I|'m very impressed by ion Stefanescu's performance. Again, I wonder how many different interpretations of this singular piece are avaiable. What if I wanted to buy the score? I don't get it.
IMO, Rhonda Larson's performance of Les Folies d'Espangne is the best interpretation of (his) composition. I've listened to other flutists' interpretations and they are different from Rhonda's. And, IMO, are not as well performed.
@principalflutist I disagree. I think there is merit to many recordings on youtube as well as other professional recordings. Yes Rhonda Larson's is very beautiful and meets the emotional, technical and historical demands desired by the composer; however, the glory of this piece is the diversity of the infinite possibilities executed by each performer. I think you are very correct to think Rhonda's is good, but allow yourself to enjoy the spontaneity of each interpretation :)
I can not argue with your missive. Each artist is allowed "artistic license" and may well interpret the "score" that he or she is reading. I've heard several versions of Les Folies d'Espangne, from flutists such as Susan Milan, Jean Baxtersser, et al. Each of them has a "different" "voice" to bring. I appreciate all of them. It's just that my favorite interpretation belongs to Rhonda. Thanks that we can agree to disagree. Respect to you: principalflutist.
I'm glad to hear that! Maybe we shouldn't state that on other people's videos though? Just out of consideration of those who are sharing their music with us.
Another nice performance but it doesn't beat Rhonda Larson's interpretation and performance of the Marais. Too slow in certainphrases and is mission the passion.

Contradictions, please?

@principalflutist ... His main purpose may not have been to "beat" anybody.
(I prefer Rhonda's interpretation too !)
