Sarah Brightman was definitely talented, but her voice is just a little harsh for my taste. Emmy's actually classically trained, not just an actress lip-syncing an operatic role *ahem* Minnie Driver! However, I would have loved to have seen Charlotte too!

I saw her sing with Josh Groban on her TV show out of London, she has or had a Variety chat show; her and Josh did the duet song "The Prayer'', like on their album, Charlotte was with child-her second .They still sounded great together, Hope she comes back to her roots!.

If I remember right they did offer her the part of Christine in Phantom of the Opera the movie but said she needed to lose weight to get the part. She didn't agree to it so they ended up with Emmy instead. Charlotte reminds me more of a young sara brightman which I thought would have been great for the movie.

@CChurchFan I would agree with that, except for the fact that her voice lowered as she got older, and while it is still amazing, they would have had to change all the keys so she could sing it to perfection, like they did with this song, which isn't bad, unless you want it as true to the original musical as possible. She is amazing, though!

@CChurchFan i would have to disagree with you. emmy rossum played quite the christine. id like to call to your attention the MICROPHONES they are holding. the staging would have to be significantly different to accomodate for them. in terms of vocals, id have no doubts that shed make a brilliant christine, as long as she was brunette for it. And i think watch her vibrato, it can sometimes be quite a large fluctuation...still overall a good performance :)

@CChurchFan i think they chose emmy rossum because she has more "mainstream" appeal. charlotte church is wonderful, no doubt, but she's known mostly for her classical-type music. i've never seen the movie version of phantom, but i think it is a little sad that they would ignore her for that role.

@najae808 it was originally supposed to be Anne Hathaway (she went to julliard for opera singing) but she had to step down for Princess Diaries. She has a fantastic singing voice. She would have done wonderfully.
