after watching your video I thought that the pathogenesis of enphysema and cirrosis in a1AT are the same but they aren't. in the liver it's more like an accumulation disease where the cells are killed from the inside e/o where some complex mecchanism convinces them to do autophagocytosis. in
addition this video doesn't show anything more than cirrhosis. with a PAS stain there should be diagnostic cytoplasmatic inclusions. otherwise how can you say that this is due to a1AT-deficit ?
I want to tell you this - no where is it written in stone that YOU will develope emphysema.
If you take care of yourself and never smoke, there's a good chance. Plus, the BEST thing for YOU is that you already know that you have A1AD. Even if you you start having symptoms of emphysema, you can begin infusion therapy to slow or stop the progression. I didn't find out until I had severe emphysema. I was 40. I'm 43 now.
I have Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency. Even had an operation due to lung damage in the left lung. I fine now though, and haven't had any problems for a long time.

Interesting. I was A1AT (carrier) and had a TX last year. Strangly no lung damage.
Thanks for posting.
