Less talkin, more titties"

  • Nice camera panning at 3:06

  • Well, he certainly made incite PC Gaming his bitch.

  • 3:08 secret level/weapon???

  • Wow, yeah, the game sucked, but as far as that Stevie chick goes, I would hit that like the first of an angry god.

  • I lost it at advanced AI

  • 3:10 tits close!

    :D

  • 99% of daikatana's budget was spent on Stevie's breast implants.

  • 3:03 She says "Huge," then the camera pans to her tits. BRAVO!

  • Man, this game was terrible.

  • Comment removed

  • romero was banging the "" out of her back then, lucky nerd

  • Unfortunately, John Romero made no-one his bitch with this game. Epic fail flop.

  • Thank Christ he got his hair cut. :P

  • "advanced a.i."

  • Daikatana.... There's something about this game, but when it came out it ended being a fail. In a time where people playing games were expecting something maybe different and newer then a quake/doom re run. Especially considering daikatana came out after half life (almost 2 years after) this game failed to deliver cos playing it if anything the game felt like a beta, or a rushed game... The Japan thing tho.... got to love it ^^

  • @Stn3dRaid3r

I think if the dev team stuck with the Quake 1 engine, they would've avoided the management problems that would kill the games hype. It could've been released on time before UT, Half life, CS , Ouake 3, System shock 2 and Deus Ex set the fps genre on fire.

  • John cock-eyed big-headed shit-developing money-wasting cunt-stain Romero.

  • Romero only hired voluptuous level designers!

  • "and, uh.... As you go through the game, you..you, you meet. other. people.. Like psychics... And they join you."

    sounds promising :D :D

  • yay for panning down for boob shot

  • ah one of the most famus IT bubbles projects. at least they delivered a product in the end though lol.

  • 3:13 camera pan = epic win

  • I dream or he uses his mouse with his left hand

  • They didn't just introduce Stevie Case as "ION Storm's volputuous level designer" did they?

This combined with a nice zoom on her titties at 3:07 add up to a great video IMHO :-)

  • It could be a fantastic game in 1997, or even if it came out in 1998. But 2000 was her shot in the head. If that game would ever came out on time it would be a nice hit, maybe even one of those epic ones. I guess the pressure and weak team killed this game. I'm still waiting on my PSX version though... heh joke.

  • Bewb-shot at 3:09

  • LOOK AT THAT LOADSCREEN AT 1:10, I MEAN IT TAKES SOOOO FUCKING LOOOONG.

    bunch of bitches. Daikatana rules.

  • Does Romero have a bottle of lube on his desk??

  • @F0ng00l ........

    Oh good lord. D:

  • @F0ng00l hand sanatiser.

  • @F0ng00l lmfao he would

  • Watch a show called Matt Chat for an interview with Romero where he discusses Daikatana. He essentially blames the critics for not knowing how to play the game properly. The infamous ad - he says that was done by a PR person without his permission. Convenient.

  • @trmblingblustar He later said he made a mistake by letting him use it. So he actually does say he made a mistake, not just blame it on someone else.

  • i just google stevie case and i am impressed...... thanks

  • funny to hear that the AI should take care of itself... cuz im playing this right now (on win7 btw) and i think this is the worst AI of all times, i seriously dont know how many times my "sidekick" died and/or didnt even follow me (including getting stuck in all kinds of places and then dying)

  • I wonder how much blow he was doing when he made this?

  • 3:07 wow I'm creeped out.

  • It has quite bad level design at the beginning and isn't very fun to get you in to it. But it improves.

If it was released eariler it properly would have went well.

It was released after Quake 3 Arena, so it was already looking old. I think it would have been good if they focused on making it a three part story, thus cutting down the work, releasing sooner, in to a time of the Quake 2 engine and I'm sure it would have been more fine tuned.

  • I liked the first hour or two of this game when it was just a simple FPS similar to Romero's previous games. However, whenever I encountered my first sidekick, I just wanted to give up.

  • I actually finished Daikatana recently and it was an unpleasant experience from start to finish. This game had a lot of good ideas but the execution's awful. The Ion Storm programmers don't know sh!t about programming a game. They'd probably distracted by Stevie Case's boobs.

At least Daikatana tells a good story and has somewhat decent voice acting but other than that, this game is a bitch, just like that "voluptuous" level designer and John Romero's infamous ad.

  • this game sucks... ASS!!!...

  • The reason the game flopped so badly is mainly due to John's onboxious add campaign, he promised a revolutionary fps but by the time it was done it was outdated compared to Quake 3 for example. He should have seen that more monsters and weapons dont make a good game.

  • 1999 huh...?

  • Thank you camera man, I really REALLY wanted to see those tits better!

  • SUCK IT DOWN

  • Sadly the game IS really bad, a lot of flaws, seems like a rush made game... even with all the years in process to make it.

  • From a add in 1999 PC Gamer: "John Romero is about to make you his bitch"

Sadly for anyone who bought this game (I did...) it was true....

  • lol at the camera panning up and down stevie's body at 3:01 .

  • Is it just me, or does John Romero have one of those faces that just beg a slapping?

  • Game probably would have been good if they had done away with the idiot AI and just worked on the game itself

  • @kaiserwilhelm it was also scary.

  • Lol, you could see the black curtains they put over the cubicles to keep the sun out.

  • I thought it was good back when I played it, but the allies often got stuck in Doors and stuff, but it had a nice atmosphere.

  • Did anyone notice the cameraman a 3:11 getting a boob shot?

  • I don't know if there is a way to play it on Windows 7. Fat chance of it ever being on Steam or Direct2Drive.

The weapons in the game were very satisfying and some of the level designs were highly imaginative.

I think the media at this time gave the game harsh reviews mostly due to their dislike of Romero's ostentatious lifestyle.

  • @KevinBusomjack Maybe Romero will sell it via Good Old Games? Heh. I wish.

  • @Foxhack I own it, and its rubbish. its too dark to see anything, and your companions die and make you restart so often you want to kill yourself.

  • @Foxhack Good Old Games is dead :'(

  • @LKRaider No it's not. Check their Twitter.

  • @KevinBusomjack

I actually bought the game for five bucks unaware of its critical reception and still thought it was broken.

  • @KevinBusomjack you dont want to play this garbage

  • Daikatana wasn't bad. It just wasn't revolutionary the way Doom or Quake was.

All these people bashing on Daikatana have probably never played it. I have played it and it is a decent single first person shooter.

  • @KevinBusomjack I'm still hoping to play the game sometime in the future. I don't expect it to be absolutely horrible, but I'm not expecting it to be the best either. Just a game. No hype. :)

  • @Foxhack

No it´s broken beyond everything, the fucking sidekick´s get stuck everywhere and get constantly killed and you have limted saves

  • @KevinBusomjack I agree. I never believed the critics and I tried it. Just got to say it's one of the best shooters I've played, the only bad thing is the sidekicks AI

  • @ToxicGus You haven't played many shooters then. Either that or you're an imbecile with horrible taste. Have you played Deus Ex? System Shock 2? No One Lives Forever? Any of the 3 S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games? Unreal 1? Heretic? Hexen? Jedi Knight? Bioshock? Daikatana was outmatched by Unreal, a game that was released *before* it.

  • @CorruptedBios Yes, I played them all, and even more than you. Deus Ex and SysShock 2 owns, just like Daikatana and other great shooters, such as Quake and Doom and Thief. If I have a horrible tase, in your opinion, who the fuck just care? I'm not imbecile, stupid motherfucker, I'm just a gamer!

  • @KevinBusomjack Like far cry vengeance.

  • @KevinBusomjack

I own it bought it when it came out it´s a peace of shit and i hated it back then and still hate it

  • @KevinBusomjack

It was bad in my book. The enemies were bland ( the robot frogs and rats are infamous), the game play/story was forgettable, and don't even get me started on the idiocy of your team members (I hate you Superfly!) . Furthermore, by the time it came out, the game was ridiculously outdated. Is it the worst game ever? No. But it's laughable when you consider that Romero thought this game would make me his "bitch."

  • @KevinBusomjack the most reason they hated it because the adverts, for example "john romero is going to make you his bitch"

  • DAiktana is so fucking bad John Romero should face capital punishment for making that vile shit , i fucking bought that game as a child :(

  • @Wtfgames Your user name is oddly appropriate. :D

  • "Daikatana's advanced AI would take care of that"

    That's not quite true.

"The long may just be worth it"

It should have gone into dev hell instead.

    I played Deus Ex instead.

  • woah

    he's lefty mouse

  • To win The Game, you must kill John Romero...

  • I thought that was only in Doom?

  • one of the first FPS to have "Compainions". I never really got into this game when it released, my bro did. If your in a car(driving) with six other people and you dump stupe assed into the drink, and hurt or kill some of those huiman beings you'll die inside before they cart your irresponsible ass of to prison too(unless your a total jerk) that is a good repercussionfor a companion based game even if they are just virtual.

  • Ha, it's hilarious how they portray the female game designer, "Hey look she's got TITS!", haha!

  • he cleverly used the "look at her hands" as the excuse, appropriately odvious but even she had to be aware of it.(in the nineties too!)

  • she bares an uncanny resemblence to my pizza gal delivered for me all of '06/7! except the blond hair, my delivery lady had frenchie jet black with this gals all else.

  • I remember seeing an add for this game in a PC magazine. It was hilarious, and i thought 'Could this guy be more full of himself?'.

I remember there were japanese characters, and some text saying 'John Romero is gonna make you his bitch'. Lol.

Never actually played the game, since 1999 was the year of Half-Life, and would eventually lead to Counter-Strike being my PC shooter game of choice up until this very day.

  • Having never to play Daikatana before and thinking I needed to experience the game myself, I decided to buy Daikatana from Amazon and after playing a few stages I've come up with a surprising conclusion that this game's really not that bad. In fact, it's kinda fun.

Sure, the game does have some flaws like your stupid sidekicks (1:22- Advanced AI my ass), unbalanced controls and unimpressive enemies but overall, it's an underrated PC game.

Trust me, there are plenty worst games than this.

  • Of course there's worse games out there.

    I own a Sega CD. :D

  • Haha, Sega CD huh? I heard a lot about its suckiness although there are some good games like Sonic CD. Consider yourself lucky of not owning the Sega 32X or Philips CD-i.

  • Oh don't get me wrong, there are some -amazing- games on the system. I love it. Unfortunately, it's also filled with unplayable FMV crap that clutters up the good to bad ratio. :(

  • Ah yes, the infamous full motion videos which took only a small portion of the screen and were badly pixelated for some. What are your favorite Sega CD games?

  • As of right now, The Terminator, and Ultraverse Prime. 'Course, I wish I could record them for Youtube, but I can't at the moment. :(

  • I would love to see them.

  • And I would love to post them! But if you saw my recent "Genesis Video Capture Fail" video, well, now you know why I can't post 'em. :p

  • even if this game be the best game ever people is ready to hate it just because he say im gonna make you is and you suck it down

  • hehe the camera movement @ 3:08

  • Daikatana was a good idea, but it fell apart. Lack of teamwork and the integrity of the team were part of it's downfall. I mean they had people from Marvel on the art team. You just can't do that. Also that really hot blonde walking around distracting everyone wouldn't have helped.

They should have pulled an AC and used her for all their interviews.

  • I appreciate the comment.

I see Daikatana as "that game that got me interested in PC gaming."Well, the advertisement did, anyway.

I should install it sometime. See if it's as bad as everyone says.

  • It is just as bad, it's shocking that this same house put out Deus Ex.

  • Apparently u can play it for free at gametap...

  • Gametap is not available in Mexico. :(

  • If only they knew that this game sucks the big one. Sorry, John Romero. You didn't make us into your bitches.

  • Comment removed

  • Ahhhh now i understand!!! Too many women in the team... Romero did something else instead programming the game well... Look at the blonde girl....

  • lol they were actually together and she moved in with him for a while

  • Ugh I remember when this disaster released. By the time it hit the shelves it was horribly outdated.

  • Daikatana was an awful game lol

  • Comment removed

  • 3:07

    Epic cameraman win!

  • YES!

  • 3 years in the making? LOL hahaha

id rather play pacman than this game :))

  • wow stevie case has huge ass boobies

  • john romero, game desinger of dai katana

    never heard of you

owned thats probably what he actually felt about john

  • he said advanced AI lol its the quake 2 enigne the AI's weren't even advanced back in 99

  • Actually AI did not get any better these days. Ironically best bot AI ever conceived for Quake was acquired by Epic and implemented in Unreal Tournament. End of story.

  • After playing Borderlands, I have to agree that AI isn't any better these days.

  • Nero burned Rome.. your own empire.

  • that girl at the front got fired cuz of john romero. owned bitch....

  • @screwoffreg Why? What happened?

  • Daikatana sank Ion Storm.

  • yeah, she was kinda cute too :(

  • I've never played Daikatana before and I heard that the game isn't that good. In fact, it was a flop right? What a shame.

  • Oh my god, did he actually describe her as "voluptuous"?

  • Yes. Yes he did.

  • Wow. The camera actually panned down to her tits.

  • @CorporalDanLives

    WHAT A CHICK!

  • at 3:08 the camera guy really focuses on something :)

  • yeah like he say john remero make me is bitch and i suck it down thank john....eat thats mother fuucker

  • This game is hazardous to my health.

  • Damn, I was paying less attention to Killcreek and more attention to the office. Just like it was described in "Masters of Doom"... the intolerable sunlight! The tarps over every cubicle!

  • What's "Masters of Doom"? I'm curious.

  • It's a book about the careers of Carmack and Romero up until a little after the announcement of Doom 3 (they'd gone separate ways long before then). There's some talk in it about Romero founding Ion Storm and sinking a ton of money into their glass-topped penthouse office in Dallas, with cubicles with steel awnings over top to shield people from the sun (but the monitor glare still forced them to cover it all with black tarps like you see in the video). Great read if you're a Doom fan.

  • I loved that book! It's a really interesting read for any id fan or gamer.

  • Master of Doom its john carmack and john remero the two john invente doom game and...its to long to explain

  • Such a tragedy. Going from greats like Doom and Quake 2 to such a disappointment... I really feel for John Romero though. I'm not bitter about the game, it seems like he was at his height and was brought down abruptly with one bad game. I wish he'd make a recovery and a comeback. He'd probably do great in a market with things like Gears of War, God of War and Call of Duty.

  • Nice rack on Stevie Case!

  • she did a playboy set back in those times...look it up if u wanna see her..

  • Why does he have gay puppies on his monitor? That's a huge departure from the demons of Doom.

  • "the long wait just maybe worth it" NOT!!!

  • I wish games had more ads like the "BITCH" ad, that was damn funny!

  • Roflmao

  • "Surely a sidekick should be able to defend himself." Yes, they should, but they can't because they're so stupid!

  • DAI-KA-TAH-NAH

Anyone else want to kick the narrator in the throat everytime he said that?

  • Daikatana "Advance AI" lol

  • lol i played DAIKANTANA for like 5 min and shut it the fuck off after waiting years for it.. wheres DNF by the way

  • DN is dead Baby, DN is dead! XD

They canceled Duke NUkem Forever short time ago.... :(

  • damn that would have been awsome

  • Daikatana was such a fail....i tortured myself and forced myself to get as far as I could, and managed to get to the 3rd era (the snowy levels)....after that I just couldnt take it anymore. It is probably the worst fps ive ever played.

And my GOD the weapons were the by FAR the worst weapons of any fps ever.

Poor john, but they had over 3 years to make this game not completely suck ass. This game also destroyed ion storm and they lost over 30 million because of it.

  • Actually, it was Eidos who lost 30 million from the whole debacle because they were the ones dumb enough to let a company be founded on the over-inflated ego of one man. Sure, we got Deus Ex and Thief 3 from it, but I have a feeling they would have been made with or without Ion Storm.

  • that was sad, daikatana was a real epic fail,. sad for j. romero :-((((

  • Daikatana roughly translates into "REALLY big sword!"

  • Daikatana's advanced ia will take care of that..... :)

    Take care of WHAT???

  • John Romero was too distracted watching Stevie Case's boobs, this is why Daikatana failed, he was just not focused on the game. :)

  • Camera man = boob man.

    Proof @ 3:05

  • lol

That really DOES have to be more than coincidence.

  • Don't forget the fact that the first word they used to describe Stevie was "voluptuous." Way to be recognized by your credentials Stevie.

  • I love how they describe the Casey as "voluptuous".
