Are the belt test for teenagers and adults harder than the ones for younger kids? Because I can not see a 5,6,7, etc year old being able to perform on the same physical level as an adult or teenager could.
@bjapan96 I know its real late to say this but Shotokan and Kyokushin are Japanese. TKD is Korean. Shotokan is traditional Karate and Kyokushin is a decendent less traditional but a little more effective than Shotokan. And TKD focuses a lot on kick combos and self defense.
@NickThePumpPlaya Self defense and 'fighting' are not about physical strength, it is about mental strength, knowledge and intelligence. Any seasoned karate-ka, kung fu student, ju-jitsu student or student of any other martial art could tell you that. And if any girl could kick your ass it would be a girl with this type of knowledge.
Congratulations! First degree must be the most exciting. I just have brown-black next and then shodan, fist degree black belt. I'm really nervous hahaha. 3 hours of torture for 1st degree hahaha AHHH!!!! Hahahha. Congrats man congrats.
haha i was only 10 when i got my black belt and the test was 5 hours long, your lucky lol! but the feeling is great! especially when your ten. im 14 now though lol
@Lax4LifeGirl37 Wow! Awesome! Are you like a 2nd degree by now or so then? 5 HOURS?! That's insane! Hahaha. What style do you take? I'm going for my brown-black belt in about a month probably, then 6 more months or so and testing for 1st degree black belt! After roughly 5-6 years now I am SO excited! But SO NERVOUS! Hahahaha.
Actually, my sensei left my dojo shortly after I received my balck belt. But he made his own school about 4 years later and now I am at the dojo working towards my second black belt in a new style of karate. And I took chito-ryu. I'm not sure the style I am taking now though, I will have to check with my sensei. Good luck getting your black belt you can do it! :)
@Lax4LifeGirl37 Wow hahha a black in two different styles! That's crazy man! Have you been able to continue the previous style also? If so WOW because I couldn't remember two entire different styles I doubt hahah well the majority of each by black belt. I think that's the point man, martial arts teach you that self-defense and 'fighting' are not about physically strength really that much at all, primarily intelligence and knowledge, same with all else in life.
Congrats man! I just received my ikkyu (first degree brown) about two weeks ago. Not quite black yet, but working on it. I know the dedication and time it takes to achieve such a goal, so good job!
congrats bro i been doing mma for about 2 months and im about to recive my whiteblack belt soo i have a very long road to go but ive already placed 1st and 2nd in kick boxing tournaments and hope 2 1 day fight in the ufc and hopefully recive my black belt one day. But congrats again
hahahaha never im a kung fu / mma fighter for over 3 years and i got a brown belt you will recieve your belt maybe when you are 15 / 16 not in a year hahaha
Congrats, i'm getting my blackbelt this Saturday, and it's about 6 hours long. If you make 3 mistakes you fail and don't get your belt. You fight for about 2 hours non-stop and the intructors pound on you.wish me luck. BTW: it takes about 4 years to get your black belt.
Congrats even though you got your belt like 2 years ago! I got mine on december 15,2007 and it was 2 hours long. I'm turning 14 and got my belt when I was 12. Anyway Good Job!
being a black belt at 12 is the most pointless thing ever. Unless you continue practicing your karate when your body matures, you'll still get your ass beat on the streets.
wow only an hour and a half for your test...i wish mine was that quick i was in stance for that long just for my basics then did half hour of bag work then half hour of sparing against fresh ppl every 5 min, then form for another half hour.
I'll bet your test was something you are very proud of though! I wish I had the time to train hard enough to do those kinds of things. I messed up my ankle, just 8 days before this test. Made everything very difficult. Congrats on your belt as well!
gratz. i thought it would have been much longer are you in kid class? like 5-16 i am and it is 2 hours long but for adults it's 5 hours long but anyway well done!
Mind you, every art is different! My Sa Bum Nim does things a little different than most according to everyone I've encountered who noticed differences. They are usually small things, such as names or, like this situation, belt tieing. But the outcome is similar to most TKD schools. I have since moved on from TKD, and am not sure which direction to pirsue. Thinking Muay Thai sounds like a good direction.
If you count out the time that I took off for school and work, about a year and a half. I obtained it after being enrolled in class for three years though.
kajukenbo black belt tests are about 4 hours plus. This is kid shit
