I love this, brings a completely new whiff to this legendary song. And I dont care what the so called purists say about it. If I like something, I should have the liberty to express it. Interpretations & adaptations are a common thing across world literature. I I think ppl should consider it as a type of freedom of speech. If some people derogate this in the name of liberty, ppl will surely reject it. Have faith in their intellect. Kudos to Neel Dutta for the song.
PEOPLE SHOULD UNDERSTAND THEY ARE MAKING THESE SONGS FOR NEW GENERATION OR NEXT GEN OR PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT IN TOUCH WITH RABINDRA SANGEET ITS FAR BETTER THAN NON-SENSE BENGALI COMMERCIAL MOVIES , THOSE SONGS R BULLSHIT , THIS SONG IS REALLY GOOD , I LOVE IT :) THUMBS UP TO ANJAN DA :)
U know I'm a purist and 99% of the times I'll rebuke such attempts...like the one made in bong connection....but in this case it's different...first of all well sung and music at no point overtakes the singer and most importantly it somehow radates the essence of Rabindranath....no holding back no half measures but artistic...probably credit shd be given to Kabir Suman and Anajan Dutta. Great.
Eta shune Kobi Guru swarga theke neme ashben ;-) ..... Jokes apart....nice rendition..... Nandan Bagchi in drums is awesome as usual...and the singer ....such a fresh tone....nice
beautiful rendition of this great song..!! i think neel is doing an excellent job in experimenting with old classics and giving it a fresh appeal for the youth...!! this is extremely necessary in todays time and age where people are almost forgetting rabindranaths songs... and thru ways as this he is actually bringing the songs forward 2 the club hopping, new generation..! its freaking awsum...! i love it..!! thank u neel..!! and get lost old schoolers u hav no ri8 to comment if u cant appreci8
The problem is that when someone is trying for new rendition he or she can't change the tone, voice, theme, diction of the music in such a way that it becomes inconsistent with the diction, and theme of the lyrics.then the musician is disrespecting his or her audience.becos the mood and diction of the song is melancholic.. and you can say ..come on this is new age music..still composition and arrangements are better(only if we did not consider the lyrics) than "pagla hawa" which was cheesy and cheap
but I want to add something......every type of experimentation should be welcomed...I support this opinion...even It is only allowed now..It should have been allowed long ago....just for an example.(only example... bob dylan's songs have been sung in thousand other ways by his contemporaries and by his predecessors also)...because if a musician can not get good lyrics or he or she want to interpret a song in a different way...then it's ok... but
When I listen to it, it sounds fresh, it's vibrant, its got a very youthful appeal. it's time Tagore songs break barriers of a certain taste. and Neel has done it before and he does it again very successfully.
I did not have any opinion on Kabir Suman. Infact the song starts with a rhythm, then when Suman sings there's just a faint rhythm , more of the guitar and finally the rhythm comes back with Anjan Somlata and Suman together. But that's beside the point. It was the arrangers decision not ours.
unculturedperson@ the song has been excellently pepped up by Neel. If you have problems with someone dancing to Tagore that's completely your personal problem. The point is most of us are so stuck up that we have problems with any new thing. You don't have to like everything that a person does. But don't go on bad mouthing or mud slinging.
haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa........" excellently pepped up" the rose water treatment thanks to your excellent suggestion..... Now It sounds like English! jokes apart you forgot to include the punch line. You bring to mind a quote from Josh Billing hope you will know it my Blunt tong friend which apparently looks sharp. LOL'z
good arrangement. keep experimenting and don't pay too much attention to the traditionalists. rabi thakur wouldn't have liked us to simply get used to "habits". we are free human beings in a free country. and nobody is stopping the traditionalists from singing this song in the old way.
That decision making can either make him or break him...and in this case its a thumbs down to his musical decision, or should I say an'influenced' decision. I would agree that experiment is very much required in today's bengali music but it shd not be at a cost. With such a line up of Amyt,Lou,Nandan & Suman, I feel that hysteric helter skelter of ball dance could have been avoided. Except Lou none can dance :-) By the way what is your interpretation of Amyt's guitar piece in the song?
This song is a good easy listning one in the first section...its peppy, but it does not give me the feel of what this song should sound like. On the other hand in the 'antara' section, when suman steps in,the mood changes instantly. And there you go,the 'song' comes to its real life. Neel is pretty ok,but to become a good or a great composer, he needs to become musically more matured. Either he should not have included Suman in this song at all,or he should make Suman sing the entire song.
wow, this thread is now full of interesting comments..... @Therandon2311 - I would like to understand your perspective on how would it be if 'Layla" or ' Comfortably Numb' is sung in the structure of a Rabindrasangeet composition? I believe your answer would be 'AWEFUL'. And that is why the freedom of 'fusing' music is a very fine art.... listen to Jean luk Ponty or Pat Metheny and you will understand what I'm talking abt.
@bhaskar1970 Firstly if you have read notations or swaralipi then its needless to say that you'd realise that this song has not deviated an inch from the notations. If you think that it has then I'm sorry to say you're sadly mistaken. Secondly the swaralipi of Tagore mentions the notes of the song i.e the tune. There can be 1001 chords that can be put behind those notes. In this case it's simple pop rock feel.
F*** ur rules on ur back ...... who says about rule ..how can you read others mind ..... and in the name of no ruling you create one another pressure like Robi Mafia ..... which is purely conditional. :) lol
Asshole fuck your global English write in the ass locally, ie right in whole and who the hell is leading you by the nose ....... how much cheap you are ,step from nitpicking to correct / incorrect engliriiiii .... when you understand what I say then you show off how much incorrect (grammar ,,, syntax ...... etc etc ) 1/2
2/2 It 's only possible for retried bong like you who usually kick out from his own local collage and free distributing your fucking correction with other( free cost .)
Now I've a gap FREE COST I avoided ' OF' .... Because you can surly point out another mistake ..... Do you ever think about yourself how much pathetic loser you are ..... like veterran (Check the spell for me asshole.... because it's your only fucking duty ) LOL
unculturedperson@ the album which you mentioned is one boring album. Secondly Nachiketa should have sung the songs in his normal way and shouldn't have even tried to sing them classically. Seems like you'r e one Tagore fanatic. Hope you know what fanatics do. Give the young music people their dues. And try and understand the song before commenting.
@TheRandom2311 : the classical bits were sung by rashid khan.
just coz ur taste doesnt match with someone else, u cannot go around calling that person fanatic. And yes i do understand the song, and no, i dont understand the unnecessary peppying up of it.
Neel has extraordinarily arranged this great song. Mt best wishes to him and his entries group of veteran musicians. Most of you guys don't even understand what Amyt Datta has played in this song and why.
I think the problem with you guys is that most of you like sitting there and picking on people who're trying to break rules and trying to do something interesting in this otherwise dead city of ours.
Similarly what Tagore had in mind or why on earth did he write this song or what this song is meant to invoke or how it has to be sung or arranged...nobody has any sole right on that.
I'm sure most of you who've been typing in views belong to the new generation regardless you are 35 or above. And it's sick how dated your thoughts are. No work of art can survive the test of time without being discovered or rediscovered. . Everyday thousands of people see Monalisa at the Louvre and get 1000 different feelings. What Da Vinci thought while painting it hardly matters.
well i have been listening to her music since "ichhe gulo" and to my surprise she keeps on bettering her vocal renditions with every new number she has to offer...and jagorane was no exception...the freshness and uniqueness of her voice is simply awesome...wish she does real grt in her musical career...keep it up!!!

@unculturedperson Nachiketa's Yatra is disgusting and who are you to judge the female singer? Did she sing anything out of Tagore's sur or taal? Rather I feel that Suman lost what he had. Though I am a die hard fan of Suman yet when I heard this I felt Suman can't sing anymore the way he used to.

People are fooling around in the video Hysterically. The sogn was saved by Suman still. It is very important to popularize tagore songs but the question is at what cost? I would only say there are some great licks from Amyt and Suman..... there was no need of doing hybrid ball dance to this song.
