@youngmindedman I felt like she was singing the song to me alone. That's how good she is. And it was an emotional experience. She pours her heart into every song. No star trappings or illusions with Linda. Definitely a "feels like home" person.
Great cover but I can't help but feel like it loses something when she sings it. Her voice is perfect don't get me wrong, but it's missing something Randy's version has... can't quite put my finger on it.
@WeCantAffordThat It might be in the phrasing,...in Randy's version on Faust she puts less space between the words,...and in this version the words are so mechanically spaced, it somehow loses its energy. Randy's version, she really feels it, where here, she seems like she has sung it a few too many times.
Bonnie Raitt's version is undoubtedly the best. So heart wrenchingly emotion, sung with such deep feeling. No-one will ever better Bonnie's version. Prefer it with less instrumental that this version.
I would have a hard time choosing Randy or Linda's version, they are so different and unique, Randy sings with so much feeling but Linda's voice is heart wrenching and haunting, sorry love em both
"Feels Like Home" has a bountiful array of incredible versions all over You Tube, and why not, it's just a really a well written musical composition! But, I always find my self returning to this site because of Linda Ronstadt, it make me feel like I'm coming home! Linda outdid even herself on this, it's just fabulous! Thanks and kudos to catman916 and You Tube, for both the upload and space to put it!
It just always seems to me that no matter how much I love a song by the original artist, Linda Ronstadt just adds an element that makes me love her version. I feel the same way about covers done by Aretha Franklin, Luther Vandross and Patti Labelle.
Linda's version is absolutely beautiful and touches the heart with emotion...especially when you have found that special someone in your life. Neil Diamond has another version which is very good, as well.
If you think this is great you should experience it by Linda in person. I just about melted in my seat. Wasn't expecting all the emotion it pulled out of me. Definitely one of her best.
Oh, what a lovely song! I don't want to get into a 'which version is best' match, but wanted to point any who haven't seen it at the Bonnie Rait version, and the stripped-down Randy-at-the-piano version. Let me know if you're interested and can't find them. The best songs sing themselves.
Thanks for posting this video. I've been asked to play this at a wedding on my violin and its so nice to be able to hear it. Of course I heard it years ago but to be able to hear it fresh. I'm looking forward to playing this.
So many have tried to do this song but, she nails it. Thank Linda your the bomb! Your voice saved my life when I was 16 years old and had attempted suicide. I heard you sing Desperodo and I came out of that state of mind and have not ever looked back.
Of all the versions of this beautiful tune, IMO this is THE ultimate! Thanks to: You Tube for the available space, catman916 for the upload(including some rare accompanying visuals), AND TO RANDY NEWMAN FOR THE COMPOSITION, AND TO LINDA FOR HER LONGEVITY! You have all done quite well! R.O.S.!!!!!!!!
This is from Randy Newman's rock opera Faust. Bonnie Raitt sang it there, and Linda did other songs, some of them heartbreakingly beautiful, but unfortunately not on you tube.
@bootface You are right and I don't know why I said that about Bonnie. She does a great job in the opera too, but this is Linda's all the way. There is something about it that grabs the heart and the throat. I love this song, and have always loved Linda. And I think Faust ought to get produced by somebody. That Randy.....
I noticed on the picture at 2:30 and 4:20 that she's got a diamond on her finger. Is that the one she supposedly got from George Lucas?

Linda sang this to me (and thousands of others) in a Phoenix appearance. It gave me chills. It was even better live if you can imagine that.
