  • godamn!i havent heard this in 15 years!

  • well by the time ive finished listening to this song im gonna feel the daybreak on my face!

  • they were a great grunge band!!!!

  • AWesOME!)@_$_!!!!

  • I have a new favourite song!!!!

  • this aint meat puppets 2 mate

  • Backwater

  • energy!!

  • air guitar!

  • @nedsammy the best part of the song is the guitar solo and imtating it (air-ly) and now the new stuff is rap which doesnt have guitar even or solos. They took out the best part!! =( I HATE rap. It BAD!! Live on rock n roll!!!!!!

  • is there any meat puppets songs like this one????

  • If you like the Meat Puppets you should and if you really want to have your socks knocked off you should check out what the M.P. offspring is up to these days. Elmo Kirkwood is the only heir to the great Kirkwood throne and to be pure and simple: he's a fucking god. Google search: Kirkwood Dellinger and prepare yourselves for some sick shit. Try to find a song called "Plants and Animals", it's the most symphonic ass fuck of a song to come out in a long time.

  • Music with a soul.

  • So much better with the lead guitar, can't believe they cut it out for their video. I mean was that a sell out move to get more play on the radio?? If so...well I'm thinking of seeing them at Bumbershoot in two weeks and they better play that solo

  • you know what, I've only just discovered this song, and I'm already addicted!!!

  • @metallybenj same here!!! i was listerning to it, cuz i am a HUGE alex winter (actor, director, and writer from the 80's and 90's) and i watch this thing called what in my bag? and it was alex winter, and he said that he liked this band so i typed it in and the first song was backwater, and i LOVE it!!! lol <3 alex winter

  • Favolosa.........

  • I saw them play a free show last fall, It was awesome!

  • hey i gos music like this but acoustic i wish music was grunge like/good music the closest thing famous is queens of the stone age...... kyuss broke up to make them and unida another great music please someone buy the rights to release the great divide i think everyone has heard it from d/l

  • @EDOM666DEVORE there are thousands and thousands of bands that you would consider 'good'... just because you only think and search in the popular ones it doesn't mean there aren't any. Dont look in the limelight, you wont find many there

  • @corpsemunger i know but i cant just find a name i havent heard of before though i wish there were more exposure for bands that arent signed is there any sites that do this and suggest bands for you to listen to rather than search what you already know

  • @EDOM666DEVORE Last.fm

  • @corpsemunger i know but i cant just find a name i havent heard of before though i wish there were more exposure for bands that arent signed is there any sites that do this and suggest bands for you to listen to rather than search what you already know not like this site "suggestions"

  • @EDOM666DEVORE hm i know what you mean,

besides there is some good stuff in the limelight, as you said QOTSA, them crooked vultures, foo fighters (haa they all have Dave Grohl in it)

try the Drums, they are quite popular now but they put out some realy genuinly good stuff, listen to "lets go surfing" with an open mind.

  • @corpsemunger Listen to Violent Soho, they're an amazing (a new!) grunge band!! Listen to the orginal version of Jesus Stole My Girlfriend (sounds as good as it looks) or Muscle Junkie!

  • Hey Youtube, dont select the autoplay feature for me ok??? If I want that option Ill select it my self... I can figure it out ok????

  • @bwd81977 Why don't you send that message to youtube tech instead of just posting it on a comment board for a video of The Meat Puppets' song Backwater? It just seems kind of pointless to complain to the wrong people about it.

  • @crazymania55 Because Im ignorant ok!?

  • @bwd81977 Yeah, I guess so.

  • err, this was on "too high to die" as opposed to "meat puppets II"

  • @Althmas And? What about it?

  • @crazymania55 nothing, its just on the "too high to die" album, and he has it as being on "meat puppets 2"

  • Politicics and politicians will never change...'they may seem rearranged', but they are some things that will never change.

  • @vin332010z You spelled politics wrong, not to mention that saying "politics and politicians" is rather redundant.

  • @crazymania55 Whatever, wiseguy....in the style of most of those who post comments on youtube, I had a few drinks well before I logged in and typed anything (after a social event in my case). In your case, you trawl around looking for opportunities to act like a living 'spell check'. Also, "politics" is the profession and "politicians" are the professionals.......NOT 'redundant'.

  • @vin332010z Your use of politics and politicians was redundant, not the words themselves idiot.

    Fuck you Mumbles.

  • @crazymania55 You want to resort to name calling now??? O.K.. Fuck you, idiot. A real 'youtube' toughguy, huh? You're just a pussy with internet access, you daft prick punk dolt. Hang yourself.

  • @vin332010z Aren't you doing the same?

  • @CorruptCop01 Apparently so.....

  • Fuck everyone else and their shit music and if you really want to have your socks knocked off you should check out what the M.P. offspring is up to these days. pure and simple: he's a fucking god. Google search: Kirkwood Dellinger and prepare yourselves for some sick shit. Try to find a song called "Plants and Animals", it's the most symphonic ass fuck of a song to come out in a long time, it makes you feel like youve been kicked in the gut and lovingly kissed all at once.

  • Hell yeah, great song.

  • Brings back memories...damn I miss those good times!

  • Everyone morning going to middle school, I used to hear this on the bus! We used to all sing this, man those were some good times!!

  • Umm...very Nirvana. I like it!

  • @bodymadeforsin NO nirvana is very meat puppets get it right

  • @bodymadeforsin Kirt loved these guys, they played with him during the unplugged concert.

  • good hangover song

  • They've been knwown in France, and now almost forget.

    Great song!

  • i'm surprised since they never became too popular here in the states

...at least on the east coast

  • a "lifestyle" in a song. beautiful, and warped. my hands look foreign as of late.

  • great song

  • what album is this on?

  • @grizzlysnuffdiper Too High to Die

  • good meat puppets song!

  • I loved this song since the 1st time i heard in 1994 fanstic

  • even though I love this song for some reason I don't get along well with most white people

  • @djkramnik

    LOL

  • i love this song

  • thats the wrong album

  • The guitar soloing reminds me of Mike Mccready.

  • great stereo audio channels here!!

  • Gotta love stereo playback

  • i feel grungie when im coming down from heroin

  • awesome!!!!!!

  • the chord progression reminds me of sir duke by stevie wonder

and why did you add the cover of Meat Puppets II?

  • Great song. Label however the fuck you want, just label it a 90's classic.

  • This was all Arizona...Boys are from Sunnyslope...Tempe never knew what hit them when they played the little places here back in the day.

  • courtney love is hackking cool, even if she killed kurt or payed someone to kill kurt... dont hate hole because of courtney.

  • nah. Hole sucks. even if courtney wasn't in it

  • @corpsemunger

Right...you Can't "Hate" A "Hole" even if Courtney did in fact kill Kurt or "Payed" "Someone" to Kill Kurt because Courtney's a "Hole" and in Modern-America "Hole's" can Kill Rich successful Men and become Rich and Successful all because you have a Hole...Hole.! Hole?.......Courtney+Hole= CourtneyHole???

  • @kikkiohog

    what?

hole is a band, hole play music, listen to the music - not who sings it

  • kick ass song!

  • Comment removed

  • la raja este tema! te hace sentir la epoca donde escuchabas rock con 7 años!

  • este tema es cuaaaaaaaaaaatiko!

  • Always loved this song. This was the era when bands like MP and Everclear were taking grunge in a less depressing direction

  • @CuuijqyMuruqdte you dont even know man

  • Why? don't tell me you're one of those that believe that Grunge paved the way for emo music. =S. wtf? o_O Dude I know. I lived during this era, it was my prime, from 1990-95' the best years of my life, my highschool days. I can identify with this genre. =(

  • @CuuijqyMuruqdte fuck emo music but youre telling this not grunge at all?

  • Um, grunge isn't/wasn't depressing. I don't know what kinda bands come to mind when you think of grunge..

  • @AdamskiWTF

Alice In Chains' songs were mostly about depressing things

    :P

  • Just one of the 'big four' grunge bands. No others you can mention?

  • @AdamskiWTF...again

Nirvana, Alice In Chains, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Black Flag, Stone Temple Pilots, Meat Puppets, Mudhoney, the Melvins, Green River, Hole (even though Courtney Love's a bitch), Temple of the Dog, you want anymore?

  • Lets see, black flag were a hardcore punk band that had nothing to do with the seattle scene, meat puppets were more punk (also a long way away in Arizona), STP (although a great band) arent really grunge at all. No Skin Yard, Malfunkshun, Tad, Screaming Trees? You said Pearl Jam & Temple of the Dog, but no Mother Love Bone? If you'd actually read my comment back, i was asking for more 'depressing' sounding grunge bands in a reply to my first comment.

  • @AdamskiFTW, True man, you can't forget Mother Love Bone and early Meat Puppets was Punkrock altough there music is now more mellow sounding

  • @AdamskiFTW oh shut it, stop labeling grunge... grunge can be whatever... wether pop or punk, its shit labeling a whole band because its so inaccurate. grunge is what you want it to be, stop complication things.

  • well..no it can't. grunge was something that happend mainly in seattle from the mid 80s to the late 90s. it can't be 'whatever'. that's what it was mate

  • @AdamskiFTW it totally can, you cant define music by when it was written, music is music, alot of 'grunge' bands came from seatlle and thats why it is sometimes also called 'the seattle sound' but there are lots of 'grunge' bandsfrom places away from seattle, janitor joe for instance... it can be whatever the hell you want, hell, Kurt cobain who really put grunge into the mainstream didnt even really like calling Nirvana grunge, or even really using the term 'grunge'

  • @AdamskiFTW grunge is what you personnaly make of it, not what some internet geek has defined it as bieng

  • well no it really isn't. if it's what i personally make of it then i could say green day are a grunge band & you couldn't say otherwise, that makes no sense at all. like i said grunge was something that happend in seattle at a certain time, thats what the word has come to define

  • @AdamskiFTW

    Corpse is right.

  • @Scr00bius What so the term 'grunge' can actually mean anything? So by that logic i could call rod stewarts music death metal? Idiots

  • @AdamskiFTW

No. But it means different things to different people. Grunge OBVIOUSLY isn't just a certain style of music that came out of Seattle during a certain era. It can be from anywhere, at any time. Music is a broad spectrum.

  • @Scr00bius Well no it really isn't. The word grunge is literally used to describe the bands coming out of seattle at that time, there wasnt any other way to really describe them because most of them didn't really sound alike. I mean saying the 'grunge scene' would be pretty synonymous with saying the 'seattle scene'. If you're so adamant that I'm wrong then name as many grunge bands as you can that aren't from Seattle...

  • @AdamskiFTW Actually, what people usually over look is a lot of grunge bands came from Portland or around Portland. Like where nirvana was from is closer to Portland than Seattle. Calamity Jane, L7, The Wipers, Dinosaur Jr, Sweaty Nipples, Dead Moon, NIRVANA, Dharma Bums, The Obituaries, Miracle Workers and I'm almost certain Mother Love Bone spent a lot of time in Portland because the first album had a Satyricon sticker on the cover. i'm not saying all those bands were from here but a lot were.

  • Awesome stuff

  • This is such a good song. I wish iTunes had this and their other stuff they don't have.

  • Guess whom bought this tape AND their 1985 vinyl ep. No, pee-pullz, the vinyl is NOT for sale.

  • iTunes just made the Meat Puppets' cd "Too High To Die" available as of 10-15-09. FINALLY!

  • yes but dude its been avail for years in shops for $5 and itunes sucks. come on, their ripping your off buy a turn table.

  • download DVD Videosoft :) you just copy and paste the url and it puts the audio of the video to a file that you can put into your itunes!

  • Saw them with STP last night. Great concert

  • stp? what is that lane staley's ghost's little bro's band which never really had a sound of their own? MP's are good though. glad it was a good show.

  • ...You can't say that "Purple" wasn't a good album, if you don't like STP then i can't really take your opinion seriously. They might not have an original sound, but dammit they might be the best at doing it.

  • Backwater is not on Meat Puppets 2. It's on Too High To Die. Just so yall know.

  • awsome

  • I wish music nowadays was like this, not just generic indie pop and rap shite.

  • @sambopukka I said the same thing today

  • @sambopukka it is around you just gotta look in the right places! look up pregnant, screaming females, black wine and jeff the brotherhood! fucking awesome bands trying to bring back good music.

  • @sambopukka yeah! mand, this song is a classic reminds me when i was a child, not just like bieber!

  • This song is a fuckin classic! Reminds me of the good ol' days.

  • hell yeah, this song is so '93-94. Miss those days

  • @MrDrProfessorJrMD you ain't lyin' my friend. you ain't lyin'. : (

  • once again, this song is on "Too High To Die".. ..

    great song though :D

  • haha yeah this song is about kicking heroin

  • A great song, but I don't think you weed smokers will ever understand what they are referring to (its more about shit you put in your arm)

  • Wow that makes so much sense. I never tried to put meaning to the lyrics, but holy shit, it makes perfect sense.

    Some things will never change

With the backwater swirling there are somethings that will never change

And when i should have a long time

It laughs until it finds ways

And maybe i'm blind, good fine.

PERFECT SENSE. I'm glad you made that point

  • you mean robotic enhancements like Like Skywalker?

  • This is the way it should sound. I don't even watch those pathetic video uploads of this.

  • Great Quality Post.

  • Awesome stoning song.

  • It's so much more powerful how he just rings out the bass notes at the begining. Instead of pounding away on every beat.

    Love this band.

  • I just smoked a bowl 40 minutes a go and this song sounds so awesome right now.

  • bowl or not or better yet many bowls, . . . from the marijauana capitol of the west Roswell NM

  • NM? Nice I'm from Phoenix myself. I'm looking forward to legal weed in 2010. :)

  • "A Change Is Gonna Come"

    The Droogs (1984)

  • Lol, nice song. =)

  • cant wait to see them on the 26th its truly gonna be an honor!

  • some things will never change

  • omg, awesome song!! i haven't heard this in years....

  • respect

  • this mix with the lead guitar is awesome, sounds different from the video version

  • Not right album but still sweet band

  • love peace empathy

  • But this song was from "Too High to Die," not "Meat Puppets II." Thanks anyway dude. Rock 'n roll
