I just did a little bit of research on that, and laryngectomy patients can be taught to project their voices with their esophagus. I don't know if he is or not.
@jpsacrelige317 yes they can! my grandma's sister had the surgery in 1982. She was taught to talk by controlling air trough her esophagus. like talking while burping, if you will.
I think they placed something similar to a turkey call in his mouth... I never thought that I would say this, but... perhaps an electro larynx would sound better.
