  • this is such an entertaining vid

  • I WANT ONE OF THESE BOATS

  • This clip was in awesome aussie skiffs too, this whole competition.

  • win or swim!!!!!!!!

  • Excelente!!

  • this is world class,

hearts like lions and balls to match,

anyone wanting to gybe a spinnaker should first show his crew this video,

and then weep at their pityful efforts trying to copy it

    loved it

    john

  • Top gun jet fighter stuff!!!

  • DAMN!

  • my dad and I sail a 16 foot hobie cat. These things look pretty fun to fiddle with. The spinnaker will be an adjustment though...

  • love the commentator!

  • lol at 0:19 the skipper nearly fell off!

  • @Corsair1101 he just slipped he was still hooked on the trap.

  • win or swim :D

  • they are realy brave a xDD

  • how fast is the 18ft goin there?

  • id say 30 knots maybe even 35

  • They can reach approx 30 kts at the most. In this case I would guess 20 to 25 kts. Anyway fast enough. There are 18s with wings, do not know their top speed. Hydroptere cracked the 50 kts recently.

  • so cool

  • Commentator: "win or swim"..or both:)

  • why would a sydney 18 foot skiff be in aukland??? it's sydney harbour!!

  • commentator: "its like a giant waterski"

naa its better than that bud xD

  • legendary reaching

  • auckland harbour 95-96, wind against tide.

  • io ho un 29er e aspiro a questa barca che ha un mio amico

  • Should io be at the beginning of the sentenceshouldnt it be "ho un 29 io "or somesuch.just wondering I am apedant.

  • that commentator was pissing me off

  • some fast sailing there

  • It is like a giant waterkski!

  • they.. win? xD

  • no its Sydney Harbour.

  • buddy thats auckland harbour

  • @saltymarshy Why do you think its Sydney harbour? I have sailed both for a few years and it looks a lot more like Auckland to me.

  • @saltymarshy it is aukland harbour the actual vis says (awsome aussie 18ft skiffs)

  • I recognise that as auckland harbour (NZ) and with that wind it would fit. Am i right?

  • fucking acrobats

  • Hmmm, I'm gonna stick with the backstay theory! Because the wind is so high they are sailing very deep, ie. minimum apparrent wind. Thats why the helmsman is in the boat and not out on trap... The are sailing almost dead down wind trying to keep the bows up!

That vid is pretty old to! I don't think they were using carbon sticks at that point!

  • nah they have carbon fibre masts at the bottom but then a fibre glass top sction for bend, its sheeted in so much cause there going so fast the apperent wind is so bit that its like going up the beat for the main :D great vid

  • i remember watchin that on tv!

  • So much power in those kites!!! I guess the mainsheet is sheeted so hard coz the sail acts like a backstay to stop the mast from going over forwards!

  • Either that or the apparent wind is a long way forward!

  • Are you serious? ...Ever heard of apparent wind?

Plus the boats have swept back spreaders...no need for a backstay

  • win or swim that's a very nice quote

  • that looks sweet

  • win or swim..........

  • nice boat nice wind nice clip I WANT TOO

  • caralho que tesão!! puta que pariu nunca vi nada parecido!!!!!!olha o que os caras tocam o bixo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • nice video

  • I'm sooo jealous of u aussies- they tellevise ur grand prixs :o

  • how often did he he say "nokia" ? good work on the sport, but way to much produkt.

  • its called sponsorship buddy. these boats cost a helluva lot, and most of the teams wouldn't be able to last with only funds out of their own pockets.

and who cares if there are sponsors. sailing is sailing, with or without a giant brand name spread across your chute.

  • sailed them on sydney harbour for 10 years myself and they have been sponsored since before you were born. at least $100,000 required to build and sail so wont be out there without the sponsors who support the sport. Stick to your laser doc!

  • Why do people keep posting video's that have already been posted?

  • i was the first to post this. other people just posted the full video after

  • @saltymarshy It's originally from "Awesome Aussie Skiffs"

  • @saltymarshy

Other people....you mean NOKIA right? Thats what I would do. Have a flunky reposting videos on all sites....

  • awesome!!!

  • THATS SOOO FAST!

  • and people still say sailing is slow and boring?!

  • Cheers fellas I always love seeing the Sydney harbor 18's in full flight.

  • i learn every time i watch this sequence, the speed, the changing aparent wind directions, see how sheet-ed in the main is during the set? those guys must have legs like surfer/socker players!..Amazing!

  • nice

  • Got the vid and bought an old 49er thanks to this sequence, it is that awesome. Remember the names....David Witt, Cameron Macdonald and Charlie Deakman...(hope that's all spelt right guys!) and if you ever meet them in a bar go shake thier hands because those boys can sail......!!

  • guys this video is the ronstan awesome aussie skiffs video and could order it from ronstan or from the local yacht shop

  • uwheeeeeeeeeeee

    thats speed

  • Insane! :-O

  • Amazing!

  • Great video guys!! love it.

  • How can you cut that off like that?! That's evil!

...do you have the rest of that clip, please upload!

  • its the same movie takenin aukland bay, gusting what looks like 35 knots! im with you 29ers forever! sail number 789

  • Hi, is there more to this movie??? Because at the start it looks like its going from another movie!

if there is Could you tell me the address?

    Thanks,

    Levi

  • What race is this and when?

Furthermore, what were the conditions, commentator says they were very tough....what was it gusting?

  • Wheee... and you thought sailing was for seniors!
