@stimpp I just don't like her style of singing. It is very slow and she just sounds like "listen to my beautiful voice." I prefer more of a staccato singer like Joan Jett, Katie Perry, or even Lady Gaga. Rock singers and professionally trained vocalists don't work for me. That's more for Jazz or the Opera. She sounds like a music school diva. Doesn't work for me.

I think her style is rather slow tempo and she doesn't articulate words very clearly. Some people like that. Christina Aguileira is more my style. I'd like to hear Christina do a version of this. She'd blow Tori out of the water.

What I like the most about Tori, is she likes to play in the Flat Keys, just like me! For example, this is in A flat Major, her "God" is in B flat minor, and her "Smells Like Teen Spirit cover is in F minor (like the original). Songs in Sharp Keys, Like E Maj, C# minor, etc. are great and awesome, but whenever I'm noodling around making up shit at a piano, I gravitate towards the Flats.

A cover doesn't necessarily mean that it has to be like the original, be it rock or something else..Tori gave her version of it and she should be credited for that..Other people who have covered this track gave their own style aswell, Tina Arena did a great cover of the song too. Everyone has their different influences :) Music is a form of art..not law.

there are cover's that plain beat the original. For instance I love Nine inch Nails but Cash's cover of hurt blows away the original. I think strange little girl is better than the original. Soundgarden has a shit load of covers that are better than the originals. Overgeneralisations like this a fairly meaningless.

@nancynick225 Probably because it was a 'B-side' to Strange Litle Girl which was pulled from shelves with only a few copies being sold. IIRC, there was a Bowie cover as well on the single. Not sure why it was pulled, this is better than a lot of the covers on the album.
