  • The SSC has half the engin and KICKS it's ass!!

  • to tell you the truth i think a 4.0 inline 6 cylinder is one of the most smoothest engines out there

  • wow man. w16 ftw

  • V16?

  • @dan10024 v16 would make a v shape with the pistons. this is more like a w shape. hence why they call it w16.

  • V = how many cylinders are in the engine so this is a v16

  • @death16839 V is a cylinder placement... its not the ammount of cylinders.. Porshces 911 has a FLAT 6 cyl engine. they dont call it V6. same here. its a joined V8 making it a W16

  • @ghosthunter2006 in line 6 cylinder :) or straight 6

  • @MrRshelp4u some call it a flat 6. )

  • PISTÕES

  • even my asshole looks better

  • what if that bitch has a misfire lol u gotta check all 16 cylinders lol blowwn

  • What an awesome animation, excellent job!

  • imagine having to work on that bitch

  • Unless its got 2 crankshafts its not a W.

  • @TheAussiestralian "H" engine has 2 crankshafts, "W" has only 1 Crankshaft

  • this isn't a W engine goddammit

this is a V16 you moron

a W engine is 2 V engines next to each other

  • @Trollface369 are you on drugs?? of course this is a w type engine i would know im a mechanic

  • @Trollface369 Agreed!

  • this is hardcore

  • its like the engine in my mower...

  • its got to have CRAZY horsepower!

  • piston orgy?

  • wth is going on here?? lol looks awesome

  • o.O

  • Eye crach d mah boosgadafi forum gron turesm and ifs ad de chap need a faakenn game shork or more credirs

  • @tallblondesexy you are wrong. the info you posted is incorrect.

  • this graph is incorrect, the veyron has a W16. it is 2 BMW V8's side by side. hence the W. what do ytou get if you put to V's together? V+V=VV wich equals W

  • @yamahabanshee350 someone who likes engineering, like me.

  • Will it fit in my saturn?

  • @TopRamenKickAss will it blend?

  • A crazy idea that works!

  • who needs 16 cyl win i can get 2jz with just as much power and way cheaper

  • @yamahabanshee350 the W16 motor only cost abour 16K dollars and it features 2 twin turbo V8's. please how me a 1,000hp 2JZGTE that makes the same power for 16k or less? last time i checked my buddies single turbo conversion on his '93 supra was 6K alone and it was only making 700rwhp. it now has easily 40K in the motor alone

  • it looks like the arms at the back of the engine are longer..is that true?

  • THERE'S PISTONS FUCKING EVERYWHERE!!

  • 16400ccm?????Oo

  • wrong, bugatti has two v8 engines welded together (not literally but you know wt i mean) and uses the twov8's in a w shape layout

  • @xPiiNGUx Wrong. Bugatti uses 16 cylinders in one engine with one crankshaft. Each cylinder bank uses two rows of cylinders that are offset from each other to save on total engine length and weight. Look on wikipedia for the page on w16 engines. You can read all about them there. The Veyron engine is at the top of the page on the right.

  • @xPiiNGUx Actually you're wrong , this really is the W16 shape and design. When they say its 2 V8s together, they dont mean there are 2 crankshafts, they just mean it looks like two V8 on the same crankshaft if u look from the side.

  • @911mastermind did i even say it had two cranks, no i mean it has them on the same crank but more spread appart.

  • @xPiiNGUx still wrong, its not far apart.... its i think 15 degrees apart if i remember correctly....could be a little more or less...

topgear and other show people talk of it as 2 v8s to sound cool and to make it simple for the average viewer....

Otherwise this really is the design of the buggati engine.......u can check from buggati website if u want....

  • @xPiiNGUx

Bullshit.... Go to Google and look at the Bugatti engine in ultra high resolution. Is it 2 engines put together ? Hell no. its just a silly myth.

  • @xPiiNGUx wrong. This video is correct. No car manufacturer "welds engines together" :D The W16 is similar to VW W8 and W12.

  • @xPiiNGUx actually your wrong the engine isnt really shaped like a w meat head

  • @xPiiNGUx No, you're wrong. It's much like the W12 in the Bentley Continental and Volkswagen Phaeton. Which would be more similar to two Volkswagen VR6 motors put together. This is essentially what would amount to two VR8 (if they existed) motors together on one crankshaft.

  • @drevol500 Gosh, finally a guy who understands anything from engines... The W16 engine is more likely to be two VR8 engines together than V8. But some people can't think at all. :)

  • @drevol500 vw did make a w8 for the passat for a couple years, it didnt make great power and was being overtaken by more efficient (in power making and emmisions) 4 cyl and 6 cyl di engines.

  • The I in "I-4" means it is a straight 4 engine. V8 means that there are 2 rows of 4 cylinders making 8 in total. And I think that w16 means that there are 2 rows of two rows.

  • its not like that ...its a w16 cyl not a v16cyl

  • @architoxx30 LOL.. I suggest you watch the video again, There are four banks of four cylinders rather than two banks of 8 . That IS a W16.

  • Thats so crazy! Blowing my mind.

  • wow so it actually has 16 cylinders! wow thats amazing.

  • uhm can some1 tell me the fire order?

  • this is 14 cylinders

  • @ALmaKKawi02 count again, 8 on each side, 8+8 =? sure as hell not 14

  • @sacr3 yes yes u r right... sorry my fault

    thank u for explaining

  • 16 Zylindern!!

  • y el orden de encendido?? alguien responda por favor!!!

  • I think it might be called "w" 16 because of the way the piston's are lined up, makes a W shape.

  • @cameron947 bravooooooo.... that was a world mystery and you solved it... you recognized it`a W16 !! bravoooo...

  • @tibby499 You don't have to be such a fucking ass about it, I was just trying to answer questions people had. Fuckin prick.

  • @cameron947 i didn`t mean to insult you or anything like that.... but it says in the title of the video "Bugatti Veyron W16 drawn and simulated in Autodesk Inventor" and if they didn`t see from the title, or worse, from the video that it was a W16... sorry.. peace

  • @tibby499 Ok, sorry for blowing up at you then. I am way more into diesel then gas vehicle's so I didn't know that's what the "W" meant in W-16. So that's why I said that.

  • @cameron947 no prob. :) i should be sayin sorry...

  • Why are the piston top's slanted? Help with suction of intake?

  • @cameron947 The reason the tops are slanted is with the angle on the pistons being offset would make it so that the top of the piston would only reach the top of the cylinder on one side if the block is decked on a single plane. The only way to correct this is either deck the block on two angles which could be a real pain in the ass to machine or cut the pistons on an angle. Just imagine the block angle across the top of each cylinder bank and you'll see what I'm talking about.

  • the piston is not 90 horizontal? lol?

  • The valve train must almost be a rube-goldberg contraption. No wonder VW doesn't use the W-block they invented much.

  • the timing.... the TIMING!!!!!!!!

  • cluster fuck

  • Must be HEAVY!! lol

  • wooow, its art in motion.

    nice, very nice

  • 8 cylinders on one side that is beast!!!!

  • Nerdy people have an orgasm

  • y does it look like a v and they call it a w ? fucking jermans

  • so you put 4 gti's together and you got a veyron ;)

  • Can someone explain the firing order? lol

  • @ItsMrWinters

    1-14-9-4-7-12-15-6-13-8-3-16-11-2-5-10

  • @MrDrewb3 i don't think so, if thats true then thats crazy but unbalanced

  • @ItsMrWinters Its on the bugatti website. Im not smart enough to just calculate it. hehe

  • err....its W16 not V16...its pretty much two twin turbo 4l V8's next to each other in the veyron, hence the engine shape code "W" not V"

  • whats the science behind not keep on the cylinder head or pistons? why are they off like 20 degree on one side?

btw.. can i please have the drawing of the piston?

  • @guicapone2 By staggering the pistons on each bank of 8 the engine can be much more compact. Think of a V-6 compared to an inline 6. This is like taking a V-16 and folding it again, hence W-16.

  • always wondered how they did the w16, the more you know

  • people... get it through your heads... SUPER CARS SUCK... they are under powered and over priced. buy a sporty car, do a bunch of work on it or even pay some one to do it and it will b at or past super car level for half of the price... which is at least $50K

  • soooo....manyyy.... pistons

  • That to me doesn't look like a W16. It looks like a V8 with two banks of cylinders on each side

  • @moossee32 essentially, that's what a W16 is; two V8s that share the same crankshaft, but are slightly off center. Both have the same V angle...amazing technology.

  • подклинивает малость

  • more because more seems to be the idea behind this.

  • @Nelso90 thanks that sounds awesome !!!! :-)

  • Holy crap lol, I love Inventor. How did it take you to sketch and animate?

  • I wonder if they made a W8 if it would be really compact compared to a V8?

  • @joshuago8

They did, search Passat W8. And it is very compact!

  • @joshuago8

they have it's all VW w8 was an option in the passat

  • hmm so this is what chuck norris's heart looks like...

  • Cool wa und ich hab was mit denn Motoren zu tun! Secret

  • if you look at one side of the engine block you can see the piston heads alignment forming a W =)))))

  • je video is aardig vaak bekeken lennart :P

  • it isnt reall a W engine... just a staggered V16.....

  • w is for 4 rows equals 4x 4Cylindre

  • @schosal123 W is for three rows. This is a V plus a V that they call a W because V V sounds silly.

  • what does the w srand for

  • how is that a w?

  • Holy shit.

  • My brain just exploded....

  • @crichton55 cmon man im 14 years old and i know how it works..

  • @akinorhan5 As do i. I've just never seen an animation like this before. What guy age 14 to 20 these days doesn't know how engines work?

  • @crichton55 I know guys who do not know what an engine cylinder lol there didn't see ever a engine animation there just playing black op games mmorpg chating on msn facebook twitter wtf is that life there are just freaks and i made self my v6 engine in school its a little engine the size is like sandwich :D l study metalworking my friends din't not ever see an engine lol there just looking for a outlook of a car -__-

  • @akinorhan5 Yes, well, your assessment of people these days is sadly accurate. Seems like all they care about is xbox360 games and camping on black ops. I do play mmorpg's occasionally, but I'm not absorbed with them. I like cars as well and I love to see how things work, so needless to say I know how a car works somewhat. You made a mini v6 engine, you said? I'd like to see something like that :)

  • @crichton55 we have a little cnc machine on fathers workship he repairs and usescnc machines and makes model engines for litle rc cars i made my v6 engine with my father i didn't say i made my v6 engine self i made it with my father im playing mmoprg to runescape if my father whas not with me i didn't make a v6 engine self look its not a v6 engine but its a v12 engine watch?v=mutb7KgA9NM&feature=fvwrel

  • @crichton55 A lot. You'd be surprised. I know some guys who have badass cars and don't even know what a spark plug is or what an air filter is. It's sad.

  • What are the lighting style and the mterials? Are they included in Inventor defaults? Thx!!

  • so many cylinders...

  • all 16 cylinders ignite at different times???? how the fuck does this idle at a low rpm????

  • @blockinater V16's were around in the '30's and '40's, it isn't rocket science. Cadillac and Lincoln flathead V12's idle at around 450 RPM with carburetors and point-type ignition

  • @RossABQ v16 is is 2 straight 8s joined at the crank the w16 is 2 v8s joined much more difficult due to timing and balancing and that it has 4 turbos

  • I wonder if the engine is reliable, I'm guessing it is, but would like to hear from real world experience.

  • @KevinCalendula Well, let's see... VW's are chronically unreliable, but mostly electrically (thank Bosch). This has 4x the ignition and EFI complexity of the 1.8T's. I don't think they found enough buyers that you could get statistical data, but you can guess...

  • @KevinCalendula

Well, The Veyron was introduced 4 years ago, and since then, nobody didn't have any kind of mechanical or electrical problem. The engine is made to handle a minimum of 300 000 km in extreme conditions. There are some preproduction models with 170 000 km on it's clock and without any mechanical or electrical problem.

  • @KevinCalendula

The gearbox is made by Ricardo, rather than Borg-Wargner who designed the six speed DSG used in other VW models. Preproduction test models completed 200 consecutive full-throttle launches without any kind of problem. So, it's rock solid.

  • Comment removed

  • as a mater of fact yea you could tell if you lost a cylinder

  • veyron is unique, but i dun like it.

this engine is unique, but i hate it.

basicly redneck-ish way to "bolt" to engines into 1.

problem is, "half" of this engine can produce over 600 hp, and now 2 of them kaes 1K hp.

    DO NOT WANT IT.

btw.. 1K hp.. bah.. nowdays diesels can do that whit a simple v8...

  • my '84 volkswagen can do better than this..

  • Take half a damned weekend just to put rings on the thing...

  • @Warblade118 1 day then! lol

  • takes 16 cylinders and 4 turbochargers to get 1000hp id expect more for anything over a million.

  • @Storm7289 also takes half the cylinders and turbos in the ssc ultimate aero to make more power for half the price

  • @chopper82p I thought the ultimate aero was a third of the veyrons cost. haha

  • @Storm7289 yeah i mena naturally aspirated v8s can produce that if made and tuned properly

  • not really a W its a V16, now a Napier Lion is a W12, that looks more W'uy

  • @Zer0kbps The W refers to the staggered cylinders in each bank. Instead of them all being in a line, like a typical V setup. The staggered cylinders allow for a slightly more compact engine, front to back.

  • Actual its a V-VR engine no idea how VW thinks it's a W engine. a W engine has three Cylinder Banks not only two. (yes the Bugatti Veyron W16.4 has a VW Engine)

In Mechanik Schoolbooks is writen, that a VR engine is a row engine with shifted Cylinders and a V-VR engine are "2 VR" engines in a angle of ca. 60 degrees also licke a V. also is a V8 like two 4 Cylinders row engine built together, the same is with VR and V-VR.

  • W 16 LOL ..it is V16

  • @Palenta111 It''s definitely a W engine. If it were a V, the pistons would be 2 rows of pistons. The pistons on this engine are in 4 rows. It's a W.

  • @Palenta111

    It's not a V, it's a W

  • @3DPeter Actual its a V-VR engine no idea how VW thinks it's a W engine. a W engine has three Cylinder Banks not only two.

  • I just realized that it is like a radial sorta cankshaft...whatever the proper name be lol

  • looks like a fury of pistons XD

  • THIS IS TWO VOLKSWAGEN W8 Engines Put Together !-.

  • i would hate to time that engine

  • @92VTECCivic thumb's up m8 :) sorry I missed that :(

  • DUDE I ALWAYS THOUGHT THAT IT WAS A W 16... INSTEAD OF A V16 WITH TWO SEPARATE CRANK SHAFTS N EVERYTHING... HMMM... I WONDER IF THAT'S POSSIBLE...

  • @f0k069 WTFRU talking about? It is a W 16. Two very narrow angle V8s on a common crank. What did you think W16 meant? What are you talking about 2 separate crankshafts? There's only one crank. They could have done it with 2, but this is better.

  • @f0k069 it is this guy's just an idiot

  • @GarrettKeetley I could argue that I keep hearing about people who make 1000 horsepower supras by themselves with half the cylinders and they're probably lighter, not to mention cheaper. But I'm not in the mood to get dragged into one of those week long arguments that take up comment pages, lol. VW does make great stock engines though, as long as you arent the mechanic working on them.

  • @JSnyder49428 the supra's engine will overheat faster. plus u can blow up and engine with a turbo. stock>mods.

  • @lancerfan1991 thats true... you'd be re-building the engine every other race.. you might also melt your block since they're mostly aluminum...

  • Wow, back then you could take a 1968 Hemi Charger off the show room floor and run around 9 seconds, the Veyron runs 10.1, so it take 16 cylinders and 4 turbos to get to that? That's weak, and if you really want to compare, look at the go cart death traps Bugatti passed off as a "car" in 1968.

  • @chevyman5436 You're comparing apples to oranges, the Hemi was never designed to pass the 250 mph barrier, and the Veyron was never designed as a drag oriented car... On the other hand a slightly modified 98 TT Supra would burn the two mentioned cars in a drag. I'm not hating American cars since I also love them but they serve a different purpose...

  • @ianpaulc exactly.

  • to me that's a v16? 8 pistons either side in a v shaped engine.

  • V8s are old, specially the American ones, they make such an awful clunk. European BMW Audi etc make beautiful V8s that are civilized at low speeds, however roar when you need them to. Ever heard a BMW X5 4.8is, thats a beautiful V8, and the sound they make are 10 times better than a clunky American Block. Plus have you ever heard a W16 in Action? You probably haven't and well, it is a completely different sound. The sound of pure power. Something out of this world. We shouldn't be going backward

  • @supermgm are you high? does a 4.8 v8 make the same torque as a big block or small block v8? no i does not you must not enjoy muscle cars at all.

  • ОЛОЛО!!!!!!! W16 Рулед!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • That must've been one of the most amazing engineering feats of all time.

It freaks me out though. It just looks so foreign! I'll take my 400 V8 any day... Even if I'd loose...

  • thumbs up if your tired of people saying "thumbs up if ---------"

  • looks like my Toyota Camry's engine. Not Joking

  • @tracer052495 LOL

  • @JSnyder49428 thumbs up if you're sick of people bitching about other people simply for liking a car

  • @JSnyder49428 they also will never even come close to owning one either haha...

  • @JSnyder49428 stop hatin on the buggati nd quit with the thumbs up crap... its jus lame

  • @MaestroMajeFoX I'm not hating on the Bugatti Veyron, the Veyron is an excellent car. I'm hating on the people that worship it and think it's the unsurpassable epitome of the automotive world, which it's obviously not.

  • the firing sequence is a work of art itself

  • 16 cylinders, thing probably runs smoother than butter.

  • @imsgoalie I would rather listen to the rough idle of a cammed V-8

  • @shmeag

To each his own, I say. Performance/$ you can't beat an simple American v8 engine.

When you have that many cylinders it doesn't even sound like an engine anymore, just sort of a mechanical hum. I'd bet you can't feel the motor idling in the driver seat either.

  • @imsgoalie AMERICAN CARS ARE TOTAL CRAP SERIOUSLY

  • @johnshredder1 right and how many mods do u need to make the same HP as a stock ls1?

  • @bamfan2044

Europe and Japan have smaller engines with that power, or using forced induction and make more power and torque, and than make cars more reliable.

Euro diesels are best MPG cars in the world even for same power, best supercars, and lots of other things. Displacement is root of power, but technology gives better advantages if we talking about normal street cars in range 200-500 bhp. If we talking about racing, other rules.

  • @2jzgtejza80 im saying without forced induction those cars are not good for much but your daily driver. i do agree that euro diesels are very good because they burn much cleaner the regular gas engine cars

  • @imsgoalie

Ok, I understand when Americans in America say that V8s are best, but in Europe, American V8's can't even pass EURO 3 norms from 1994 or EURO 4 from 2001 or 2002, and what we are talking about. BMW producing engines with same or more power and lots of torque for 2 or even 3 times less exhaust emissions. You see, we have huge 6.2 liter (380CUI ) diesel engine from Audi that gets great fuel economy (19-21 city, 28-35 highway in heavy SUV applications) and still can reach 186mph.

  • @2jzgtejza80

I don't think American V8's are the best at all. I'm just saying, from an aesthetic perspective, I get why a lot of guys over here like them. They do have a certain classic charm to them, and they're cheap and durable.

Old push-rod V8's are obviously not a viable option for mass production cars moving into the future, for the reasons you highlight. But I can dig em.

  • I can see how it works, but as a qualified mechanic why? What advantage a W16, 12 or 8 has over say, an R4 or R18 or R28. Even looking at inlines and V's. Small block Chev V8 was a revolution for years from 1955 Not forgetting aviation technology with R7 or R9 per row, This gives such marvels as the twin row Pratt and Whitneys as well as Wrights, R2000 14 Cyl, R2800 18 Cyl as well as the R4360 28 cylinder. Sizing back to 8, 10 or 12 litres is practical. Oh Europe over enginered still.
