  • This is....from prelims. I can tell because I remember the hit not TOTALLY lining up when the drums fall out during our prelims performance...but I remember it feeling totally amazing and just right at finals.

  • Most musical snare ballad part I've ever heard...

  • Fantastic ballad from the Cadets, one of my favourites, and was at finals that year to see them crown world champions. The best drum line you will ever see!

  • played this song sophomore year in highschool and it gives me goose bumps to listen too the drum break is the best in the world !!!!!! and our drum line did it.. A MAZE ING

  • I'm in the Madisonville North Hopkins Marching Maroons and this song is the ballad in our show this year!

  • I'm from Buhler High School, and we are doing this this year as one of our songs! I LOVE this movement!

  • 2:13 thats crazy ass listening environment. that had to be so hard to get to line up..

  • This is the tastiest way I have heard battery incorporated into a ballad, one of my all time favorite ballads of DCI

  • the best ballad i have ever heard from The Cadets

  • couldn't hear the crazy mello part

  • We marched this last year. We flipped the solos at the end and went with mello first and then trumpet. This version is absolutely amazing compared to ours though!

  • @JackSparrow2600 haha sid...

  • That snare entrance is the coolest goddamn thing.

  • that mello player at the end teaches at my school

  • @brutalmilkdud haha braggin on Mr.Cotter.....

  • I just finished watching Dancer In The Dark... the ending is so sad then this song starts playing and have balling in tears...

  • Best ballad of all time.

  • @flugel76

I have every finals show recording from like '76

until now. I listen to probably two or three shows

from before 2000, because I don't like how

they sound. G bugles sound like ass.

Old pits sound like circus instruments.

Old drums have easy books (usually)

and i don't like the sound. Guess what-

    drum corps has moved on.

  • @flugel76

I'm saying it's awesome, and this is the first

show I saw in high school, and what got

me to march drum corps in the first place.

    I think it's just fine.

  • @flugel76

Prolly time to get some hearing aids. This iais a great ballad, no matter what you say.

  • I <3 this SOOOO much!

  • i'm tellin you, he's changing his style now

to give you an idea, their opener for the coming season is Procession of the Nobles

  • i agree the talking is retarded

    but george is stopping that

i know what their show is this year and its no talking

    its pretty sweet and hard

hes going back to the hard core cadets from back in the day

  • you continue to show how retarded you are

  • well then idk what your thinking dude, cadets have been in finals ever single year for at least the past decade

and if you don't like our band and what they do then idk if you can call yourself a so called musician

you can say whatever you want about george hopkins but he is running the most successful drum corps ever right now

how about you think before you try to be a douche over youtube

    god thats pathetic

  • cry about it?

  • Take another look at the video and keep your eye on the colorguard. Some of the most amazing and difficult work you will ever see.

  • this may not be in the video. But in the full performance, there's a Baritone solo. Really beautiful, i wonder if anyone would know where i could sheet music for that..........

  • my hs band had this as our ballad

george hopkins judged us and he said was blown away

    same arrangement including drumline parts

    i loved it soo much

    best ballad known to man

  • @klutchsicles yes indeed. im sure your drum line pulled off the parts too........hahaha

  • you know its tyler right?

  • @klutchsicles yea haha

  • 99.15

  • I thought this sounded familiar xD

  • Such a beautiful piece that the Cadets blew away with. Kudos to every member (and staff) that marched (or teached) that year.

  • ahhhh i love this song

  • i love this ballad.. it sounds like Bjork's new world. such an amazing arrangement. GO JULIAN, JOE AND JUAN. (Contra, mello, and Trumpet who marched that year... plus caption head and high brass techs)

  • wow the mellophone (im guessing?) at the end was absolutely amazing

  • yea that was a mellophone and he is on staff at my high school he is a excellent brass instructor

  • @tacos931s he is my instructor at my high school.

  • Hey i our marching band has been searching for a month for a ballad transition for our show and we fould this and its absolutly perfect. does anyone know any way to get our hands on a arrangement?

  • Jay Bocook was the arranger. Teaches at Furman University, start there

  • @mikedimsu he writes our music. i go to byrnes

  • This was my highschools ballad in 2008 only well....... we sucked.... our synth somehow melted on the inside........

  • Electronic instruments+Marching Band= EPIC FAILURE. Unless it was marched at one time, dont use it!

  • the thing is we did really well with it til finals.

  • Not trying to advertise for the record... check out Hagerstown State Fair 2008. We do Dancer In The Dark as our ballad but its nothing compared to this.

  • except that now its a requirement of DCI to have that balance

  • @ernieloses07 Hey I'm anti technology too! I don't use email because if my grandparents didn't do it, why should I?

  • My favorite ballad, along with phantom 06

  • I liked Crowns "Clair de Lune" in 08

  • Dude Phantom '06 ballad = epic, I wish they would have won that year, LOVED that show musically

  • any place where we can hear it?

  • im a percussionist, so idk, does it actually mean anything to put a note in front of the instrument? like Bb horns ect.?

  • the most amazing ballad ever. so the title is " new world" by who???

  • It's by Bjork. From the movie "Dancer in the Dark." There's the sung version, called "New World" and a brass ensemble version played at the beginning of the movie called "Overture." Both are beautiful. As is this version.

  • just absolutely gorgeous

  • i love how at 1:40 the snares adding in... while ripping notes

  • i love this song especially when the cadets plays it!!

  • Man....you have to love the brass crescendo at 2:03.....without the benefit of using a turn to the front to help it along....beautiful!

  • gives me goosebumps everytime

  • @homfencing Very good point. I never took that into consideration.

  • guard work here is some of the best ever performed in dci

  • I loved the sound of G Bugles!

  • Sorry....but those are Bb horns (F in the mellos). Cadets and BD were the first to make the switch in 2000

  • Well, I know that, lol. I said I LOVED the sound of G bugles. I know people haven't used them for a while. :)

  • qft

  • I recently learned that entire snare section that you are talking about and it is one of my most favorite things to play!

  • are you talking about the snare part for this section? do you have music for it? i love this part so much.

  • yeah. No i learned it through alot of trial and error. It has some little tricky sticking parts for the most part it is self explainitory. good luck!

  • quick fact the center snare of the cadets in this show was a girl and since they adjusted the snares so the all be the same height the drum was really really high on her

  • good thing they had that smokin hot girl in the school girl outfit! lol it had to of helped some in scoring lol

  • agreed

  • right on jj!!! but this is a great ballad

  • To me, 2005 wasn't all that great of a year for world class DCI. However, the two shows that really shone were Bluecoats' show and this one. This ballad is one of the best moments I've ever witnessed in drum corps (only watched from 2002 on). I don't like the Cadets' use of narration either, but this particular moment is lush.

  • awesome ballad. and ummm if i remember correctly BD talked wayyy more in 05 than the cadets did....

  • one of the best ballads of recent years. Thank you for posting this. This was the only year I liked it when Cadets used Amps. Such Beautiful

  • i hate the cadets so much

mainly on their account of style involving the commentary during their entire shows the past years..

but i give them one thing

    they have a LOUD hornline

  • In my personal opinion, this ballad is the best DCI has had to offer since it first started. Cadets really hit it home with this show. I truely believe nobody can live up to what this show gave.

And is it just me, or is it the only way to win DCI div. 1 is to have some kind of show that revolutionizes DCI performing?

This shows ballad, Cavies drill, Blue Devils entire show...i mean come on.

  • I agree whole heartedly. Favorite show from 05, and the only show I still watch from that year.

  • Personally, my favorite from 05 were Phantom Regiment and Carolina Crown, but this is an absolutely BEAUTIFUL ballad. Personally I believe that the narration will die out soon. It was revolutionary when they won, but corps are using little to no narration whatsoever in the two seasons since. (Minus the Cadets of course)

  • kick ass show, ashame they followed it up badley

  • Yep, sure is too bad they followed it up badley. What did you do that summer? Sit on your couch?

  • haha slap to the face, but honestly I agree with thepaula... I personally didn't LOVE the narration but they are still outstanding performers and display amazing talent and hard work.

  • To thepaula: you think 06 was a good follow up to this? I dont.

  • If you think that is bad... look at 08 to 09 Phantom.

  • This song is may very favorite as far as far as ballads go. It is my dream to play this some time lol. This show is great.

  • whatever about y'all opinion about things that DO NOT HAVE TO DO WITH THIS CLIP. This tune rocks! in a very un-drum corps way!... try listening without watching it!... I love Bjork and Dets did a very good job with this... the groove is there from the beginning get-go... nice job Cadets.

    ~"D"

  • Everyone has an opinion. I think most of you guys who complain just need to get on a pad and hope you can make a top 5 line someday. Also, its a different year, different judges, different competition. The score happened to be the same but it doesnt mean it should be judged with the Cavies show as if they were in the same year. I trust experienced judges who are in a better position to say what is good and what isnt.

  • ditto. but why is the the concept considered "random?"

all it is is something different. people always seem to consider "whatever the status quo HAPPENS to be doing right now" to be "NORMAL" and ANything else, to be 'wierd, pretentious, etc."

    not so.

  • ..This was a terrible performance,,,Clicking your tongue, lips, mouth, etc, is not A MUSICAL PRESENTATION. The Cadets didn't belong in this show...NO WAY!..Please, give me a break....{Sorry to those who disagree with me, but it's just my opinion]

  • Haha wow i'm used to getting people pissed at me for this, but I loved this show. I love the talking, I love the singing drum solo, I love that random narration. Cadets are amazing, they try stuff people are too afraid to themselves and they do it with perfection. This show is on my top favorites. Cadets kick ass.

  • your way behind the times, man. about 100 years ago, critics declared the "trombone-glissando" to be obscene and therefore unfit for the concert hall. a lot has happened since then. ANY sound can be music. a great many things can make "percussion" sounds. give it a chance

  • have you never heard "scat singing?" its pretty much the same thing, only melodic. if your saying that "mouth sounds" are not music, but you like scat singing, then what your basically saying is you don't think percussion is music. I don't think you mean that.

many of the worlds cultures (including our own) such as Indian, African and Indonesian among others, use "recitation" of musical phrases in a very integrated manner. Its actually very interesting.

  • Especially in the Indian and West-African settings, where a musician (a dancer, actually) will RECITE (with syllables just like in Cadets 05) what is to be played (and danced) next) and the instant he finishes, the drummer and the dancers perform it, (which means the lead drummer has to recognize (and therefore know) it right away and remember it, etc.)

it is the dancer who chooses each movement, on the spot, unrehearsed.

  • so don't get angry just because something is different, give a new thing a chance, when your not angry at it "just because"

  • I hate the talking in this show, but ever since I first saw this show I liked the ballad.

  • Bjork writes some great music. I always hoped someone would put it on the field. This song was made for drum corps.

  • i did this song in marching band

  • man that's some powerful stuff
