By reading this you are now under the protection of the Anti-Chain, and from now on all threats, curses and promises made by any chain mail you see, are nullified.
There are more individuals supporting the Anti-Chain than there are supporting any single chain mail, so our power will always be greater.
If you ever try to create a chain mail after having read this, you *will* suffer your OWN punishment.
Having been in food service for almost 4 years and being a manager of a foods department, it is all about liability. If we give food to local pantries, which im all for it, and the people get sick, that makes us liable.
What is the point of this? It's THEIR food, therefore THEIR property, and they can throw it out if they please. This is communist crap. The store I worked at threw tons of perfectly good merchandise away that had been returned-I was told there was a 'liability/insurance' issue involved with donating it all. I know we hate seeing perfectly good food get tossed, but the real life consequences of 'donating' it all make it impossible to do that, ESPECIALLY if its at or past its sell-by date. Sorry.
Here's a news story from an alternate universe: "The evil Walmart corporation is at it again, making poor people sick, by donating expired, potentially harmful food to those in need."
Either way, Walmart is a company that SELLS food If you want it, buy it. If you can't afford it, get on welfare (welfare programs are expanding to ridiculous degrees). Since Walmart would be screwed either way, why should they give something away?
Before you complain about Walmart, look at how YOU live YOUR life.
Walmart supports Communist China Industries why wont they send it to china they still have billions of people living in substandard conditions. Problem is they have thier nose so far up the communist state ass they only think communist way of running here
if they donated it and someone got sick they could sue walmart for selling an out of date product u people think its fucked up to waste it but really there just covering their ass cause someone out there would try it for a get rich quick lawsuit
If Wal Mart are going to give the needy free food, then people are just going to be poor on purpose. Get food for free, while the Wal Mart people work hard for nothing.
i like that it says every other grocery donates to food pantrys its only walmart that doesnt ya fuckin right. and wait one person will get sick because they got out of date food from walmart and the govenment will hold them responsible i guess theyre fucked either way
there is way too much red tape involved and wal-mart is such a large corporation there is bound to be some one out there that wants to sue them and what the hell dose it matter what wal-mart dose with the food the legally own and bought thats like me going in to someone's house and saying don't throw away the food you own donate cuz im telling you too
the reason why companies don't donate food to food banks and throw it out instead is because it is a liability issue the same reason why McDonald's throws out thousands of pounds of food a day it costs too much to donate and if some one got sick it would be there fault and then you have a lawsuit
''supermercados Amigo''this supermarket here in puerto rico throw good food in the trash compactor, that is one reason for i quit this job...wal-mart is like a mafia..
There is a reason those items are thrown in the trash compactor and that is called quality control. If you were to go to a supercenter and buy food off the shelf and go home to find that it had been taped closed or re-stapled. You would automatically question it, and most likely return it and complain. I work for Walmart and yes a lot of food is thrown away. But the consumer in general wouldn't want to eat it if they knew it was damaged or expired. EVERY store does it. NOT just walmart people!!
Is it just me or does anyone else notice that the video isn't from a Walmart? The shopping carts and some of the fixtures have red trim. Walmart does not have red on their carts or red on their fixtures.. last I remember the predominant color is Blue.. plus.. I believe now they donate to the Feeding America food bank program..
I used to work in a Marriott cafeteria. At the end of the day we would throw out huge amounts of prepared and cooked food, that was freshly made. Whole pizza pies, full trays of lasagna, enough for a hundred people. We would have to bag the leftover food we wanted, smuggle it out in the trash, and stash it, for after work to take any home with us. The company would not allow employees to have the food, but would rather throw it out. Ridiculous.
@Verator Not just food, either. Anything that has been returned by a customer, say, a lawnchair, no store wants the risk of being held liable if they donate that item and it breaks when someone sits on it. So, into the compactor it goes!!
walmart ow donates its breads and cakes ( only if they make it into the freezer on the day of the sell by label, if not it stil gets trashed) but i was made to throw away three rotisserie chickens yesterday in my walmart's deli and i was told that i could not do otherwise. we might be donating a bunch of bread but its all canceled out by all of the food we throw away in the deli.
I hate wal-mart as much as the next guy, but this is NOT a story....why not go after the companies that put the dates on the bread too??? They are just trying to keep themselves from getting sued. Anyone ever heard of dumpster diving??? I bet by the next day most of that bread is gone.
it doesn't really go into dumpsters, at least not at the supercenters, it goes into a trash compactor. As you stated there are expiration dates, wal-mart is just covering their ass by throwing away expired food. I like how the news anchor says expired food is safe, there is a sell by date for a reason, because it is potentially NOT safe after that date. I work with wal-mart but dont particularly like the company in general either but they have rules to protect themselves.
i have to agree with Gungrave20's post. Sounds like a great thing to do, but the few no good people out there who would sue walmart ruin it. People cant just say "hey thanks walmart" no, they have to think "hey big company i can sue!!!" sad. very sad
walmart used to reduce price or donate this kind of food until people started brining up lawsuits. Then they stopped doing the practice.
There are people who ask to be given or discounted price for produce that is being written off or is damaged. If people weren't so gung ho on suing i bet walmart would not mind donating food that would be thrown away.
if they are throwing out food that is still good why did my friend recently buy a couple steaks from walmart and when she peeled them apart there was green mold between them...maybe thats how they are going green!!
...Continued. Only a very small percentage of the food placed in claims is legitimate (in my opinion) such as dented cans, etc. Consumers must also take some of the responsibility for the waste as almost all of them choose the perfect package over the slightly damaged one, even though the food inside is fine. I, on the other hand, will even buy "damaged food." Example: I will buy chocolate easter bunnies or candy bars that are in pieces. I mean seriously, what the hell is the difference??
Wal-Mart also throws food away that has slightly damaged outer packaging, example: a cereal box where the flaps are open but the plastic bag is intact, etc. As an overnight stocker in the food dept. I see anywhere from 1/4 to 2 full carts of food taken to the back for "disposal" at the end of each shift. Continued......
Funny that Joanne Emerson requested this. I live in Missouri and our local Wal-mart still throws out sell by date bakery food. As an employee there I have seen the following waste: bakery items, food items in sealed but slightly flawed packaging, tons of pet food(could be donated to the humane society), any left over holiday or seasonal items.(could be donated to a goodwill type store or schools or even nursing homes..) shame on you Wal-mart..
...and every single supermarket in the United States does this same exact fucking thing EVERY SINGLE FUCKING DAY!!! Americans just LOVE to be wasteful...
"...and every single supermarket in the United States does this same exact fucking thing EVERY SINGLE FUCKING DAY!!!" - summer4autumn
Did you watch the entire video?
"Food that reaches the sell-by, or freshness date, is perfectly safe. That's why every other major grocer, both locally and nationally owned, donates it to food pantries." - 2:29 - 2:40
"Americans just LOVE to be wasteful..." - summer4autumn
Are you asserting that American grocers do this, and grocers in other countries do not?
Since Wal-Mart pride sitself being the leader of the pack and being so "benevolent" to the community at large, why don't they set an example and take the lead? Somehow this do not surprise me. BTW, it really ANGERS me to see good food gets thrown away, especially in restuarants. People should take what they couldn't finish home.
If any of you ever have edible food that you have to get rid of for whatever reason don't throw it away give it to a food pantry and if you don't know where one is just give it to a local church and they'll give it to people in need.
Another good video from Wal-Mart Watch. I should add, though, that part of the whole problem of establishments (like restaurants) throwing food away (like leftovers from buffets) often has a lot to do with antiquated public-health laws that prohibit the use of leftovers from even being composted, or used for animal feed(!). Evidently, our government would prefer feed with heavy metals in it (and perhaps worse) going to livestock. Fortunately, much of CA and Oregon have changed their laws.
Walmart lies like crazy...why are folks suprised. As a former (through no choice of my own) meat associate I was told to take the meat out of the boxes in the back room and then bring it to the salesfloor on carts. Why?? So it would give the impression that we are packaging our own meat. This direction was from my co manager and I have gotten removed from my department for not doing what I consider amounts to lying to the customer (among other things).

Of course Walmart wouldn't donate it. Donation means charity and charity is communism.
