So much easier to play than the renaissance lute! The lack of "thumb under"s sound beauty is compensated by the extraordinary elegance of Bach's piece and the lovely feeling and skill of the performer in this case!
I have been playing and listening to Bach for many years now, but even after all those years and now thinking about it, I still cannot comprehend how a human being can come up with such (?). Like a deep ocean and so irresistably painful.
Mr. Díaz-Latorre, thank you for your amazing interpretation of the Adagio (It is my personal best among several others). Your lute is also very beautiful. I hope I get a chance to listen to you live some day, and you post a lute version of the 1003-Grave.
@erdemkoyuncu12 thank you very much. Sometimes I also ask myself what did this man have in his head to be able to compose such amount of beautiful things... And one nicer than the other. Thx for listening
I know environmental factors like heat and humidity will effect woodwind and other string instruments with varying degrees. Do lutes tend to hold their intonation pretty well?
I'm utterly speechless. ...all I could say is #1) I am in awe of you as a musician and #2) That thing must be a real JOY to get and keep in tune!!! :)
This is really quite beautiful. Having both listened to the lute suites played by many people over my 58 years, and played them myself, although on guitar, I have to say that this is one of the best performances I have ever heard.
The relative strictness of Baroque timing (i.e., minimal rubato) coupled with the technical difficulty of playing the lute suites, seems to me to result in a mess, if not a trainwreck, for most performances. But yours was wonderful; I just wish there were more.
you dont do that what most guitar players or luthe players do: They play guitar or luthe.
But You really make music! And this is what instruments are built for.And this is what Bach wrote these "notes" for. This is nct playing - not interpreting: this is re-composing. I could say that your technical ability is overwhelmingly good - but who cares? Music is not about adoring fingers that move precisely over the neck of a guitar or vilolin - it is for the ears!
@KapnKerfuffle Those are the bass strings. They are not fretted. As you can see they are outside of the fretboard. They are plucked occasionally to ad a bass note.
nice playing man, sounds really majestic. Could you do a cover of Age of Aggression song from skyrim with this instrument? It would be really awesome to hear. Keep up the good work.
I can imagine the brainstorming session behind this instrument. "maybe we should have two people playing" "No, no, I think I got this" And then he got it.
What a horror to tune! It's easy to see why it lost half of its strings in its evolution. Still, well done!
