"McCabe & Mrs. Miller" and "The Unforgiven" are two very similar Westerns, and perhaps the best of their genre. I think you have done a fine job of matching Cohen's music to this clip. But, alas, my heart belongs to "McCabe".
@pedonbio i agree that they're both compelling pictures - but surely 'unforgiven' is much, much harsher - and its sadistic realism doesn't really equate with the romantic, gothic, dreamlike 'mccabe'...despite the sad endings and maladroit details in both.
This is very good. Very damn good. You show good instincts, good understanding of the material. William Munny could have sang this song himself. To match this great song with this great film - it is TRUE! Well done! Do more.
Clint could do Theodore Melbourne Wigle down to a T. Mel never yelled. He just whispered & that was the good side to him. People marvelled at how much I could take in the ways of abuse, "Oh, you don't understand. I've been thru the Mel Wigle program!" After him everything is an aftermath. He taught me the skills of sharp shooter, rope, box, wrestle, play hide & seek injun style & how to get back up on a horse after it throws you, how to remove bullets, fix a broken bone, Winter isn't that bad
Il fallait oser .Bravo !! for such a wonderful song your video is wonderful too.Try to make another one on the song" priests" of leonard Cohen. See you later.
Hi, I just did a wiki and found a few worthy comments. I wasn't aware Julie Christie was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress, for one but it was the music for me, then chemistry,... and OK Warren too...I love this movie it rained a lot and then snowed...ahem
It rained and snowed... and so did the music in a way, so do love and opium in their way, and it has both. I wasn't in love when I saw it, but opiates...
@jazhand Oh good a different way of looking at this movie, I saw a different side when she begged him to sell out or die...but I can see your side too.
Well said, I am not sure why the film Unforgiving with Clint Eastwood was chosen here and not McCabe & Mrs. Miller the 1971 western directed by Robert Altman, but rocanon chose a beautiful song.)
I've always thought of the film as a moving work of art, starting with the opening scene in the tavern which is completely DaVinci's The Last Supper. The entire film is so replete with religious symbolism you have to see it over and over again. You keep seeing more and more.
This is one of the most sad and beautiful songs I've heard, and it matches on of the saddest and most beautiful movies I've ever seen: McCabe and Mrs. Miller. Thank you so much for posting this.
I have to disagree with some of the comments here -- I think this works very well with the scenes from UNFORGIVEN. I am a huge fan of McCabe and Mrs Miller and will always picture scenes from that movie when I hear the song, but this really works (and it happens to be another of my movie favorites as well).
Thanks for the video; it motivated me to do something I've been meaning to do for years, buy a copy of McCabe & Mrs. Miller. Now if I could only find someplace to just lie down in the snow and watch it.
Dear Rocanon- congrats on first attempt- Cohen is my man BUT IT DOESN'T FIT HERE AND MCACABE AND MRS MILLER WERE BASED ON HIS WORK AND I DON'T WANT TO DISCOURAGE BUT NON- SEEMS NOT, PLAGARISM BUT YOU CAN DO BETTER
The song might not fit the actual circumstances of Unforgiven but I don't think it matters, this video is lovely, like a visual poem. It reminded me of how much I love that middle scene and how Muny is as sweet as circumstances will allow - "I reckon if I did want a free one, it'd be with you." Brilliant work.
The music & the movie were absolutely perfect for each other. In my opinion, quite possibly one of the best movies ever. I understand Altman & Beatty both hated the movie; hmmmmmm?!
Yes I did it's just I try to ilustrate the music with images that I think will go with the poem, I just uploaded "sisters of mercy" maybe you want to take a look. Thanks!

McCabe and Mrs Miller was not based on Leonard Cohen's music.
That movie was done before Robert Altman decided to use Cohen's music for the film.
The music does fit the movie's mood. McCabe and Mrs. Miller is a classic.
As for this video, good work.
