  • i had something similar to this happen with my henry....it was a biznach to clear

  • luckily it was only a rimfire and not a centerfire

  • I don't want to be a know it all. But I had a lot of trouble with my .22 LR conversion for my AR then I started using 10W30 full synthetic motor oil to lube my guns and I ran about 250-300 rounds through it consecutively and nary a hiccup. made a big difference. Also I think these run better with a round hammer than a notched hammer. Not sure which your PLum Crazy is running just some food for thought. Interesting vid btw.

  • @nowthisis2stupid Nvrmind lol I saw the round hammer, I posted too soon. But maybe try the full syn 10w30, worked for me.

  • Thanks for posting this video!

  • that shit happened to me when i younger and my dad didn't let me shoot his guns for years because he thought it was my fault

  • I don't think it had anything to do with the gun, or the ammo... I believe a ninja tried to sabotaged you!

  • uhh... sabotage ...stupid phone!

  • Spyderco Manix 2 lightweight to the rescue!

  • I've never seen that happen before. Glad you were able to catch that on film and demonstrate how to deal with it. Was that the new BD-1 Manix 2 you were digging around in your gun with? Ouch! Dude, get out a multi-tool next time! LOL.

  • @TheLateBoyScout

LOL yup it's a lightweight manix2 I really like it but it's a work knife for me

  • CCI Blazer can be had so cheap (especially online), no one should waste their time/money on Thunderbolts.

  • this happened to me with a Ruger mark II .22 and the same thing happened. it double loaded the chamber with a lot of smake and it blew the back out. This happened with federal loose ammo.

  • @GunWebsites------ hey man i was just wondering about the barrel length on that T-22 upper and the muzzle device? Looks kinna short like a 14.5" or somthing? Thanks in advance bro!

  • I had a round get stuck in the barrel of a .22 revolver with this same ammo, I left the rest i had at the gun range and would never by Remington .22lr ever again.

  • i've seen some deringers blow up while at my local gun range. Isn't too pretty

  • If this happened with a much more powerful cartridge, could the gun actually blow, or do you think it would be similar to this?

  • @binyamj

yes, very dangerous in larger guns

  • @binyamj I happen to know first hand that in the case of converted WW2 9mm SMGs (Finnish M31 to be exact) this problem is not deadly nor is it likely to harm the gun, but in a full powered rifle it certainly would be dangerous.

  • Just get some CCI Blazer or Federal bulk next time, dude haha.

  • Had that happen with a steel cased 9mm in my Glock a few weeks ago. First time I've ever seen it happen. Of course the Glock was unharmed. Thanks for the vid!

  • looks like your running it DRY with that 22LR its so dirty that you need 2x the lube/Oil

  • I'd never even heard of this happening before except in cases where the wrong ammunition was used. But hey, Murphy strikes again.

  • Is an RF AR gas or blowback?

  • Same thing happened to me this past summer with an M&P15-22 and Federal from a 525-pack. Luckily I had eyes on, so when something (still not sure what) came out of the chamber, it just glanced off. Oddest thing I've ever experienced

  • I heard just yesterday that Fedreal Bulk pack was having a problem like this

  • Remington has always been a " use at your own risk " kind of ammo. the golden bullets are of much better quality and i have fired several thousand rounds of that stuff over the years and never had a problem. the thunderbolt line of ammo should stop being manufactured! it's crap! has been for as long as i can remember.

  • idk why you would buy a 22lr anyway.. ill stick to my 556

  • I didn't catch it on camera. It definitely make a distinctive POP and smoke poured out of the receiver. I think in this case it went off from the bolt just slamming against it.

  • Any one who use's remington 22, must not like there firearm.

  • 3:57 I noticed the dimple made by the firing pin. I'm wondering how much dry firing was done to cause this rim fire pin dimple?

  • @MASTERNCS

yea, there is a pretty big dent there

  • @MASTERNCS someone else caught that chamber ding earlier, I wonder why gunwebsites has not answered or said anything about it? It would be a good test to have the ding removed and try the gun again.

  • @IFXGUNS Very good and valid point. I was hoping that the video would have mentioned that he does not. the dimple seems pretty pronounced, this is why dry firing rim fire gun is a big NO NO. Here is video proof that it is not okay to dry fire what so ever on a rim fire action.

  • That happened me with my .22 Mag in my CZ452 I put it down to bad ammo i was wearing my shooting glasses thankfully cause my face got the whole blow back of the round.

    Thanks for sharing

  • on a fieldshoot (its a competition in Sweden), my friend have a Benelli and he shot 4 rounds and suddenly he had a case stuck in the slide, upside down, that still haven't been fired, everyone was confused

    Greetings from Sweden!

  • my first rifle i bought S&W MP15-22 did that to me first day i shot it, down at marksmen, the casing actually cut slightly into the lower reciever near the extraction port because its made of polymer, so i have this nice little gouge

  • Damn!

  • Thanks for sharing!!! It's good to share successes and failures so we all learn from the experience.

  • Dude thats nuts!

Glad there was no serious damage tho.....

  • i actually had a 22lr that fired but did not exit the barrel....

  • @1gbpackfan1

those are deff more of a pain to deal with

  • that is why i never have nor ever will use thunderbolts in any of my .22s

    personally i use blazers

  • No one killed......Pahleeeese!

  • is that the famous plum crazy lower again?

  • @therealcarbine15

yup, looks like this 22 upper will find a home on it

  • ★★★★★

  • Revolver ammo explodes, no one killed, one injured

  • Thunderbolt is so poor ammo, that I find it amazing that some dares to sell it with Remington brand.

  • Can you please explain why you feel the need to emphasize the fact that "no one was killed"? It seems like you're being sarcastic but theres no point in speculating on what your motives may be.

  • @The10shooter to tell teh viewers they are all safe?

  • @The10shooter Because if you have a video titled "ammo explodes" then a ton of people will click on it expecting to see someone get blown up and when they don't they will say how stupid this video is and will give it a thumbs down and all that BS.

  • @huntwithairguns

good point, didn't think of it like that, but you do have a point

  • @The10shooter

    read up on Samuel Clemens

  • I've had 22lr ammo exlpode in a bolt action before. I can say it's not good for the extractors.

  • Good video. It was interesting & worth knowing about. Especially, for someone that shoots a lot or is just starting out.

  • whats a good reloading machine?

  • Remington makes fucking shite rimfire ammo.

  • @vnlk65n So I'm not alone I discovered...

  • It's good to see that no one was hurt...

  • @Hiluxtaco

    lol

  • Well,...won't be buying one of those

  • @st2hallock Not the guns fault, it can happen to basically any gun with basically any ammo.

  • @Kylef7735

    well said, thanks

  • @st2hallock It's not the guns fault whatsoever if that is what you are getting at.

  • @st2hallock

    a .22 ?

  • except mine split into 2 seperate pieces

  • Had one of these happen to me on the fifteenth wish I had seen this before that day

  • this happened to me while shooting fiocci 40 grain lsp in my marlin model 60

  • I've had the same thing happen a couple of times already. It's made me more cautious as to who is to my right, etc. One time a piece of the ruptured case got stuck underneath the extractor, and it caused intermittent problems until I found it. I really don't know why some of the rounds don't chamber all the way. I suspected lube from the lead bullets but even one of those Hoppe's tornado brushes didn't solve the problem.

  • Better .22lr than 5.56 nato :D

  • my bro complanes when I'm cleening my rifle so I showed him this

  • That Thunderbolt "stuff" is good for throwing in the campfire just about the time everyone is pretty toasted! Right Joey?

  • If I had a new firearm that discharged out of battery I wouldn't even try to fire it again, it would go straight back to the manufacturer.

  • @Snipe4261

thats like taking a car back for a flat tire.. only if it ALWAYS did this would I expect someone else to worry about it

  • Thankfully no one was injured. With the .22 Thunderbold ammunition, it really doesn't surprise me. Thunderbolt ammo is pretty low-quality .22 ammo. I've heard great things about the Colt & S&W MP 15-22 rifles, but never heard of the one in this video. Quality control among .22 ammunition is pretty poor in general & it's the dirtiest ammo on the market. So finding a gun that can cycle it reliably is hard. The Ruger 10/22 is the best one I've ever found. Thank you for the review!

  • How do u dispose of rounds that arent able to be fired, but are still live? Like the one that got bent after the ruptured case

  • @CarlPetaflop im not sure about large cases but stuff like 22 and 223 or 556 you can use pliers to rip the bullet out and remove the powder .

  • @CarlPetaflop

The range where we shoot will take it.. then every so often they take it to a nearby sheriff's range and they have a way to burn it all safely

  • Continued from previous.... My S&W M&P15-22 carbine has still never had a malfunction of any sort in thousands of rounds. I'm positive it will eventually, as most .22 guns will have some sort of malfunctions every now and again, but as long as I keep it really wet (especially when I'm shooting suppressed), it's good to go.

  • Headspace is tight. Send the upper back.

  • Also had this happen to me once with a friend's Spikes Tactical dedicated .22 upper. It was also really dirty already, so it blew back quite a bit of debris into my face and on my left forearm. It was a GREAT EXAMPLE of why you should always wear eye protection!! Anyway, it seems to me a lot of these conversion kits and dedicated uppers do this shit quite often. My S&W M&P15-22 carbine

  • @RetreatHell

great point about eye pro, never know when something like this is going to happen

this is my first dedicated upper, I like the idea of not packing lead and junk into the gas tube of the BCM with the conversion bolt though.. I am sure this was just the old ammos fault

  • send that round back to the manufacturer ,especially if your gun got damaged ,file a product liability claim against there insurance carrier if your carrier got messed up?,the least they can do is give you a few cases of ammo for bitching

  • I think the barrel had too much bulid up from the shitty remington thunders causing the case to not go through

  • thank god it was just a 22lr AND NOT A BIG ROUND

  • @daewooparts

exactly, then I would be much more worried about the gun too

  • so accurate

  • I had something similar happen with a crappy Colt .22 conversion bolt in my Bushmaster. The extractor crushed and pierced the rim of the case as it was loading it into battery and peppered my arm and hand with burning powder. Didn't hurt me but did blow one of the extractors off of that bolt. I hated that conversion kit. $250 junk.

  • @jboritzki

sucks that just a .22 would damage the conversion.. what brand was it?

  • @GunWebsites My conversion was a Colt and the ammo was Remington Thunderbolts.

It just blew one of the extractors off. It could be fixed if I could find parts for it.

  • Thanks for showing this, good no one was hurt!

  • I've never had anything like that happen to me haha even after burning a box and a half of .22s... But that might be cause I use the Sig552s haha

  • @LastToFail It's not a malfunction of the gun, it's a malfuntction of the ammo...

  • @WeAreTwoDoorsDown he says "the bullet wasnt seated properly..." and doesnt the action seats the bullet... ergo wouldnt the action be at fault? I've had problems when a few, out of box, were somewhat sat crooked but that was in rugers and its mainly just in one box. not to mention ive used about 20 or so boxes and one had one box with a few bad seating rounds but that again was in a ruger.. and i dont just use remmington...

  • Glad no one was hurt & that the weapon was ok. Thanks for the videos!

    Peace

  • Glad no one was hurt and the rifle was ok. Cool to catch on video, thanks.

  • that has happend to me alot and it still does with my savage model 64 and it blows up every time u shoot and some time the whole back of the case blows off and it throws powder on your face

  • A fwe years ago I bought a brick of remington 22 a few years back out of the 1st box of fifty I had 10 duds.I ended up throwing that crap away!

  • nice

  • I also have an upper from TactSol. It did the exact same thing except mine continued to do it with various types of ammo. I contacted TacSol, talked to Colt and he was VERY helpful in getting it fixed. I sent it to him and he put a new bolt in it, polished the feedramp and did a few other things. Since getting it back I've put 700+ rounds through it without an issue. Runs Like a champ! Mistakes happen and they made it right! They also earned a customer for life!

I suggest giving them a call.

  • glad it wasnt a .308 you were testing...or sumn like that

  • glad you guys are ok!

  • Had the samething to happen to me with my mp 15 22. I was using remington golden bullet. It destroyed my bolt carrier. The ejector blew off and hit my safty glasses.

  • That's why you don't shoot Remington 22lr ammo. This is not uncommon with that crap.

  • What kinda tri-pod are you using there?

  • @lenardXD45

we use plain old average (very cheap) tripods

  • of course no one was killed its a 22.when we were kids we use to put .22 on top of concrete and hit the back end of them with a hammer the brass would stay right there under the hammer and the lead would go where it was pointed at.we did these hundreds of times.some of the dumb stuff we did as kids amazing we made it to adulthood.

  • I use the CMMG converstion kit. Never had any issues after thousands of Winchester 333's.

  • Thanks for taking the time to talk about malfunctions like this. I was considering getting a CMMG conversion for my M&P 15x and I had some concerns about what kind of ammo to use and such. Although this video doesn't really pertain to those topics I can probably recognize those types of malfunctions properly. Thanks guys!

  • @fighting17chicago

Cool, I figured too many videos focus on the fun stuff when things work perfectly.

Glad it was worth watching.. can never tell, thanks for the feedback

  • @Zalmai702 Some revolvers that have a case rupture will sometimes blast the cylinder apart and take the top of the gun off. Just imagine that with a 7.62 or .50 doing that.

Just go online and look for pictures of case ruptures in different guns. Some case ruptures on bigger guns could very, very easily kill you.

  • @Arelak Those are not examples of case rupture, those are blown up guns caused by too much pressure, most likely caused by a barrel obstruction or overloaded ammunition or sometimes both.

This video is showing what happens when a 22lr case lets go because it was set off without being completely in the barrel.

  • @CCW1911 They are examples. Go look them up. Also, go read what I was responding too before randomly commenting because I was expanding on someones question and the answer.

Again you are wrong on all counts, it DOES happen and I have seen it where the side of a case blew out a .357 revolver and blew the cylinder and top of the gun off. Bad cases or unseated ones can be deadly.

Before you comment again go look it up before randomly commenting.

    Arelak OUT.

  • @Arelak If you are stating that revolvers with the top straps blown out are examples of case failure you just don't understand how firearms work. Guns do blow up but when that sort of blow up occurs it's not case failure, Again, those are examples of more pressure than the firearm can handle. Most commonly caused by a bore blockage or over charged ammo or both. The case is not designed to hold the pressure, it can't, which is why they let go when fired out of battery. Out you are.

  • @CCW1911 Kid go look it up before commenting. A case rupturing in an enclosed space such as a cylinder with nowhere to go expands OUTWARD causing rupturing and explosion as the gasses seek to expand. The metal expands giving way for more gas to expand and you get your explosion. So go look it up before wildly commenting. Case ruptures CAN and WILL blow up a gun especially when you get into higher calibers LIKE I SAID CHILD.

So child please go look it up.

    Arelak OUT.

  • @Arelak Me a child? LMAO that's funny you have no idea. I'll try to educate you if you're able to learn. Case rupture can cause damage to a gun especially with high pressure rounds. A case blows out in a Glock will blow the mag out but won't damage the frame and slide unless it's a overloaded round. Top strap on revolver peeled back thats not a case failure. I'm very familar with all these cases, I've been gunsmithing for 40 years so calling me a kid is as stupid as calling OUT.

  • I've had this happen to me in an AR .22lr conversion, with Remington Golden bullet ammo. The brass didn't burst but it ballooned out like that at the base. I stay away from all Rem .22lr ammo now, i get lots of FTF with it anyway. Crazy you got it on camera. Thanks for sharing.

  • My leg!

  • 22 thunderbolt ammo is useless. I have never had anything good to say about that ammo and it isn't surpriseing to me that that happened when using it, In my guns one out of every 5 is a misfire and the groping on then is almost non existent. That and it is one of the most dirty rounds i have ever used. I use cci stingers and couldn't be happier with them. no jams, no misfires, less dirty, and they have the best accuracy for a 22 shell I have ever come across

  • interesting, good vid

  • Nice video of a ruptured case

  • @weaponeer

if only we had your high speed camera pointed at it at the time !!

  • I like these kind of vids, only because it give someone like me that chance to see more experienced shooters handle a situation with their firearms. Thanks for sharing the info and most of all I'm thankful you and the team are o.k. as well.

  • @enriquesonora1500

cool, thanks.. I just watched a bio of Samuel Clemens.. so the title of this video was a nod to him and his writing style

  • doesn't look like the bolt is closing all the way. do they make a heavyer spring?

  • @GozonTheGonsarian

it's almost new still, I think its prob just dirty

  • i've found thunderbolt to be very inconsistent ammo. but not very hot must have been a weak case. never seen 1 rupture.

  • I had that happen to me with a 5.56.

The blast hit my face and the magazine was completey blown out and ruined.

No injury, but it scared the crap out of me.

  • Thats scary man.....This would suck for something of an even bigger caliber.

  • Can that happen in a bolt action? for example a mosin nagant?

  • @MarkDany7 The worst I've seen is a split case neck which requires some creative cursing to extract the damaged casing. Thats not to say there HASN'T been catastrophic failure of a mosin before, but I would say its not common

  • @MarkDany7 the only way a case could rupture out the side is from not being seated in the chamber which looks like what happened here. no chance on a bolt action with a positive lock. the breech area would be the last place to explode on a bolt action, the barrel would go first but only if there was an obstruction.

  • @MarkDany7 It would be very difficult to make this happen with a centerfire bolt gun. For this to happen the round is not chambered fully and something strikes the primer hard enough to set it off.

  • @MarkDany7

not really, most wont fire without the bolt closed

  • THE .22lr AK47 NEVER JAMS!

  • I recently blew up my saiga 308. had some barrel work done i guess when the gunsmith re-pinned the barrel he screwed up the head space.

  • @cbr6864

dang, that would piss me off (assuming I lived through it)

  • Damn, Remington disliked this with a quickness... or was it Tactical Solutions?

  • 22 thunderbolt is really dirty ammo. I got it once and will never get it again.

  • Wow, that is a bit of an eye opener. Thanks for the information.

  • I got my wife a GSG3 and it will do that shit all day if you use cheap 22s

  • Damn, I just bought a few 50 round boxes of this ammo from walmart a couple days ago cause it was like $1.50 a box. I dont have any experience shooting this ammo but hopoefully this doesnt happen to me in my mp15-22!

  • @yborzenko It can happen with any brand of rimfire ammo. This is why you always wear eye protection. Good thing is the 22lr is not very powerful but I do have a piece of brass in my thumb from a High Standard pistol out of battery incident.

  • had this happen to me on my FRANCHI i12 shotgun. Destroyed the entire receiver of the gun and would have blinded me if I wasn't wearing safety glasses and got some power burns on my check.

  • Remington Thunderbolt .22lr ammo is some of the worst .22 ammo I've ever fired dealt with.

  • That is classified as a OOB, or firing out of battery...

  • The same thing happened to me, and nobody gave a damn...

  • Interesting, I have never had that happen?

  • Whoah, scary! Good data point.

  • Always the Remington ammo it seems. I had an exact-same situation happen on our GSG AK .22 ammo-test video. The case looked like a twin to yours.

  • @taofledermaus There is no brand of 22lr ammo that wouldn't let go if it is fired with out being fully chambered so in that respect it is not the fault of the Remington ammo.

  • @CCW1911 which brings my point up. on auto fire weapons, there is no indicator that the bolt is closed. If the bolt is not fully closed wouldn't that keep the trigger from working? Well this video shows it will. So, i guess that is what the forward assist is for. But how realistic is it to push after every round. I guess this is the danger you run when using a semi auto. Let me know what you think.

  • @Homehous Modern firearms will not fire if the bolt is very far out of battery, if varies from design to design how far the bolt can be out. 22 rimfire cases are thin and will blow out unless fully supported. Sometimes the round is fired when it fails to feed and a sharp edge on the bolt strikes the rim hard enough to set it off. It is not realistic to push the bolt home every round on a semi auto. Rimfire machine guns are very susceptible to out of battery firing.

  • @Homehous

ehh.. you are mixing too many things up a bit.. but in general you are right.. this is why 'bump firing' can be dangerous

  • @CCW1911 I wouldn't say that. The bullet-fit to the case of the Remington is sloppy. The bullet actually wobbles around. Federals, even their bulk pack, has a very tight fit and they are much cleaner overall. A sloppy, dirtier round is more likely to jam up.

  • @taofledermaus

I didn't see that one, did you get it on film in slow mo?

  • Good Video

  • huh? what happend???

  • Even though you saw a hit on the berm with the bolt out it would have been an excelent time to check the barrel just to be sure.

I can see a fairly large dent in the edge of the chamber at 12 o'clock which is usually caused by dryfiring. The firing pins on some rimfire guns are long enough to strike the chamber edge and those should not be dryfired. This dent can cause feeding problems which in turn can cause firing out of battery. That dent should be removed and the rifle tested again.

  • @CCW1911 I agree with all your points good catch on the chamber ding. I would like to hear what gunwebsites has to say about the ding in the chamber.

  • Good thing it did not turn into a squib! Nice video!

  • @Zalmai702

you bet, it can be really dangerous

  • @Zalmai702 it could theoretically blow YOU apart if it's a big enough round and this happens

  • Did you run something (a patch) down through the bore as well, to be certain no brass or debris were obstructing the next shot? (You didn't show that, so just wondering.)

  • @prayfortruejustice

nope, just a visual inspection.. didn't look like much of the case was missing.. but you make a good point

  • myy shotgun did this before

  • Dude !!! Still good thing you guys were all fine.

  • Yep, you sure are the "first" nincompoop.

  • I don't understand this first, second thingie, why do you say that?

  • last
