  • prequel .

  • he makes the best films EVER!!!!!

  • He should have followed the original storyline. I felt like it built up to something really mind-blowing at the beginning of the film and then kind of dropped it's edge. I mean, he had all these cool but brilliantly made scenes during the first thirty minutes of the film; then, he didn't know how to finish it. He could have taken a whole different route with the storyline and I feel like I would have enjoyed it a lot better if he had.

  • Its a dramaturgical problem I think. He builds this great head of steam and you kinda sit there waiting for the plot to evolve into the heralded nazi-slaying or at least plot. But then great individual setpieces with little plot advancement take over. Characters abound and are abandoned. The direction first sensed does not recur until the very end. Its probably intended to be this patchwork of little universes and I still love the movie. But suspense-wise it loses breath and sags in the middle.

  • @whynottalklikeapirat Well, he could have made it into a much larger film...the general public just wouldn't have the patience for it, and a lot of folks didn't for the actual film. It's practically a graphic novel. I wouldn't say the suspense is ill-paced--just part of the story. I agree, it does almost advertise itself as a "nazi-slaying" piece and somewhat gives up the idea with some of it here and there, but that's because he needed to focus more on the characters and storyline....

  • @whynottalklikeapirat I believe the film has a very good plot--it's just very, very long, and only people with the patience and attention span that I have could watch the entire thing and not be bored. Besides, the fact that it's not merely "nazi-slaying" is actually a good thing. The film has surprising amount of subtext, symbols, and themes and I believe that's why the "nazi-slaying" is ditched in many scenes.

  • YAY! Prequel! Come on and bring it!!! Please don't lose interest! I loved the soundtrack, it made parts of the film.

  • @Hoppus217 This movie would have been awesome even if it had nothing to do with jews. As it is the movie is amazing and I loved it... and I'm not jewish.

  • @Hoppus217 Tarantino just made a movie that he wanted to make. Kill Bill and Pulp Fiction were just as successfull yet they had nothing to do with jews. You can't make a movie about WW2 without bringing up judaism and anti-semitism. And no Mel Gibson is textbook definition of a jackass

  • @ghostbuster323 agreed. and if you did make a WW2 movie without some Judaism it would be hailed as "holocaust denying propaganda," or some bullshit. And say what you want about Mel Gibsons beliefs, since that's all they are, but the man can direct a damn good movie.

  • @Hoppus217 I do agree to some extent, don't get me wrong, its the Mel Gibson line that made me laugh XD

  • @Hoppus217 ... HAHAHAAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA

  • please god make a sequel!

  • he's so interested in himself. he's his biggest fan...yuch

  • Quintin...what an awesome dude.

  • I love watching Tarantino talk about as much as I like watching his movies

  • Whudda cool guy.

  • I'm dyslexic and I've tried to watch and read this movie twice. I only got 2 hours in and gave up. Should I try a third time?

  • @Morrgore Yes, if only to prove to yourself that you can do it. As for the movie's merits, it's litterally the best screenplay I've ever read. I speak perfect french and english, so obviously it was a little easier for me, only having to read the german parts. But I think it's the kind of movie it would be worth it to pause on every frame and read. Truly a fantastic screenplay. And the movie gets better, and mostly funnier, with each viewing.

  • But Brad Pitt isn't actually even a good actor.. Tarantino has less looks, yet way more talent in him.

  • English, mother fucker, do you speak it!?

  • @breasthound it's spelled motherfucker in one word. English, do you speak it!?

  • @breasthound

English, motherfucker, do you speak it!?

thats from pulp fiction' also from tarantino. wat a legend!!!

  • best director ever!!

  • yeah right, and Hitler died in a Paris fire. The Pitt character sticks his finger in the female agent's bullet wound and in the next scene she's his theater date? And the nazis let a black dude live and work in occupied Paris just before Hitler died there? To this dude, characters come first, history fourth or fifth.

  • @vinegaroon1 The movie is fictional, If you don't like it don't watch it.

  • Straight to Brad Pitt... Brad Pitt didn't stand out! He was brilliant but Christoph Watlz took the limelight.

  • I find him very annoying...but suppose i find most directors annoying lol

  • i wanna know, what the fuck he's on!....

  • @908Diesel

    Life.

  • @908Diesel acid.

  • I would love it if he did a prequel. That movie was great. I can see how it would have been a mini-series instead. I never wanted it to end. I hope waltz is in it though.

  • had this movie came out a year before or this year, it would have won waaayy more academy awards

  • @rngr888 i agree, this year has been lame for movies, i can only think of 2 amazing films..inception and toy story 3

  • good interview

  • for me it was the real Oscar winner

  • tarantino seems really down to earth

a prequel of the basterds with pitt and roth would be the SHIT!!

  • @J3rryKo agreed

  • Legend!!!

  • @DCfreak87 i think if they did that they wouldve ruined the whole movie by using dumb stereotypes...

  • @DCfreak87 I'm so sorry for you.

  • @DCfreak87 that's the good stuff....

it's not supposed to be a typical ww2 movie

  • This movie was terrible. Yes, the Nazis were inglorious bastards, but the indulgent violence of this movie doesn't serve any real purpose. Indeed, the Holocaust well never be forgotten, as it was one of the most horrific tragedies that has ever taken place. And yes, the Nazis mercilessly took innocent lives. But does this fictitious role reversal truly help us move forward in remembrance of the Holocaust? I think Tarantino is a cinematic genius, but the message behind this movie is unacceptable.

  • @dstack

I wonder if that's the right way to look at this movie. I think it was about making fun of our own sick revenge fantasies, which basically lead the same way as nazism (even if those are the guys we are fighting). If anything, I think this movie proves that far too many people could easily slip into abandoning their humanity and repeat the holocaust (although maybe with another target than the jews).

If that is the true message, it's pretty bold.

  • @dstack Unacceptable? Get off your high horse will you!

  • @dstack

    1. This movie has nothing to do with the Holocaust...

    2. There is no indulgent violence, there was hardly any violence at all....

    3. Get off your high horse...

  • @dstack

    I totally 100% agree, man.

  • @dstack You sound like an extremely boring person.

  • another thing to add on to the last comment landa didn't like to be the "jew hunter" he liked finding people and he was good at it

  • A prequel... I think I came a little bit

  • @MonkeySpank100 I hope not. Seriously, what's up with you people and sequels and prequels? It ruins the originality of the first film. Leaving Inglourious Basterds the way it is shows that you respect it, because it is a very enjoyable as well as a very artistic work of filmography. Would you want a prequel to Platoon or FMJ? No, because it's unnecessary and messy. "Kill Bill 3! Inglourious Basterds prequel!" Tarantino's imagination is too big to just narrow it down to that.

  • Being a Nazi must have been an intoxicating madness.

  • Quentin Tarantino is a genius director! How he could write that film all by himself with very long scenes and didn't flaw once! My favourite filmmaker ever! :D

  • Okay I have a question: Why did Landa betray germany and the Third Reich. I watched the movie but I just don't understand it. Landa is called: The Jew Hunter in the movie, he kills like thousands of jews and he suddenly wants Aldo Raine to win. It confuses me why he did that

  • @Mclovin1484 No man, it's because at that time the allied forces were closing in on Nazi territories, the tension was high, a/w he stated it him self, as you can see he secretly felt the tension of things closing in plus the plot at hand so close to the vital peers of nazi regime a/w at the end what would await him would be a jewish tribunal... OBVIOUSLY ending as death penalty or worse for him , so he made a deal and set himself up safe and sound for the future under allied protection in return

  • you know, even if aldo raine's plan didn't work, the third reich still would have died because of shosanna's plan of burning down the threatre, maybe not hitler and that movie producer and his girlfriend since that dude who helped her didn't lock their door and another thing.

DId the basterds know who shosanna was the whole time, because when they were shooting up the place, they didn't seem surprised or confused that the threatre was burning

  • great interview, but the ending was vague. I mean quentin (a great director) is prefectly explaining how he made this movie and all the obstacles he faced just so the interviewer can say thanks for coming @ the end?

  • I gotta ask this question about the movie... If Col. Landa already has the plan to give up the Third Reich in return for Immunity of War Crimes and American Citizenship... Why does he kill Bridget von Hammersmark (The german actress)? What point did that serve?

  • yeah that part had me scratching my head.

  • well, blowing up Hitler and co. was her plan and Landa just couldn't have another renegade german taking the credit for stopping the Nazis because he explains that to get his citizenship and immunity of war crimes, he took credit for blowing up the theatre to kingdom come.

  • @coco23mademoiselle heyyyyyy, that makes perfect sense! If it was found that it was HER plan, then HE wouldn't get any credit for backstabbing the Third Reich. Excellent thinking! Thank you for clearifying that!

  • @Persadish

He didn't like her. Thats what I took from it.

  • @dantedraco no no no, its all good, 'coco23mademoiselle" answered it. He kills her because she would have taken the credit for taking down Hitler and the Third Reich, and he wouldn't have gotten his American Citizenship or Immunity of war crimes. Simply "not liking her" is not enough cause for a guy who's that composed, to kill someone.

  • @Persadish There's also the fact that she lies to him, and basically that he is a bit of a psycho. You can tell with the silences and direction when it comes to Landa that he's not insane, but he's a very dark horse. I think you're wrong in assuming he wouldn't just kill because he didn't like people, because his very nature and occupation is to kill people he doesn't know because they are the "enemy" - but you are right that it is probably mostly a question of credit ....

  • @Persadish ... It also seems that he may have thought she was responsible for the death of the German soldiers in the bar scene about fifteen minutes beforehand, which isn't entirely foolish as if you follow a very simple chaos theory, everyone's death in the underground bar can be attributed to the decisions of Bridget Von Hammersmark ... Sorry rant over :P

  • @GhostHack21 Your POV sounds good, but it doesn't quite go with the evidence given in the movie. Now, assume he kills Bridget because shes responsible for the death of the 7 (give or take) German soldiers in that bar... Why would those 7 matter, if his plan is to give up Hitler and allow the death of 300 German Soldiers in the Cinema? The logic and math doesn't quite work there.

  • @GhostHack21 Also, if he just killed people at random, why did he let the girl run away from the house when he had a clear shot at her in the feilds? She was a Jew, the "enemy", yet he had mercy on her... but not Bridget, a fellow German? It just doesnt work for me, know what I mean?

  • @Persadish

well she was probobly too far away for him to hit her with the gun he had at the time and probobly couldent be botherd to just chase after her thinking that she is just one young jew and probobly would have no were else to go and would be caught eventualy, but thats just my guess cos im wasnt entirely sure myself

  • @Persadish I don't think it was mercy, it's more that he thinks of jews as helpless mice and himself as a cat who plays with his victims/food. It's the feeling of absolute might with led some nazi doctors to do gruesome experiments out of boredom. I know it's not a historical movie but I think Landa in particular is a personification of the Nazis at the height of their power.

  • @Persadish As you see, he can be very charming and is highly eloquent which still doesn't stop him from doing his job without hesitence and even with pleasure.

  • revenge

  • 0:08-0:16

    huh... cute.

where the FUCK is the criticism?

  • he should def do a sequel, but about the paperclip Nazis. How those fu%$ers infiltrated NASA and created a parallel space program to take over the fu%$in world!!! LOL!!!.

  • maybe he'll do a movie of Palestinian civilians who have seen their families slaughtered fight back against the Israeli generals who look at them as sub-human and commit war crimes daily what do you reckon everyone or is that not politically correct?

  • the microphone distracts me a lot

  • what an awkward microphone

  • To Alex in the O.C., Did Quentin ever pay you for renting that yacht?

  • Tarantino don't make a prequel or a sequel, this movie was brilliant so why ruin it with sequels?

What I like about IB is the way there are no main characters like in normal movies, or should I say everyone is the main character. Sequels would take that away from the original.

  • eh... kill bill

  • Well, you can't really make a sequel lol but a prequel will be like the Matrix sequels, I am not expecting it to be as good as the first but it could be interesting. BUT DEAR GOD DON'T BE AS BAD AS THE MATRIX 2 AND 3.

  • @vitezjura

yeah, like skinnyBizzle said, he made a sequel to kill bill

  • BOMB ASS movie

  • finally some info on a possible prequel

  • Tarantino, dodgy looking dude, but what a legend.

  • Agreed!

  • @SoEffinBored15 he is brilliant

  • it's in my top 20 too, when you say killbill 3 do you mean the re-cut of 1&2 together or an entirely new part 3 film? also, what do you know about sin city 2?

  • Yeah, a kill bill 3 would not work for a number of reasons.

    1) Bill is dead.

    2) The story is over. It is not open ended and there are no loose ends. Adding to it would not work.

  • agreed, "the story is over" & there's nowhere to go unless Elle driver (while blind) is able to re-build an army of assasins & once again go after "the bride", plus.....there's always back story! more training with pei mei would be nice, lol

  • @Hamhark98

    ahhhh, but you forget

1.Elle Driver could fight as a blind warrior

2.She didn't kill Sofie and she still has one arm

3.The daughter of Verigta Green: Nicki, will probably want revenge on Beatrix for killing her mother

  • @Mclovin1484 Well of course there is always a way to make a movie but it would not be a good one. The entire point would be lost. Like making a sequal to the last Lor do the rings movie. No point. The story is done. Similarly to how Diseny made a sequal to Mulan. That movie sucked. Why? The story was over and what they used to make that film was some minor loose ends. You can't make a movie out of a few straws.

Move on. Kill Bill is done.

  • I think Brad Pitt is perfect for this role, because it is Hollywood's most famous celebrity with the following features: actor mediocre, uneducated and their success is due to its appearance (contrary position with Christoph Waltz)

  • @pepemark pitt has a little missouri drawl which is good. christopher waltz killed it though god

  • tu si que eres mediocre, indio, aprende a hablar ingles

  • Viste la película?

  • 2 veces

  • Quentin Tarantino is such a legend!! Inglourious Basterds is his best film since Pulp Fiction. They're both in my top 20 films of all time! :D

Wonder what Kill Bill 3 will be like and his film between KB3 and IB.

  • real talk! just watchd it yesday, blown away!

  • tarantino rocks. you can tell he really has fun creating his stories

  • nothing can ever beat pulp fiction

  • @paulinefranzen true

  • wonder why Quentin said "mate" in the ending there... straaange

  • coz hes alking to a british guy

  • @DalleKanelius von hammersmark says mate in the film

  • I definitely want to see a prequel to IB. It was a fantastic film. And a prequel would mean we see a hell alot more of the basterds probably. That would be awesome.

  • Why would we see MORE basterds? The way I saw it, the Basterds were formed in this movie... weren't they? So why would the be in the prequel?

  • the prequel could be after the basterds form and we get to see the havok they wreak upon the nazis which they didn't show much of.

  • yeah i guess... but i don't think thats enough to make a 2 and a half hour movie.

  • IB is definitely his best movie since Jackie Brown.

  • A prequel more Bastard related would be insanely good.

  • bastards is one of my favorite films...simply awesome...quentin has always been a bit of a wierd guy...still a VERY VERY talented director...hope a prequel or sequel comes along...this time more centered around the bastards

  • oh man a prequel to inglorious basterds would be amazing

  • Quentin Tarantino is the best.

He is the best director in the world.

    Good films:

    Kill Bill 1&2

    Pulp Fiction

    Inglorious Basterds

    Hell Ride...

  • He's fun!

  • @moore300 hell ride was gay

  • quentin is a geek hein?

  • DAMN, he should have made the 12h mini series!!

  • why do Quentin Tarantino has a face that look's like a shark?

  • maybe because his mum fucked a shark

  • cocaine probably

he looks like a devil in one of his movs

  • look whos talking,,, foget nuking japan, forget killing the red indians and not 2 forget the vetnamies--fucking bastards.

  • Wow, that's a really good idea because Edward Norton fits in perfectly with the Basterds.

  • There was and there is poeple that made things like that or worst in life. So doesn't matter if it's disgusting because it's a movie. Life have it all, history tell us what happen and a movie just want to entertain even if has to show some blood or a dark reallity. Don't search for a reason to speak ill of the film, just watch and be entertained.

    Sorry my english

  • Coked out of his gourd!

  • Great movie, period

  • it's a movie you doofus! when you go to the cinema you want to disconnect from your ordinary life, you want action, you want it to be unrealistic because it's entertaining. i think films like 'the pianist' and 'schwindler's list' are very good depictions of WWII, but every once in a while i want a movie that's not a tearjerker, that doesn't make me feel sad, i want a movie that is entertaining and that's what tarantino makes, if you don't like it then don't watch it!

  • Thanks for your nice wording.

Just an information: "Aus dem Deutschen Filmförderfonds erhielt Inglourious Basterds 6,8 Millionen Euro. Das Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg förderte mit 600.000 Euro die Produktion. Die Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung steuerte 300.000 Euro bei." (see wikipedia etc.)

In other words: QT has taken a lot of tax money to make a movie that ridicules millions of killed people. And that's disgusting.

  • ur dumb.

  • well fucking said

  • you guys all suck ass. sareeface you're totally right... i got your back.

  • this is a gr8 interview but i cannot stand the way tarantino's voice sounds all spitty and panty oh my god

  • Another choice could have been Viggo Mortensen. Every man presence with a small but capable ability to be funny.

  • Do those hideous purple microphones even work, or are they there for show? So distracting....

  • quit moaning. faggot.

  • who me? thx!

  • fuck you

  • I know I may be ostracized for this but I believe wholeheartedly that although he is one of the worst actors working today, Matthew McConaughey is and could have been Lt. Aldo Raines. Brad was sensational but Quentin was talking about he did not have a fall back guy and Matthew is really this character.

  • It may sound predictable, but I kind of thought Johnny Depp would've also made an excellent Raine. He doesn't have the tall, brawny presence that Pitt does, but he's got that natural charm and humor about him that would've worked just as well. That'd be my pick.

  • Fair enough but I respectfully disagree. Johnny bringing the power of a Nazi hunting bad ass. He could very well be a leader and could portray this character but he's not broad enough in the shoulders. I can picture his presence as being domineering but not having the every man presence required. Brad brings that and Matthew could have as well.

  • yes, a latin nazi.

  • he wasn't sensational, though, was he? :l

  • why? only because Matthew has a southern accent?!

  • Yes. Thats the only reason. Hes A list w/ a southern accent. Every horribe actor has one role they can define well. Matthew was great in Reign of Fire and could have been in this. He fits the part perfectly.

  • Well, I think Reign of Fire was a terrible movie... but, yea, he was good! And despite of what people say... I don´t think he´s a bad actor... I like him! I see what you mean and how he would have fit... but I don´t see Matthew being anything like the character... except the accent!

  • Oh I really would LOVE to see this story continue... or ya know... what happened before. I wanna see more of Donny, I wanna know more about him. The Bear Jew was my fave character in this movie.

  • tarantino is the best casting director

  • This guy is a genious!!!! I watched it yesterday!!! it is awesome!!!!!!

  • right thats why america has the highest standerd of living, and many other countries depend on us.were the strongest most well off country on the world.i live in california and its great tell what do you think is a better country

  • For the fourth year in a row, the United Nations has ranked Norway as having the highest standard of living in the world. Sweden, Australia and Canada are next in line, while the United States is further down the scale at #13. The annual ranking is based largely on average levels of education and income, combined with expected length of lifetime.

  • i dident remember commenting this video at all, as i dont rember trivial acts from three monthes ago.but as i finally discovered that ancient comment it dawned on me that your life must be so pathetic you waste time scrolling through pages of youtube comments

  • all the same

let me guess your from norway or somewhere in the uk?i guess this because you jackasses have a way of degrading evreything american.are you really so petty?the u.s. is the worlds strongest superpower hands down.why dont you send me links for any more "facts"you want to through around because im obviously not just going to belive you

  • I'm a US citizen you idiot. Don't get angry at someone who's just giving you factual information. Calm down.

  • Make a prequel Tarentino!!!!!!!!!!! This movie was amazing.

  • ... or just keep making movies :D

  • Taretino is an amazing director and movie writer! My favorite!!!

  • Point taken, but that goes for a lot of other countries as well. I certainly feel like my country(USA) has it's head up it's ass right now... Btw, cool that you're into parkour ;) Wanna maybe start myself.

  • Normally I hate prequels, but I'd really like to see a prequel for Inglourious Basterds. You don't get to see too much of the Basterds themselves and there seems to be some great characters there that can be expanded upon quite a bit more.

  • yea, i woulda liked more of the basterds. and to see how aldo raine got "chewed out before" and their mlitary histories would be fun

  • Quentin Tarantino should definitely work with Christian Bale in the future, Christian Bale is one of my favorite actors and Quentin Tarantino is my favorite writier/director. It would be a dream to see them both work on a film together, I think Christian could do an amazing job as a Tarantino character.
