  • You probably don't have to use your hands. However since each action is most likely controlled by a kinetic thought, i.e. thinking about moving forward, it helps to actually do the movement. If you were good enough, and the headset was calibrated for you, you could get to the point where you just think the movement instead of performing it (since its known from brain studies that the brain actually fires off the same when thinking about or mimicking actions).

  • Use the force dude.

  • uploaded March 10 2007??

  • this guy saw to much matrix

  • I want to play Mass Effect as Adept using this. It would be fun.

  • eso debe dejar un dolor de cabeza, prefiero el control hay mas emocion en el juego

  • @TheHect17 estoy contigo, ademas se ve preparadisimo, es un playback

  • if you have to use your hands and do signs with this....

deaf people will be invincible at shooter games..

  • his brain is too stupid, let someone else do it. Like, get a homeless dog from the street.

  • you can just think, but you're body and brain has to be accustomed to using this before just thinking would work. afterwards you should be able to just think.

  • you can just think, but you're body and brain has to be accustomed to using this before just thinking would work.

  • So do you have to make a motion, like raising your arms, for it to detect the brain signals, or can you do it by just thinking about raising your arms?

  • @Ravie3 I have been writing this concept down.

  • @Ravie3

By thinking the motion. Of course, it's easier to think of a motion if you actually perform it muscularly. I'd think that not everyone's imagination may be up to snuff enough so that thinking of moving a muscle results in a firing of synapses equivalent to actually moving said muscle.

  • @Lyrelia

There are ways to train these synapses youre talking about. Not to sound too fringe, like id be expected to sound on youtube for saying such things.... energy work, chi gong, work with feeling the magnetics of the body of light works big tiome for me in biofeedback. Ive been able to do some pretty awesome stuff with the wild divine game. Looking forwards to getting this product soon.

  • And furthermore--- The synapses can be looked at like this--- a filling up of the bioelectrical component of the physical body, triggered by the wil(sympathetic nervous system) and relax response(parasympathetic)-- Yang and yin aspects to one another. Many ppl would say that these are hardly appropriate titles to relate, but more subtle experiences become possible when these "synapses" you mention are trained to "circulate" throughout the entire system. Cheers...

  • Force a noob to play WoW with this

  • Well done Padawan..

  • "You mean you have to use your hands? That's like a babies toy."

  • @cwhit92 You don't have to use your hands. I'm guessing it will just be a lot easier to think about the gestures you are doing it you are physically doing them

  • 3 x dot .

  • I don't understand way people find this technology scary.

  • and they are only $300, I want one...

  • microsoft should buy this and combine it with kinect. full virtual reality is very soon!

  • OMFG HE A JEDI!!!!

  • @Bloodgui btw i am 100% positive that this type of thing will be used for universal mind control. i mean it s already happening thru subtle images like in music vids, advertisments and whatnot, but this wud defo be the next step

  • VIRTUAL REALITY IS NYE!!!

    damn i love the future

  • Oh shit, that two-fingered "force push" at 1:51 was so sweet.

  • Am not sure how much of it is with "their mind" and how much is detection of muscular signals... can he do the same without moving hands/blinking, tensing head muscles etc??

  • Good morning,

In the reading of your site, I noted that we share to a great extent the same vision of things.

I like to dedicate you a space, within Pleasure of Senses, in ARRAS in FRANCE to introduce your peculiarity.

I stay at your disposal for one make you.

    Respectfully vôtre

  • tis is false advertisement it says it reads brain waves but it goes of movements. what a load of shit they should have left this alone for now...

  • @PowerHackerZ, it does read brain waves, you should look up the tech before you knock it. The reason behind moving arms or anything like that is most likely increasing the conceptualization of mind power. Like actually moving your hand would be easier to produce the necessary thought.

  • @PowerHackerZ Its called brainwaves brilliance, you should look up how the mind controls a motion, and the correlation between imagining the motion and actually doing it.

  • yeah whatever! this will probably give u more headaches than anything else! i was looking foward to smth where u can close your eyes or get into a subconscious state and virtually enter the gaming world like a dream of some sort or like in james cameron's avatar and u can fully intereact with that world. now that would be epic. but i guess people wud stop having a life lol

  • lol as a kid i have always been fascinated with telekinesis and this technology just answered my dream..(^_^)

  • does he have to move his hands? what if a paraplegic wanted to do this?

  • paraplegics can move their arms and hands. your thinking quadraplegic

  • @simplykrispy yea quad thats what I meant, still if a guy (or gal) had no arms, they should still be able to use this thing right?

  • @lordnemos yes. It works by reading the electronic signals in the brain. that being said, it would be a little harder to stimulate that signal if you don't know how to move said arms because you didn't have them in the first place

  • @lordnemos no, the whole idea is that it reads brain waves, and honestly it will remember the brain waves arbitrarily; if it tells you to think about rotating an object so the app will memorize those brain waves but you keep thinking about lifting the object, from now on every time you think about lifting objects they'll rotate instead.. you train the machine to your own unique brain patterns... that being said it would be smart to train the rotate action to the actual brain waves for rotation

  • Damn, he's a slow thinker, he should go back to school if it takes him that long.

  • Dude, we're talking about fucking mind-reading technology. A few seconds worth of lag is to be expected.

  • Lol not if you look at all the other demonstrations plus this guy is like bald anyway haha.

  • Moron: Mind. Reading. Technology. It's not a fucking precise art. Everyone has similar yet distinct brainwave patterns. This shit takes time to become accurate.

And what the fuck does hair have to do with it?

Jesus Christ you are fucking stupid.

  • Hair has alot to do with the sensors picking up the brainwaves you dumbshit. And you call me stupid.

  • There are pads that need to be moistened to make contact with the skin. Hair won't matter. The water molecules don't really care if hair is in the way or not.

  • Cheap! its not worth 300$

  • wow... that thing is amazing! I think he needed to concentrate more or he was nervous. When someone is nervous the brain doesn't work as it should! xD

  • Are the hand gestures necessary? Anyhow, the refresh is too slow can this be improved?

One sector that would benefit from this is the study of dreams. While sleeping have the dream pattens outlined virtually.

  • @Pitahchez you can use Zeo to monitor dream patterns ;)

  • lol

  • heh... his brain was lagging.

  • you really don't have to wave your arms around.

although it does make it easier...

  • how do u buy this product outside US?

  • seminolePP. you can buy SKD versions outside US, but they are more expensive. cheapest is developer pack 500$. i gonna boy it

  • This is amazingly stupid. With actions that "fast" you can be the best in any game *end sarcasm* -_-;

  • dude. this is the future.

  • 337 comments.Mini-Leet

  • YES!!!!!! I BOUGHT MINE

  • @lisantampa really? does it work well? i am considering one of these is it good for anything besides gaming?

  • Finally!Shouting "JUMP OVER THE DANG LAVA!" will be useful!

  • Dude, this could make Dragon Ball Z games even cooler!

  • @elfslay lmfao... yes we must pray to god that they apply this to DBZ games

  • @AsianFizz yes oh god yes!!!!!!!

  • It will be cool but if it that hard to move something, it'll be be like playing Dragon Ball Z in slow motion. Dragon Ball Z is fast and none stop action. There is no way that this tech can respond that quickly. Look at him. Its not very responsive and I heard that things can interfere with it.

  • Yes, right now, but as with all technology as I hope you have noticed, it will advance. I'll give this stuff ten years, and even that may be more than enough time for it to be advanced enough.

  • The force is strong with this one

  • @xved2052 I can see that ROLF.

  • @xved2052 ROFLMAO!

  • @xved2052 luke im your father :P

  • needs alot more work

  • here's a hint emotiv: if you're gonna demo a cool mind control technology don't hire john carmack's dorky looking cousin to show it off while doing his best impression of a jedi... get a good looking woman who doesn't move but simply focuses

  • LAG

  • THATS BULLSHIT!! :P

  • my brain hurts... and im only seeing it :P

  • *watching

    im stoned (?)

  • These look like you cant use most headsets with them which sucks since I rarely use speakers and need my headset if I use Ventrilo.

  • SCIENCE

  • This is the direction microsoft and sony should be going. Not this motion control crap. Especially as it has many other uses besides games. This could bring a new era of gaming if perfected, but this company will not be the one to do it. Unless selling some expensive proprietary hardware with ultra expensive development tools to a handful of people with too much money and too little sense will "usher in a new era of gaming.

  • dude, the dev kit might be 500 bucks, but they already have the consumer model listed for 299 USD. And that is the pre order special edition. I could imagine the common edition going for 199, which is the price of a high end gaming headset.

  • For one, no one with any sense is spending $200 on a headset. Secondly, the dev kit isn't even remotely $500. The proper dev kit with all the features available to it I've been hearing is several thousand dollars. That's absurd.

  • yeah but you're not a developer, don't get that version. 200 dollars is a reasonable amount for a new technology. I have friends who've spent close to that for a keyboard and mouse. And this is an entirely new interface. I agree that thousands of dollars is absurd, but that's not the price that we're discussing, 300 and 200 are an acceptable price for something like rock band when they were brand new, and this offers a lot more potential as an interface.

  • SCIENCE

  • This headset works by detecting electrical signals in the brain because each thought emits a unique signal so they translate the signal into what the game recognizes lol it's really not that complicated when u think about it lol and I'm only 14 lol

  • Yeah but you also haven't made it :)

  • Yeah lol its not complicated at all lol. lol. lol.

  • i just realized people with afros can't play using this

  • .......holy shit!

  • ...Son of a bitch!

  • R. I. P. Afros, they weren't practical for the future.

  • @GideonIon8 actually, you can probably have a controller built into the afro

  • @Elhuggante yeah people would need a hair cut to get a better feedback from the control

  • @Elhuggante like me :(

  • Please make all in one FPS, MMA, SuperHero game. And some cool star wars or matrix stuff.

  • Comment removed

  • SCIENCE!

  • Can't wait to use this in an upcoming Star Wars game. ;)

  • i see this being in the next wii

  • The force is strong in this one...

  • SCIENCE!

  • SCIENCE !

  • Nueroscience to be more specific. XD I'm sorry, I'm a hard ass like that.

  • SCIENCE !

  • SCIENCE

  • Looks can be deceiving. This thing is real and people have used it at conventions. It works too (with practice).

  • It's like I'm really Jedi.

  • SCIENCE

  • How the hell science explain this anyway?

  • It can't. It's magic. I think the Emotiv employees are aliens from another dimension.

  • wahahaha u dummbass.

  • smalltime brain controller for casuals

  • cool game bro

  • wow how does this work? do you just say rotate in your head or what?

  • He looks like he's training to be a Jedi.

  • hilarious xD

  • before you guys get all riled up, this is just a concept game. somthing simple the software guys wrote to demonstrate this product. The "early adopters" who buy somthing like this product will be the real test. I want one of these.

  • looks like it's going to take some time before use of this is fully practical. This thing doesn't look too responsive.

Maybe it requires a lot of willpower?

  • I think it would require a lot of willpower, as you owuld actually have to believe it was real, which would be a stretch of the imagination.

  • Oh good, my insanity will be worth something! hurray!

  • oh yeah... its gonna get a lot deeper than this in the future,

this is gonna lead to a brainchip implant...hooked up to the world wide mind network...your gonna love your Orwellian future...if you think this is cool

  • You're? Or punctuation or capitalization?

  • Comment removed

  • Wait, are you from the future?

  • 5 years, we'll be controlling our smart phones with mind control. Checking on the house, via the mobile web with mind control. It's going to open up a whole new world of experiences and possibilities. being able to control artificial limbs via mind control alone.

Flexible electronics. Nano machines. The futures frickin awesome.

    I love this sh*t!

When I'm an old man (31 now) I wont recognise the world.

  • Not impressed. Looks more like a video that stops and starts than a game. He's apparently not controlling direction or placement of the stones. So it's a game that could be played with one button. I have more nuanced control with my scrotum. Once they work in a directional controller with that button so one can play atari games, i'll buy two.

  • oh shit! i can't wait till this is out for a lot less and for fps games like counter strike. that would be so cool. throwing a flashbang with your mind or detecting enemy movements with just a thought of turning around and automatically aiming at the head lol

  • Seriously, we actualy got first gen mind interface with a computer and the first friggin thing you think about is counter strike, flashbangs and headshots.... man you got issues.

  • counter strike is awesome

  • one of the most popular first person shooters and you think our generation of computer dependent teenagers like me wouldn't think of something like that? and i'm the one who has issues. try using your head for once. it's just an online game so what the hell did it do to you?

  • There mere fact that you dont even get the point seems to give my point of view all the validity it'll ever need. Sad.

  • such "intelligent" words you use and yet you can't use proper grammar. Sad

  • From the person who cant even seem to figure out the fact that a sentence starts with capital letters. Ah well i have no interest in getting involved in a shit flinging match, I believe ive made my point so I wont be posting any further answers here.

  • i see that you have proven something. i don't think it's the "point" you're talking about but ok. i certainly hope you think next time before yelling at a random comment on the internet if you're just gonna back out of something you started yourself. consider this "shit flinging" match over. winner, well, that isn't really important.

  • This is no doubt the next-gen interface for gaming. I just wonder if the hand motions hes doing is required, as in maybe doing them help create a unique brainwave pattern that the headset picks up on...or could one move the stones sitting perfectly still. Based on the video, the response was a little lagging but im sure this will greatly improve over time. It will be so awesome to get precision movement in realtime with a future version of this thing.

  • Oh yeah, google up "NeuroDynamic Activator"

  • Couple this with a pROSHI, and you'll develope a super brain!

  • The helmet looks like a HEadcrab XD

  • where could you buy one of these?

  • lol if you suddenly think of a banana while

lifting a rock.. what will happen??

    XD

lol the game will all go ensane and try to figure out what a banana is XD

    joking just joking.

this is cool but is it affordable?

  • its 300 dollars

  • There is other companys that are making them for 150

  • Who is the other company?

  • company's like NueroSky and Emotiv, but emotive seems like it has a much nicer headset, with more electrodes etc

  • hahahhahhahahhahahhahhahha by the way its $300

  • the hand gestures are just a cue for himself, it helps him focus on the brainwave assigned to that task. if you have better focus then him then you will be faster at it, and have better results.

if im not mistaken this can be assigned to letters or words for typing, xbox 360 controllers, and even moving the mouse cursor..

  • Oh we're so sorry for you,we'll play your game you built from scratch you can play with your mind.Oh Wait a Minute, where is yours?!

  • Comment removed

  • it is very intersting did i metion AWSOME I CANT WAIT but how come he was so incredibly slow some please reply and tell me because if thats how its gonna be i would stick to the controller

  • I was one of the demo testers, it's great, I diddn't have to use my hands though, you just think, seriously, because movements have physical limits.

Expect to see this thing in future mainstream gaming.

  • Remember now, this was only a demo, so don't be disappointed or anything, and btw u don't need to move your arms or anything, the only reason this guy is doing it is because it helps him concentrate on what he is going to do with the object in the game.

  • Lol.

  • looks very tiring..man imagine playing an fps with that thing!! would be soo cool

  • lmao yes..google emotiv epoc and go on their website..

  • Wow, that looks fun. Star Wars will be freakin sweet on this thing.

  • That looks ridiculously difficult. Controllers and keyboards aren't going anywhere for a long time it seems.

  • Still, its a start.

  • He's just trying to make it look interesting and exciting I'm pretty sure it's not as hard as the guy is trying to make it look.

  • Wow, I haven't heard from emotiv in a long time now, no new videos, no news, nothing for a very very long time. It's kinda sad, like what if it doesn't come out around christmas like they promised.

  • you're not going to play Counter-Strike and stuff like that, that demands lots of skill and precision --' But what i dont understand is, if Emotiv is mind-controlled, why does the user make the movement? Illustrative purposes?

  • I think its because the EEG electrodes track the alpha and beta signals that are involved with movements. I think that in theory with mental practice it would be possible to have it lift without actually moving your arms.
