Must have been one of the finest sopranos of all time , a superb voice , beautiful throughout the range , great interpretaion and vocal technique , a joy to listen too . Thank You So Much!!!
What's even more than this vocal tour de force is when you realize she was only 25 here, and that her professional career spanned less than 10 years - she was not even 30 when she retired. In 9 short years she established herself as not just one of the finest Verdi sopranos in her generation, but one of the greatest singers of the century.
Grand! The articulation is impeccable. Strange lack of physical power to sustain the climaxes- which brings us to Callas: everybody might have his own opinion on her legacy and the beauty (or lack of-) in her voice, but it´s a question of Fach.
Listen to this great voice--one of many available to us--and dare try to convince me Callas is even in their league. I get so damn sick of people--including professional atists who should know better--raving how Callas was the greatest. Nonense! True, she had great musicianship and could act beautifully. But the voice was UGLY, save on few occsions. The one thing a voice MUST have is beauty. Callas didn't have it.
@jrtrmish A *true nonsense* is the endless comparison of different singers. Another one is that one's opinion on any singer's voice beauty/ugliness is absolute. And the greatest one is that the beauty of voice is most important. Singing is an art, and art depends on artistry, not on beauty, which is only decorative. BTW: Cerquetti's recording of this aria is great and I really do admire her as a great artist.
i think the same of so many singers. i wish she had given us even 5 more years. who knows though. stress does alot to the voice and if she was as stressed as they say it may have gone south.
Quelle voix souveraine ! :-)))
Listen to the frequencies in the voice - the SPIN and BRILLIANCE which are "NON-EXISTENT" in "ALL" of the prominent hooty, operatic sopranos "TODAY." Cerquetti's singing parallels the Great Elizabeth Rethberg with an Italianate interpretation
Unglaublich schoen! Bravissima!!

Totally re-defining the singing art form, Cerquetti here is saturated with a fervour of life at its most tragical.

Such a majestic, noble, passionate and tragic interpretation! Just as required for this role!

Really sad that vocal problems shortened her career. This was a truly great voice and she was an artist, as well.

YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY CORRECT. Callas could never compete in Cerquetti or Rethberg's league.
