  • This And "From Despair To Where" are like the same song, music wise :L

  • Two of my favourite bands in the one video, it's really fucking lovely watching this.

  • me gustó el cover :)

  • I bet that audience of this fucking horrible generation dont know that this is a Nirvana cover. Also, they fucking changed the name?! Assholes.

  • @manhuntruler2 Yeah, that was funny that they didn't spell it correctly.

  • @manhuntruler2 Considering that both the Manics and Nirvana were around at the same time and many Manics fans are Nirvana fans, I'd think they'll be aware that this is a Nirvana track.

  • I'm a very big Nirvana fan, but this cover was very good. Kinda like Nirvana did with The Man Who Sold The World. The songs were on the same level as the original.

  • it pisses me off when the bbc get song names wrong and have presenters who know absolutely fuck all about good music.

  • hahaha - hhow could you 'sit and drink penny royalty?' hahaha

  • this sucks

  • intensity and passion cobain put into his music hahaha he was to high to know who he was let alone have passion for music

  • @ozzyblyth yeah same as hendrix, beatles, zeppeiln, libertines, lou read, etc, etc, ad infitum. Drugs don't necessarily make you a more or less passionate person, it's about the person who's taking them.

  • Excellent.

  • Haha Pennyroyalty wat idiots

  • im a massive nirvana fans but more so manics, its a good cover put into their own style. plus the manics have said and taught people through their lyrics way more than nirvana could ever help for

  • not bad. the man just adapted the song to his own capabilities. im not a fan of "copies" so... go manic

  • the manics are one of my fave bands but this cover is pretty rubbish, not sure what they were thinking

  • @2n2equals5 You fucking idiot, did you just want him to copy and immitate the Nirvana version? JDB blows Cobain out of the water as a vocalist anyways, let alone as a guitarist.

  • @Flanker345 no, what I actually wanted was for him to fuck off and not butcher the classics. And being able to sing pretty does necessarily make one a good vocalist, you closed-minded tossbag. Watch Nirvana perform this song live (which you can't have already done yet) and if you have one iota of sense of what makes music god (which I doubt) you'll be so blown away by the intensity and passion Cobain puts into it that you'll forget all about this shitty, shitty version.

  • @2n2equals5 Word, brother. As much as I loveMSP from <1995, this sucks massive cocks. I guess it takes some people longer to really feel music, rather than just listen to it.

  • @2n2equals5 Aw, poor you. A band did a cover of your favourite bands song and you just can't accept that fact. How sad. Nirvana and MSP are both great bands, but both totally different and both brilliant. Would you rather if it sounded EXACTLY like the original?

  • @joeisaflyingfish no, as I stated repeatedly, I'd rather it not sound like shit.

  • @2n2equals5 So because James Dean Bradfield doesn't sound like Kurt Cobain and they slightly changed the instrumentation it's automatically shit? They like one of their contemparies' songs enough to want to cover it live, why is that such a problem for you? You haven't actually come up with any reasons for it being shit, which doesn't exactly help your argument.

  • @2n2equals5 I Love Manic Street Preachers and I Love Nirvana and This cover is great, but just accept the fact that James Dean Bradfield is a better guitarist then Kurt Cobain yeah? its true, you're just in denial, but singing wise, they're two very different singers.

  • the manics are the best face it. what a shitty comment

  • Pennyroyal Tea is so cool.

    I love Nirvana.

    Ps: this version sucks

  • penny royalty. wtf. come on, its pennyroyal tea

  • lol, they're stupid

  • I think this was some anti-royalist sentiment they had when they first covered it back in the 90s, to release a live version called Penny Royalty rather than Pennyroyal Tea. Pretty weak I know but I think that's why it's spelt like that.

  • really great cover!!!

  • keyboard?!?!?!

  • WOW 111 That`s HOW YOU SHOULD DO A COVER !!! GOOD.

  • lol at the amateur bbc naming the song 'penny royalty'. Idiots

  • @swaby1989 BBC is made up of a bunch of morons. Not only did they manage screw up the title of the song, but they also didn't give Nirvana any of the credit they deserved.

  • They played this at Reading 1994, one of my all time favourite festival moments. Was also Hole's first UK gig since Kurt's suicide.

  • hate the start 'we want the killers, we want the killer!'' twats

  • I think they're saying 'fuck the killers' - they were headlining the main stage at the same time.

  • @colonslappy i was there, yes we were :P

  • They're singing "fuck the killers", the killers were on the other stage.

  • ended with the song Nirvana

  • I feel stupid to compare the version of the manics of nirvana, are two totally different styles, plus the covers never sound the same to the original. This cover of Nirvana performing by the manics is spectacular, is not close to the original course, but the version of the manics is impressive and has the manics style

  • I couldn't agree more!!! :D

  • its good but no were near as gd as original u cant beat kurts vocals and Nirvanas energy on stage

  • Did anyone else notice how Nicky is pointing up when he mentions Richey?

He gave up the hope that he'll be alive.

  • I think giving up hope and acceptance is two totally different things

  • Well obvious JDB is the more superior guitar player and singer.. but you shouldnt really compair this to Nirvana's version.. cos at the end of the day covers should be different, covers should be made your own!

  • Don't compare with it Nirvana's version too much, why do Nirvana fans get so offended by the Manics cover? I think this is great.

  • no this one stays with nirvana. valiant attempt. and im not trying to be that guy who pisses everybody off but it was bad.

  • who originally sang this. Manic street preachers or nirvana?

  • Nirvana

  • No spirit? Have you ever seen Kurt play live? It's hard to have spirit when your soul has been sucked dry by narcotics. I think Kurt would laugh hysterically at your claim of spirit. He said time and again that his music/lyrics/performances weren't supposed to mean anything, and it showed. People who praise Nirvana quite literally do not get the point. The Manics have more spirit (and more drive) in their collective little pinkies.

  • I think you're spot on here. What Nirvana perfectly and articulately represented was a lack of spirit, the crushing nature of the world. Cobain's genius was in conveying this artistically. His voice was dead and lacking in emotion. That's where it's power comes from. In Utero is a harrowing listen in that it is articulated meaninglessness. I can see why Richey (Manic) loved it so much :) the two bands were kindred spirits back then.

  • this song suits JDB's voice really well! Great cover. Thx for posting this up colonslappy.

  • I think that both versions are great, since each of them goes with their own "sonic identity"

  • This sound like the song belong to both bands, NIRVANA and Manics, two great bands, really!!

  • Amazing. Manics rule.

  • You ARE RIGHT!

  • What the fuck are all these nobheads on about?

JDB is by far the better guitarist and as for vocals, well if you can call kurt cobain a singer, JDB far superior. He could probably play the guitar for this song with his cock, drunk.

  • lol at the start is say penny royalty

  • I remember Manics recomend some opinion. They said In Utero is really brilliant album. Anyway, thank you for uploading and I really happy I can still hear great cover song. Long live Manics and Nirvana. Thanks a lot.

  • Manics have done some brilliant cover versions over the years and this is one of the best. Thanks for sharing it colonslappy!

  • the keyboards fit perfectly!! what a great cover

  • lol at 'penny royalty'.

  • Great version.

  • cheers for this vid..the manics version of nirvana's Been a Son is good too..just james with an acoustic guitar and slide :D

  • Manic's and Nirvana my fav bands *.*

  • I'm a huge Nirvana fan but I can still appreciate a good cover!!! They done it awesome!!! Manics are brilliant and OMG I love Nick Wire's dancing and those glittery shoes!!! <3

  • Nice try, but nothing can compare to the Nirvana version. Especially not the unplugged version.

And I like how they spelled it "Penny Royalty" at the bottom when the introduced it. Way to spell it wrong.

  • IMO this fucking owns Nirvana's version any day...

Better guitar solo 2.. well better guitarist all together obviously.

  • For Shame On All That Rain Down On Manics. I Love Them.

  • Nicky Wire looks like he fell in a jar of glitter the nob-end

  • This was awesome, so glad they played it, I think they did a good job. As did feeder with breed :)

  • Great song - saw in Newport . I wish they would record and put out Pennyroyal Tea as a download or B Side . Thanks Again

  • A performance like this is exactly why I love the Manics, 28 gigs and I doubt I'll ever grow sick of them. ~proud~

  • Aint james just wonderful?? just love it when james roars! :D love the guitar riff! :D .. ps. hes cute too ;) lol

  • this is soo crap compared to Nirvanas

  • meh.. i think that this is ALOT better than nirvana!..

  • I concur the vocals are poor no passion

  • drumming's bad too

  • Amazing! I've seen a gig where Little Baby Nothing was mistaken for A Little Bit Of Nothing. I have it on video I think it might be Madrid 1992.

  • PENNY ROYALTY LOL!!! BBC fucked up again. You'd think they'd do proper research LOL!!!

  • penny royalty? penny royalty?

    pennyroyal tea you tarts

  • Seemed a bit quiet really, I saw the Manics live 6 times in the UK (including Reading 2001) before moving to America. It was never that quiet at any of those gigs.

  • I love theeeeem!!!!

please bring them to Chile :'(

  • 00:57 . . . . O'dear LOL "Penny Royalty"

  • wouldn't see the killers if you paid me. Especially not over the manics you'd have to be a mug like all my mates were. Still at least i got to see a great fucking set even if i was on my own.

  • Good logic butt. Nice to see someone thinking

  • This was so fucking great, seeing them play this song live, it made the whole set. I love their version of this, and Nirvana in general.

  • we were chanting Motown Junk which they played a little later on,great performance this was also one of the highlights of the weekend for me. :)

  • thank you so much.. been waiting to see a decent vid of this live..

    love it...

ps. what were the crowd chanting at the beginin of the vid?

  • fuck the killers;

who were playing the main stage
