Here's the way I see it:

Global warming is a reality and 200 years of heavy industry has been a mild contributor.

However - and its a big HOWEVER. It doesn't make the slightest difference. Most of the potent greenhouse gasses being emitted comes from permafrost and termites. NOT US.

In any case, the earth goes through natural cycles of global heating and cooling (Ice Age anyone??) those cycles are partially governed by the changes in the Earth's orbit around the sun.

There was never a scientific consensus on global cooling in the 70s. Some scientists believed that there would EVENTUALLY (like, within the next thousand years) be some global cooling. But there was never a consensus on the issue.

At the same time, MORE scientists were saying that we were about to experience global warming. There was more evidence for global warming in the 70s than there was for global cooling. It just wasn't reflected in the media.

One more thing: Does anyone know what might become of Antarctica? I wonder, the land has been compressed over millions of years by the ice cap, but is it still mostly above the projected sea level? It could (not likely in my lifetime) become a very important living space for some of the world's most over populated nations (China, India, Indonesia, Japan, etc.). Australia/ NZ can also lay claim to it however, bringing the West (GB, USA) into the conflict as well.

It does so by Incorporating the IR photon into its elastic chemical bonds (O=C=O), which stretch and compress or rotate after they are energized by the photon (light particle). The net effect is that the IR (heat) photon is held in the atmosphere longer than if there were less CO2, and you can imagine that a single photon can be...

Ice core samples show that warming causes CO2 increases, not the other way around. Pour a beer or soda out of the can and leave it out. Where does the CO2 go? Into the atmosphere.

The sun's fluctuation in levels of radiation that is naturally emitted outward into space is what causes change in climate. The continents move around, and Greenland, Alaska, and Northern Canada would have been closer to the equator at some point in the past. A huge asteroid destroying the planet is more dramatic, surprisingly similar to GW. The Asteroid would have shed much of its material into the atmosphere, which would block sunlight for many hundreds of years.

Thousands of years ago, temperature increased and decreased; couple hundred years later, CO2 would follow the rise and troughs of temperature change. Since 2007 no scientific body of national or international standing has maintained a dissenting opinion (on the basic IPCC findings). We saw this with the American Petroleum Institute. The API said that global warming was a myth. If fossil fuels are scarce, than the market will adjust for it, and fuel will naturally become more expensive and harder to get. Adding a tax to it, does not solve the issue, we still have massive demand for fossil fuels, and you can't tax them without FORCING ALL prices in the market to go up
