This song has become for Rebuild what "Komm süßer Tod" was for EoE. It just sticks in my head and will never again be separable from the scene when it was played.
And I think it also mirrors EoE in terms of Anno's mindset for the respective movies. As far as I know the guy was suffering from depression when he made the original series and movies and the Rebuild is kinda his fresh start in life with a positive attitude. And if you compare the two you can see that in every scene of Rebuild ^^

The thing is, Rebuild Asuka is given little to no opportunity to even try to befriend Shinji; they get only a few days' worth of time together before she's pretty much killed off.

I've never really watched K-on or Evangelion so I'd never seen or heard the proper translated title before.

Excellent choice of the director to have this playing in the scene. Truly a wonderful piece, sends chills down my spine and also manages to get a tear to my eye everytime I hear it.

Thaaaat would pretty much be how Shinji was in some parts of the original series, too. At least his reasons FOR doing this stuff are clearer in Rebuild. Also, come on, that scene at the finale with Rei! That's gotta be worth a bit of redemption for jerk behavior beforehand!

He DID NOT CARE that what he was doing threatened to kill all of humanity, because as long as he was happy, that's all that matters.

@YamiAura he isnt a jerk as everyone treats him bad and when he dont want to sit in Eva 01 to fight ramiel he says that he doesnt get any cred for saving the world, and he doesnt get any cred for it! so why save the world if no one bothers who does it? and rei is one of the few that understands his feelings on some way as she got the same burden wich is reflected when she faces ramiels laser to protect shinji so he can fire the positron rifle so ramiel wouldnt reach Lilith

Misato and Kaji are pretty nice to him, he has Toji and Kensuke as friends, Asuka tries to be friends with him, and Rei is apparently in love with him. And anyone who isn't going to SAVE THE WORLD because his feelings are hurt is a selfish jackass, no ifs ands or buts. Shinji's pretty standable in the original series, but in Rebuild he's a petulant cunt.

That's why I can't sympathize with his actions. He hypocritically made the decision of placing a person's life above the entire world for his own self-satisfaction. @Avalaros It doesn't fucking matter; it's not subjective that it is simply wrong to destroy everyone else on the planet for one person, who doesn't even want to be rescued; maybe if Rei was screaming for help, it'd be a little bit more justifiable, but she didn't seem to mind her fate, and was all but telling him to stop before he basically forced her into his arms. Not only does he not respect anyone else's lives, he doesn't respect Rei's choices.

The thing is, Rebuild Asuka is given little to no opportunity to even try to befriend Shinji; they get only a few days' worth of time together before she's pretty much killed off.
