Why do you doubt this? The technology to do this is quite old, and is both harmless and easy to do (if you got a bit of tech know-how). I've had it done myself when I was in rehabilitation after suffering repeated dislocated shoulders. They put little electrodes on you, and it triggers your muscles to twitch.
