I used to have a teacher (who's an old lady now). when she was in college in tulsa she and two girlfriends were out on the highway and they had a flat. the guy who stopped and changed their tire for them was george gobel. they thanked him and he said, "that's ok, I have a daughter."
So, in addition to taking away the stars for rating and the scores for comments, it looks like you can't delete your own comments. Way to go, youtube!
{Fruit} Stripe Gum was marketed by Beech-Nut, and different from "Stripe toothpaste" [Lever Brothers did not sell gum], 'Mama'. Today, neither of them are available.
Unlike Jackie Gleason, Andy Williams and Carol Burnett, Garry didn't believe in saving copies of his shows for future storage and "posterity". Some of his kinescopes exist, but not all of them...
Thanks - wow - Carol's cute!---What happened to Garry's shows? - were most destroyed? - they would be nearly priceless to boomers if available on DVD -- I had a tape of one Garry Moore show (Halloween?) with Boris Karloff doing a "Kiddie Korner" skit but its lost :^( --love to see Durward Kirby do Carl "Sandbag" again!
ya!! Carol's my favourite!! I love her show!! And Garry moore DVDs would also be priceless to us 16 yr olds with half a brain who refuse to be corrupted by such crap as Hannah Montana. Whew...now i'm all worked up, lol!!
This probably aired in late 1959, as George appeared primarily to promote his "new" CBS Sunday night show that season [he alternated with Jack Benny at 10pm(et) Sunday nights for the same sponsor, Lever Brothers; George sold "Stripe toothpaste", Jack appeared on behalf of "Lux soap"]. Carol Burnett had just become a regular cast member of Garry's show, with support from Marion Lorne and Moore's announcer/foil, Durward Kirby...

Hmm ... thinking of America in 1959, wouldn't that opening be a little controversial?

What a treat to see Marion Lorne. I love Aunt Clara, and its so rare to see anything else of her.

Garry was,of course, a good friend of Bill Cullen , and starred on "I've Got A Secret"..
Bill probably loved the parody!

Thanks for uploading.
Random Thoughts:
1. You can tell slightly that Bill Cullen has a limp and that's because he wore a brace that he hid from the camera.
2. You could tell that Carol was growing beyond just being a member of the troupe.
3. Most people think of George Gobel as a legendary standup comedian but he also had
a great singing voice and performed on Broadway.

@bigred997 Bill Cullen was diagnosed with poliomyelitis during his childhood. (At that time, there was no vaccine).
