all these front drive biased AWD cross over vehicles should only be bought in FWD. Dealers and other shops will love you for long term ownership of any AWD vehicle...just wait. Even in the harsh winters, FWD is just as good unless you plan to attempt some trail running - but I doubt it as people don't know how to properly spend their money. AWD sucks performance and mileage. Not that anyone weighing over 200lbs will care about those two things anyway.

kia and hyundai are quite similar to its design and specs..... no doubt they came from korea... our hyundai has a 6L/100 km of consumption of diesel... thats really good

A couple of years ago I would have laughed if someone told me Kia made a car with a decent interior but i've sat in a a few of these and I have to say the interior is pretty even with the Escape and in my opinion better then the Rav4. The Journeys interior is complete garbage so that was pretty easy to beat.
I just got one and so far I love it. I got the blue one.. I wanted this color in the video but after seeing here I am glad I didn't It isn't so pretty in person.

I purchased the 2011 Kia Sorento, and could not be happier. I absolutely love my Kia. Plus with the 10Yr 100,000 Mile warranty Kia must really have confidence in their products. I have been very impressed with the vehicle's quality and my decision was between the Chevy Equinox of the Kia Sorento, and I am very happy I decided to go with the Sorento.
That color is very ugly to me but, I love my 2011 Kia Sorento and I want to thank Kia for giving AMERICANS jobs. I don't care what people think, this car has been awesome to drive so far. If you are thinking about buying one, please do so immediately and tell everyone who is against you to shut up and watch how a company sells cars!!
This vehicle is nice, but do not let it fool you. This car is built in an area where nearly all of the work force does shoddy, low quality work. They cannot build a decent house. Almost all houses in this area have had major work done over the entire length of their warranty. They built a new addition to my school that needed a new roof, new staircases, new plumbing, new flooring, etc. This car will more than likely, be in the shop the entire time of the warranty. Please consider other cars.
@giannial1985 I sure did. But i will tell you that this car resembles no audi in any way, and i couldnt see a audi badge on it. The styling is nice and sharp,but what kills this car is the interior, which audi did not design. :) ps, the audi that this designer designed was last generations TT

Why was he comparing this to the Ford Escape and Toyota RAV4? Those are smaller SUV's that compete with the Kia Sportage, this thing is a midsize SUV but I'm not exactly sure what vehicles this competes with.

I'm not quite sure I quite understand... You're trying to tell me I'm obessed with something.
I'm not obessed with degrading Toyota products. If you look at my channel, you can see that I don't waste any time trying to get people to stop buying Toyotas, and buy more Hyundais unlike other peol who is obessed with degrading other company's products.
And it's quite interesting to see that a company that has more history in making vehicles (Nissan) is lagging behind a comany that does have have nearly as much experience. Nissan's growth does not compare to Hyundai's growth.
And I do see alot of Toyota vehicles in other dealerships. If you want a more reliable source, I suggest you look at Ebay. Hundreds of people trying to get rid of their Toyotas.

IDK looks alot like the highlander. Or did the highlander design looks like the previous sorentos? I see it looks more bulky and fat and the front kinda looks like toyotas except it doesn't have that awesome signature Toyota symbol.
hyundai's/kia's new 6spd automatics are very good, thats why they get better gas mileage than manual. also their engines are very good too and some of the most reliable out there today. If you want a reliable car that looks good and gets the best gas mileage you can't go wrong with a kia or a hyundai.
Historically manuals get better mpg due to the direct connection between the engine and driveline. Automatics typically have a torque converter and extra weight to deal with, resulting in lower mpg (nothing is free).
Unfortunately, many Americans don't know how to drive a manual.
Thank God we get that one here with Diesel engine, I still cant think about a Medium SUV with Gas engine....doesnt make sense to me.
I dont know why this car is getting compared with the RAV4, damn!, Rav4 was suposed to be a small SUV, like CRV, Forester, Vitara, Tucson, etc, etc.....RAV4 IS NOT a med-size SUV. Just because Toyota cant be specific with their line up, it doesnt mean Rav4 is in the same segment with Sorento, Santa Fe, Tuareg, etc, etc.
Couldn't agree more! They seem to be comparing EVERYTHING to the Rav4! But I think when Toyota went and beefed up the Highlander, they made it technically "full-size" and made it a little difficult for it's original competitors (Santa Fe, Sorento, etc...) to keep up. So, it seems like everything elsejust gets thrown into the "compact" segment with the Rav4. Ugh...what a shame. I think the interior, the engine, and the features of the new Sorento place it among the mid-sizers quite nicely.
All wheel drive is two wheel drive unless the car senses it needs more power to the back wheels. Unless you have a Subaru it always has Four wheels spinning. Four wheel drive is what I have, it is 2wd unless you make it 4x4 high or low.
If I am not wrong they are about the same, but there are some variations. The all wheel drive is the system that the 4 wheels always have power, and the 4 wheel drive normally powers 2 wheels and only give power to the 4 wheels when its needed.

The number are not consistent with what the various magazines report. I think they're not properly disclosing these full numbers, and simply list something like "21/29" and then say that going to V6 only makes you lose 1 mpg. Clearly misleading.
Also, since this is Kia takes full advantage of the fact that post Jan/10, it's allowed to be sold as a 2011, that it gets around official EPA posting.
I just do not trust these numbers. Are there any credible references backup up these numbers?
Another thing I'll need clarification on is the maintenance schedule and costs.
I almost bought a Rondo a few months ago, but after discovering the fact that it uses a timing belt and seeing high maintenance costs, combined with steep depreciation, I decided against it.
I'm hoping that the Sorento does better, for me anyway.

@a1mint uh, those mileage numbers are EPA numbers publicly posted on Kia's website. If they posted anything not legitimate they would be subject to hefty fines.
In my real world testing I found the V6 spot on with its numbers and the 4 cylinder a bit below, but that was with a full load of people and equipment in cold weather.
2011 model years can be used if the car is SOLD in 2010. The Sorento went on sale in January 2010 so 2011 is ok to use.
The magazines say that too. It's just that the fueleconomy(dot)gov website doesn't have this information available, so I can't actually see those numbers from the actual EPA.
But, you're right, it'd make no sense everyone including the EPA label while making numbers.
As for using 2011 this early, which other manufacturers do that? O well.
I'll give the Sorento serious consideration and look forward to test driving one.
In Canada it'll be available over the next few weeks from what I was told.

Google: "2011 Kia Sorento Investigated by Feds for Possible Transmission Failure"
This isn't a joke or prank, i recently bought a Sorento and although the transmission problem hasn't happened to me, i feel like i should let others know what problems may occur to their vehicle. I wish i knew this before i bought it but that is why i'm writing this now. Please read it and research the vehicle. Please.

@MrBallcoozie Seems like an isolated problem. I'm sure yours is safe, sexy-looking vehicle. Occasionally, recalls happen... but they're fixed carefully and quickly. I'm sure it's just some fluke of either misuse/or isolated defect acquired somehow. Don't worry.

kia and hyundai are quite similar to its design and specs..... no doubt they came from korea... our hyundai has a 6L/100 km of consumption of diesel... thats really good

one thing I find strange is that the innovative design of the front of the car
not attached to the rear q is a little outdated.
but the car is sensational!

Zapłaciłem w listopadzie zadatek na to auto.Kia obiecała że zrobi co może abym auto odebrał do końca roku jeszcze z odpisem vat.W grudniu dowiedziałem się że o samochodzie w grudniu mogę zapomnieć.Jeżeli nie zrezygnuję będzie "na pewno" do końca stycznia.W styczniu powiedziano mi że na100% w lutym .A w lutym kiedy czekającego już cztery miesiące klienta, masię pod butem usłyszałem:"Może w kwietniu albo możesz zrezygnować".Samochód to moje narzędzie pracy. Zapamiętam tą lekcję do końca życia.

A couple of years ago I would have laughed if someone told me Kia made a car with a decent interior but i've sat in a a few of these and I have to say the interior is pretty even with the Escape and in my opinion better then the Rav4. The Journeys interior is complete garbage so that was pretty easy to beat.

@naekerb It may but remenber that the sorento is far bigger that the Mitsubichi Outlander sport (asx) and U can improve the mpg in both cars since u can also find them with a diesel (petrol) engine. Freaking awesome, im abaut to get a kia sorento 2.2 Diesel. Atomatic.

I purchased the 2011 Kia Sorento, and could not be happier. I absolutely love my Kia. Plus with the 10Yr 100,000 Mile warranty Kia must really have confidence in their products. I have been very impressed with the vehicle's quality and my decision was between the Chevy Equinox of the Kia Sorento, and I am very happy I decided to go with the Sorento.

This vehicle is nice, but do not let it fool you. This car is built in an area where nearly all of the work force does shoddy, low quality work. They cannot build a decent house. Almost all houses in this area have had major work done over the entire length of their warranty. They built a new addition to my school that needed a new roof, new staircases, new plumbing, new flooring, etc. This car will more than likely, be in the shop the entire time of the warranty. Please consider other cars.

Better then some of the Toyota's and Honda's right now. Kia's using higher quality materials now compared to before. I'd buy this over any Jap. competitor.

Why was he comparing this to the Ford Escape and Toyota RAV4? Those are smaller SUV's that compete with the Kia Sportage, this thing is a midsize SUV but I'm not exactly sure what vehicles this competes with.

Perhaps Toyota should start investing more money on gas pedals. I hear they are quite famous for exhilarating without the driver's intention.
As a consumer, I personally don't care where a company got their technology as long as they have it and it's usable. I won't research how they got it and where they got it, as long as it's a good ride. I'm not sure about an average person but I don't think they reasearch that either.

And it's quite interesting to see that a company that has more history in making vehicles (Nissan) is lagging behind a comany that does have have nearly as much experience. Nissan's growth does not compare to Hyundai's growth.
And I do see alot of Toyota vehicles in other dealerships. If you want a more reliable source, I suggest you look at Ebay. Hundreds of people trying to get rid of their Toyotas.

Not once, in my comment have I ever said Hyundai is better that other car brands but if you ask my opinion, Hyundai has much better value for $. hyundai's/kia's new 6spd automatics are very good, thats why they get better gas mileage than manual. also their engines are very good too and some of the most reliable out there today. If you want a reliable car that looks good and gets the best gas mileage you can't go wrong with a kia or a hyundai.

Historically manuals get better mpg due to the direct connection between the engine and driveline. Automatics typically have a torque converter and extra weight to deal with, resulting in lower mpg (nothing is free).
Unfortunately, many Americans don't know how to drive a manual.

Thank God we get that one here with Diesel engine, I still cant think about a Medium SUV with Gas engine....doesnt make sense to me.
I dont know why this car is getting compared with the RAV4, damn!, Rav4 was suposed to be a small SUV, like CRV, Forester, Vitara, Tucson, etc, etc.....RAV4 IS NOT a med-size SUV. Just because Toyota cant be specific with their line up, it doesnt mean Rav4 is in the same segment with Sorento, Santa Fe, Tuareg, etc, etc.

Couldn't agree more! They seem to be comparing EVERYTHING to the Rav4! But I think when Toyota went and beefed up the Highlander, they made it technically "full-size" and made it a little difficult for it's original competitors (Santa Fe, Sorento, etc...) to keep up. So, it seems like everything elsejust gets thrown into the "compact" segment with the Rav4. Ugh...what a shame. I think the interior, the engine, and the features of the new Sorento place it among the mid-sizers quite nicely.

All wheel drive is two wheel drive unless the car senses it needs more power to the back wheels. Unless you have a Subaru it always has Four wheels spinning. Four wheel drive is what I have, it is 2wd unless you make it 4x4 high or low.

If I am not wrong they are about the same, but there are some variations. The all wheel drive is the system that the 4 wheels always have power, and the 4 wheel drive normally powers 2 wheels and only give power to the 4 wheels when its needed.

All wheel drive is always on. Four wheel drive is on whenever you decide to turn it on.

all wheel drive - 2 wheels spinning normally, the other two wheels spin when the car sense a loss of traction of the 2 driven wheels
four wheel drive - 4 wheels are powered independently and can move at different speeds for high traction
four wheel drive with lock differential - all four wheels spin altogether (used for off-road)

First of all i find it hard that this vechical starts under the price of a Honda crv/ toyota rav4 with a MANUAL so thats saying that most suv shopers do not get a manual so by the time u get a auto your at this price of that crv/etc and also I WOULD NOT DOWN GRADE FROM THE POWER OF A MURANO TO THIS lol. belive it or not this vechical is not the same size as a crv the crv does not have 3rd row with compable room to put grocys in so thats my take. I'm seeing different "EPA" ratings on the various car websites listed, and can't find any official ratings on fueleconomy(dot)gov (the EPA website).
I feel that we're being lied to about mpg.
I simply do not believe that there is only 1 mpg difference between the 4 and 5 cyl versions for one.

@a1mint MPG varies w/engine, transmission and drivetrain.
Manual, 4 cyl FWD = 20/27 mpg city/highway
automatic, 4 cyl fwd = 21/29
auto, 4 cyl AWD = 21/27
auto, v6, fwd = 20/26
auto, V6 AWD = 19/25

The number are not consistent with what the various magazines report. I think they're not properly disclosing these full numbers, and simply list something like "21/29" and then say that going to V6 only makes you lose 1 mpg. Clearly misleading.
Also, since this is Kia takes full advantage of the fact that post Jan/10, it's allowed to be sold as a 2011, that it gets around official EPA posting.
I just do not trust these numbers. Are there any credible references backup up these numbers?

Another thing I'll need clarification on is the maintenance schedule and costs.
I almost bought a Rondo a few months ago, but after discovering the fact that it uses a timing belt and seeing high maintenance costs, combined with steep depreciation, I decided against it.
I'm hoping that the Sorento does better, for me anyway.
First thing, I'm looking for credible mpg numbers...

@a1mint uh, those mileage numbers are EPA numbers publicly posted on Kia's website. If they posted anything not legitimate they would be subject to hefty fines.
In my real world testing I found the V6 spot on with its numbers and the 4 cylinder a bit below, but that was with a full load of people and equipment in cold weather.
2011 model years can be used if the car is SOLD in 2010. The Sorento went on sale in January 2010 so 2011 is ok to use.

The magazines say that too. It's just that the fueleconomy(dot)gov website doesn't have this information available, so I can't actually see those numbers from the actual EPA.
But, you're right, it'd make no sense everyone including the EPA label while making numbers.
As for using 2011 this early, which other manufacturers do that? O well.
I'll give the Sorento serious consideration and look forward to test driving one.
In Canada it'll be available over the next few weeks from what I was told.
