I was going to watch a video from my subscriptions and this came up as an ad before the video begam, and usually I skip the ads but this one really reeled me in from the beginning! It was fun to watch and very educational. What a great way to spread a serious message. :)
i'm now trying to find natural make up which isn't easy, but my foundation, mascara and lipgloss are natural. It's just my eyeshadows and blushes which aren't so great but I wear a primer so they're not in complete contact with my skin.
People need to start reading the ingredients list and researching the names of things you can't pronounce. I'm almost an all around cruelty free girl (brands like L'oreal, rimmel, maybelline) all test on animals. & this Proctor & Gamble brand is the lord of them all (& search online for all the crap they own, like basically all of it)
@BarbieHasASecret it's not a matter of dead & writhing on the floor because of poisoning. This ad is just bringing awareness of the effects by prolonged exposure to some of these chemicals. Some companies are much better than others. Some women have died because of the ingredients screwing around with their hormone levels and then they find out they have breast cancer.
@TheHairosaurus actually no i used to hate makeup but once my friend started putting it on me then i kinda did it for fum and noticed it made me look better i got addiacted i dont know if youre a guy or not but it can get really addictive but its better if you use natural products that are good for skin
@khat31able I'm a girl, and yeah I wear a little make-up.
I mean I usually wear some mascara, sometimes a little pencil eyeliner.
And I know how addicting it can be. I know how some girls find themselves prettier with it on. And it can make them look prettier, but I also think people are beautiful without make-up too.
Honestly I could go on for ages about this :P It just frustrates me how society and the media tears people down and makes them feel the need to buy make up n stuff
I know advertising on here is frowned upon but i found a helpful website about toxic chemicals in your products! smartgirlconsulting(dhot)com/2010/01/10-toxic-ingredients-to-avoid/
I found a shampoo that claims to be 'healthy', live clean (baby) tearless shampoo & wash that claims to be plant derived, with certified organic botanicals, sls/sulfate free, petroleum free, pure vegan, never tested on animals, biodegradable ingredients, hypoallergenic and ped tested. Only thing I didnt like was that its scented. Anyone know of any products like this i dont have to order online?
Wow, haven't seen a consumer advocate ad like this since those message for concerned children's advertisers. Apparently one particular cosmetic chemical was found in all breast cancer patients.
This is absolute garbage, scare-mongering. Even an apple contains "cancer causing chemicals" - question is how much? Its the dose which makes the poison.
Did they really just say there's lead in lipstick? Way to twist the facts to suit your cause! Here's the facts: 31 red lipsticks from different brands were tested. A very minute amount of lead was found, so small it was barely even worth mentioning. RED was the only shade tested. It's quite possible that the dye creating the red hue has trace amounts of lead. Sure, the government is dumb, but if it was gonna kill people, they'd have to ban it because if you're dead, you can't re-elect, right?
Ummm, does it seem a little strange to anyone else that the game show host and his assistant are both wearing such heavy makeup, given the message they're trying to send?
Awesome. Now do one for fruits and vegetables, fish, chicken, beef, milk, laundry products, plastics, dental fillings, building supplies, carpets, CFL bulbs.... aaaaand pretty much everything else we come in contact with on a daily basis these days. Yeah, we're pretty much boned.
It's about time they make fact an issue to talk about! And make all general public aware that you can't trust these brands just because Drew Barrymore is advertising it and making it so appealing to rub lead on your lips and parabens and other cancer causing ingredients all over your body!
Do you understand the inherent sexism contained in this video? Are men's beauty products any less toxic? One of the failure of the environmental movement has been to understand and integrate the social into the ecological and economic imperatives.
@AnnDaleRRU Thanks for your comment. The PSA is intended to raise awareness of just one aspect of a very complex issue, in a way that can be easily digested and shared. But you're right: the need to get toxins out of personal care products affects everyone! We campaign for stricter regulations on toxic chemicals in all consumer goods, including personal care products for men + women alike (toothpaste, shampoo, etc). Check out justbeautiful.ca for resources and tools to take action.
@AnnDaleRRU Although, women use far more products then men. According to the book There's Lead in Your Lipstick, the average woman slathers herself with over 127 different chemicals every morning. The reality is, women are getting the short end of the stick because of the policies surrounding chemicals in cosmetics and other products. I think the video is actually TRYING to point out how unfair this is for women.
The EWG's Cosmetics Data base has over 69,000 products-a great resource to check personal care products. It tells you what chemicals are in the products, what might be dangerous, and best-can tell you if there are safer products available! It lists not just cosmetics, but products for everyone including babies like shampoo-did you know some shampoos have formaldehyde? It's for dead people! I don't want my baby playing in a tub with formaldehyde!
I wear makeup every day, but it's 100 % natural. There are many wonderful all natural cosmetic lines out there. I use Afterglow cosmetics on my face, burt's bees on my lips among others.
Everyone should know there ARE healthy choices available as an alternative to the toxic products. Check out the list of Pledge companies who are committed to manufacturing safe skin care. environmentaldefence.ca/campaigns/just-beautiful/resources/companies
