@manhuntruler2 Considering that both the Manics and Nirvana were around at the same time and many Manics fans are Nirvana fans, I'd think they'll be aware that this is a Nirvana track.
I'm a very big Nirvana fan, but this cover was very good. Kinda like Nirvana did with The Man Who Sold The World. The songs were on the same level as the original.
@ozzyblyth yeah same as hendrix, beatles, zeppeiln, libertines, lou read, etc, etc, ad infitum. Drugs don't necessarily make you a more or less passionate person, it's about the person who's taking them.
im a massive nirvana fans but more so manics, its a good cover put into their own style. plus the manics have said and taught people through their lyrics way more than nirvana could ever help for

Jesus, this sucks. Organ, really? And what the hell was the frontman thinking with those vocals, just shouting words when he can't do the screams and doing those stupid overblown trills at the end of every line? Idiots. Weak.
@2n2equals5 You fucking idiot, did you just want him to copy and immitate the Nirvana version? JDB blows Cobain out of the water as a vocalist anyways, let alone as a guitarist.
@Flanker345 no, what I actually wanted was for him to fuck off and not butcher the classics. And being able to sing pretty does necessarily make one a good vocalist, you closed-minded tossbag. Watch Nirvana perform this song live (which you can't have already done yet) and if you have one iota of sense of what makes music god (which I doubt) you'll be so blown away by the intensity and passion Cobain puts into it that you'll forget all about this shitty, shitty version.
@2n2equals5 Word, brother. As much as I loveMSP from <1995, this sucks massive cocks. I guess it takes some people longer to really feel music, rather than just listen to it.
@2n2equals5 Aw, poor you. A band did a cover of your favourite bands song and you just can't accept that fact. How sad. Nirvana and MSP are both great bands, but both totally different and both brilliant. Would you rather if it sounded EXACTLY like the original?
@2n2equals5 So because James Dean Bradfield doesn't sound like Kurt Cobain and they slightly changed the instrumentation it's automatically shit? They like one of their contemparies' songs enough to want to cover it live, why is that such a problem for you? You haven't actually come up with any reasons for it being shit, which doesn't exactly help your argument.
@2n2equals5 I Love Manic Street Preachers and I Love Nirvana and This cover is great, but just accept the fact that James Dean Bradfield is a better guitarist then Kurt Cobain yeah? its true, you're just in denial, but singing wise, they're two very different singers.
I think this was some anti-royalist sentiment they had when they first covered it back in the 90s, to release a live version called Penny Royalty rather than Pennyroyal Tea. Pretty weak I know but I think that's why it's spelt like that.
@swaby1989 BBC is made up of a bunch of morons. Not only did they manage screw up the title of the song, but they also didn't give Nirvana any of the credit they deserved.
I feel stupid to compare the version of the manics of nirvana, are two totally different styles, plus the covers never sound the same to the original. This cover of Nirvana performing by the manics is spectacular, is not close to the original course, but the version of the manics is impressive and has the manics style
Well obvious JDB is the more superior guitar player and singer.. but you shouldnt really compair this to Nirvana's version.. cos at the end of the day covers should be different, covers should be made your own!
No spirit? Have you ever seen Kurt play live? It's hard to have spirit when your soul has been sucked dry by narcotics. I think Kurt would laugh hysterically at your claim of spirit. He said time and again that his music/lyrics/performances weren't supposed to mean anything, and it showed. People who praise Nirvana quite literally do not get the point. The Manics have more spirit (and more drive) in their collective little pinkies.
I think you're spot on here. What Nirvana perfectly and articulately represented was a lack of spirit, the crushing nature of the world. Cobain's genius was in conveying this artistically. His voice was dead and lacking in emotion. That's where it's power comes from. In Utero is a harrowing listen in that it is articulated meaninglessness. I can see why Richey (Manic) loved it so much :) the two bands were kindred spirits back then.
JDB is by far the better guitarist and as for vocals, well if you can call kurt cobain a singer, JDB far superior. He could probably play the guitar for this song with his cock, drunk.
I remember Manics recomend some opinion. They said In Utero is really brilliant album. Anyway, thank you for uploading and I really happy I can still hear great cover song. Long live Manics and Nirvana. Thanks a lot.
I'm a huge Nirvana fan but I can still appreciate a good cover!!! They done it awesome!!! Manics are brilliant and OMG I love Nick Wire's dancing and those glittery shoes!!! <3
Seemed a bit quiet really, I saw the Manics live 6 times in the UK (including Reading 2001) before moving to America. It was never that quiet at any of those gigs.
wouldn't see the killers if you paid me. Especially not over the manics you'd have to be a mug like all my mates were. Still at least i got to see a great fucking set even if i was on my own.
This And "From Despair To Where" are like the same song, music wise :L
