My daily visit. Can't go one day without coming here. When will this David Cook obsession end? Don't understand it. I know Andy sang this originally and he's got a nice voice but Cook puts it at another level with the passion and soul he injects everytime he sings a song even if he sings it over and over again.

He transforms a musical performance into a four minute, very intimate look into his soul. I find myself almost hypnotized and forgetting to breath every time I watch this. Absolutely stunning. I agree Love3. I prefer hearing David sing Anodyne, but I also think a song like "Make Me" is more suited to Andy, so it's probably song-dependent. I think they're both great in their own way!
Just look at him when he performs. He means every word, he feels every word, his soul sings every word. He touches your soul and dares you not to feel something. Yes, this is what will make him a legend--his passion. No matter how many times he sings a song, he puts the same amount of passion into it if not more.
The 15 seconds from 3:00 to 3:16: "the great white ships are sailing... the feet have left their railing... the four last hooves are hailing," are epic, the way he emotes the overwhelming pain one feels at the loss of a loved one. A truly moving, haunting performance by Cook. Bravo!

I can't get this song or video out of my head. Performing songs, creating beautiful music and lyrics; all were his destiny. I know exactly what you mean! I mean, I was still paying attention and sometimes checking out his site, but now...I'm addicted to this song. It's so hauting and compelling and painful and pleading...but, it makes me feel strong by the end. A masterpiece, that's what it is.

I think respect needs to be paid in full to the amazing musicians who brought this song to David Cook. Huge props to Neal Tiemann and Andy Skib, as well as the other phenomenal members of Midwest Kings. The band is spectacular and all their songs are incredible. Dave sang the crap out of the song, but the lyrics speak for themselves.

I will admit I never heard of MWK until David Cook. Then I listened to some of their music but it just didn't grab me; I thought it was ordinary. Now, don't shoot me. I have, since then, become an Andy Skib fan and even bought To Have Heroes, which I love. I'm just saying that I didn't FEEL the music like I feel it when David performs it. Also, I've heard that David co-wrote this song with Neil back in the MWK days and Andy sang lead. If that's true, this is as much David's song as Neil's, no?

My daily visit. Can't go one day without coming here. When will this David Cook obsession end? Don't understand it. I know Andy sang this originally and he's got a nice voice but Cook puts it at another level with the passion and soul he injects everytime he sings a song even if he sings it over and over again.

Such an amazing song...it's like I could FEEL how he was feeling while he was singing this. And, the ending....omg....so sexy the way he handled the mic at the end...he is fantastic all the way around...no one has ever made me appreciate music or the way it can make you feel like this man does.

I've favorited about 50 DC tour vids, but keep coming back to this one. I cant add much to whats already been written but I think Love36214 nailed it when she said, he's not just singing the song, he's living it in the moment. He transforms a musical performance into a four minute, very intimate look into his soul. I find myself almost hypnotized and forgetting to breath every time I watch this. Absolutely stunning. Thank you again for posting. And thank you David for always giving 110%.

Thanks fullyCOOKed for expressing even further exactly how I feel about David and his performances. It was stunning live even from the balcony. He talked about being more open and "naked" since Idol. This is him exposing his wonderful soul for our entertainment. I think it is cathartic for him. I think he has a NEED to share these feelings with others on stage where he wouldn't off stage. I think he was looking at the pedals which sit right in front of him. I'm pretty sure he knows the lyrics since he had a hand in writing the song LOL Darn good if he could read words off a paper on the floor!

I mean, I'm pretty sure he was having trouble with memorizing the words--hence why some of the words are different than the actual lyrics. but, like I said, it's still a mind-blowing performance! I too am HOOKED! lol...no need to give me a thumbs down, LOL

that is true, he doesn't like to get distracted so he looks anywhere but into the crowd. He really gets into the lyrics and the passion of the song. This song is very long and complex & he's certainly done this song plenty of times to remember the lyrics--besides he'd have to have it written pretty big on a big piece of paper to read it off the floor. LOL

Please don't hate me Andy lovers but I get so much more out of this song with David singing it. David has a way of putting his heart and soul into whatever song he is singing by immersing himself into it. He just wrings every emotional response possible out of a song. It is like he is not just singing this song, he is living it in that moment. I think this has to do with how very empathetic he is in general. I love this man.

The 15 seconds from 3:00 to 3:16: "the great white ships are sailing... the feet have left their railing... the four last hooves are hailing," are epic, the way he emotes the overwhelming pain one feels at the loss of a loved one. A truly moving, haunting performance by Cook. Bravo!

What a soul-stirring performance of this song! David's voice is a true gift. He says every song tells a story; he pulls us into a moment in time of smouldering passion and pain with every lyric. I can't get this song or video out of my head. Performing songs, creating beautiful music and lyrics; all were his destiny. So glad he had such strong belief in himself to persevere until he reached that destiny. What an inspiration that shoud be to us all.

I know exactly what you mean! I mean, I was still paying attention and sometimes checking out his site, but now...I'm addicted to this song. It's so hauting and compelling and painful and pleading...but, it makes me feel strong by the end. A masterpiece, that's what it is.

I think respect needs to be paid in full to the amazing musicians who brought this song to David Cook. Huge props to Neal Tiemann and Andy Skib, as well as the other phenomenal members of Midwest Kings. The band is spectacular and all their songs are incredible. Dave sang the crap out of the song, but the lyrics speak for themselves.
How psyched are we that these three talented musicians found each other!!

I will admit I never heard of MWK until David Cook. Then I listened to some of their music but it just didn't grab me; I thought it was ordinary. Now, don't shoot me. I have, since then, become an Andy Skib fan and even bought To Have Heroes, which I love. I'm just saying that I didn't FEEL the music like I feel it when David performs it. Also, I've heard that David co-wrote this song with Neil back in the MWK days and Andy sang lead. If that's true, this is as much David's song as Neil's, no?

David Cook doesn't just sing a song. He embodies it. He lives it and breathes life into it. He is mesmerizing and just uncomparable. I have to actually recover after listening to a performance like this.
If you haven't seen Permanent at Oxford, go find it on youtube. It's a performance of the same caliber as this one.
