some comments here are just completely wrong. First of all. The AE85 and AE86 Are CHASSIS Code dependeing on the model. Its not the year they produced it.
@Frillar im sure they got real tough clutches to take the abuse. remember this is a toyota. tires is the only thing u need to replace after each race.
what the hell is TOHC?? u mean DOHC?? double over head cam??not twin over head cam...and the AE85 came with the 3AU engine and its also not DOHC...its a SOHC
The spoiler on the hatch is a factory spoiler, whoever said otherwise is retarded. Whoever said a good drift car is based on cut springs and a welded diff.....is retarded as well. Read a book, have a coke and a smile and stfu.
90% of these comments fail hard. Get facts people, Initial D is not a credible resource....it's a cartoon show. It's an AE85 body with a 4AGE engine swap....mystery solved.
@dirtbikemike69 why do u like hondas? They are quick because they are light then the start falling flat on their face around 85 mph. then its just a bunch of noise. I know its not true for all civics but It is pointless to put thousands into a FWD economy car that isnt gonna do anything but break. Plus wheres the fun in driving FWD. Cant do shittys, drift, squirell down the road. nothing. U guys got 2nd gear burnouts with ur ebrake applied. haha
@dirtbikemike69 thats because u cant school me. There is not one honda that i would buy to build up. u guys think vtec is the best thing since sliced bread, when really hondas needed it to maintain midrange torque and help fuel economy. Ive seen one civic that made me smile in my life. It was far from a honda too. Had a dart block and goodies supporting his 700hp. guess what it lost to trans am with half the power by a lot. The guy sold it a week later knowing civics are shit for racing
It`s definitely a AE85 with Susp upgrade and probably engine swap. Look at the rear spoiler, no jap 86 came with black-plastic-bolt-on spoiler like that, and even if it was taken off, it would not have the normal chassis incorporated spoiler, and if we did say it was an ae86, it would be a FWD 86 in the states, and since we already know that that car there is no FWD, this must therefore be a japanese RWD-type AE85 with the abovely suggested mods.
An AE85 is a 1983-1987 toyota automobile that was either a Trueno or a Levin depending on panels. It featured a 3au engine (1.5l) and a more basic suspension set up than the standard AE86. They shared the same chassis and it was easy to swap over a 4age from an AE86 to an AE85 so many AE85s around the world have been converted and upgraded as they are cheaper to buy than AE86s.
@eddy1612 In America, we have the DX model, SR5 model, and GTS model. The DX comes with a 3au, I think, and is a AE85. It also has rear drum brakes. The SR5 has the 4AC engine, and is a AE86 with rear drums. The GTS has four wheel discs as well as the 4-AGE engine.
@eddy1612 like you said the settings were totaly different. an ae85 has a get around type sports car with a low tourqe transmisson. with softer setting with supension and of course the SOHC engine. while the eight-six had a harder supension setting with a rally training gear box (better tourqe/accelleration), but the chassis was different. the 86 was slightly smaller, by 6mm (width) so more narrow and the roof was 10mm shorter. with of corse the DOCH engine. learn somthing more today?
ALL US chassised models a re AE86(84-87).. some 84 smaller engined 4 cyls are AE85 ONLY.. the larger 4 cyl in 1984 was AE86. In Japan, some Apex GTs had the AE87 + AE88 designations, depending on what continental market... At least know what you are talking about(some commenters on this thread) before arguing and seeming uneducated. All are usually classed under the AE86 moniker.. LMAO :P
For the dumbass. AE86 is the chassis model from 85-87 US all the chassis models were AE86. Regardless of hatch or coupe. I Currently have a 1985 coupe "Kouki" or early model. and if you want to count age in Japanese then Hachi-Go 85 would be the year it was produced-NOT THE MODEL!!!
I think theres no way thats a AE85. First of all, they never mention AE Hachi-Go (85) in the video and there is a chance they typo'd that text at 0:25.
And listen to that car, theres no way thats an 85.
@hippofries They had an AE86 in '85 as well. The AE85 refers to the chassis code, not model year. The tail lights are different depending on if its a kouki model or zenki model.
