I wish I had a $ for everything I missed. I could pay off the world debt.

  • Thanks SuperEvilbug

Your right for 10M Ohms. The circuit I used in this video is the one in the drawing, minis the ammeter. I have a resistor across the capacitor in this video and it is the 22k. And it is easy to miss because the meter face is in focus but the resistor is not. When I removed the ground lead the meter does not move until I connect it to the 12VDC terminal. I did pause before this connection. The cap is a 470uF@16VDC.

  • Hi Rick, I like your auto ranging analouge meter, what make is it?

  • @Shandybrother

It is a Radio Shack 22-216

  • You always have the best way of explaining things! :D

    ~Cindy! :)

The basics are so very important.

Making the drawings is an interesting process. When I was making them I have an order of use in mined. But when they were all done and the video clips were all done, usually I edit them together in a different order as I did with this video.

    Your Welcome!

  • Good job, Rick...as usual. I can't get over your vid graphics. Cool stuff.

    Regards,

    John

  • Thanks joernone

    Hey John,

I did a lot of experimenting using FreeHand, Photoshop Elements, and Premiere Elements to produce clear HD drawings. Also very efficient files too. The file size for the video is only 76.767Megs. In other formats it would be several Gigs.

    Regards

    Rick

  • Hi Rick, well done, again. I have an old multi-meter in the cupboard, it has part of the amp range terminal blown away, it was given to me by Frank, the guy who tried connecting it across the 250 volt mains supply to see how many amps he could draw. When it blow up in his face I decided it was better not to have the meter if he didn’t know how to use it, the meter still works and I’ll always remember Frank whenever I use the meter. Kind Regards ... Andy

  • Thanks AndyDaviesByTheSea

    Hey Andy,

I just now remembered a friend of mine was testing the resistors in a radio with a Simpson 260 meter. He also thought to check the filaments of the tubes. He was successful in burning out all the tube filament because it was a battery set using 1.5 volt tubes. That was an expensive lesson. Your friend had a very scary lesson and I'm sure he never forgot it either.

    Regards,

    Rick

  • @AllAmericanFiveRadio I’ve just had an interesting experience, Sophie has some hair strengtheners and they failed on second use, when I touched the plates I could feel a buzz, 50Hz, I checked with a digital volt meter from the plates to earth and had over 110V ac. I did the same test with the AVO (2kohm/V ac) and read less than a volt, just shows, difference in input impedance. I didn’t like the fact that I could light a neon off the plates, they’ve gone back to the manufactures. 73's ... Andy

  • @AndyDaviesByTheSea

Eeeyiekssss. Sounds like they would curl rather then strengthen. That is amazing some manufacturer would make something like that today.

  • @AllAmericanFiveRadio Hi, sorry that’s my spell checker kicking in there it should be hair straighteners not strengtheners ... Andy

  • @AndyDaviesByTheSea I made a video of the Remington straighteners lighting the neon as the manufactures weren’t interested when I tried to talk to their technical department but the retailer, Boot’s the Chemist, swapped them for another brand and gave us money back without proof of purchase. One company knows how to win customers the other is learning how to alienate them. Let me know if you’d like to see the video. 73’s ... Andy

  • @AndyDaviesByTheSea

    Hey Andy,

Yes I would like to see the video. I think you sent the question to yourself. I have done that many times.

  • @AndyDaviesByTheSea

I'm Dyslectic, I did not notice.

  • Thank you sir.
