@mrfox831 Go for it! The principles of learning are the same no matter what species you're teaching. Karen Pryor has taught a fish to swim through a hoop and a hermit crab to ring a bell, so I'm sure you could teach your chameleon tricks. A good book to read is "Don't Shoot the Dog" by Karen Pryor. (It's not about dogs!)
@cmoore1608 thanks i have that book i said to my grandma it probably boring but now you told me that it wasnt..... but i dont have a chameleon yet but when my snake learns a trick learns send you a vid response on it doing its trick
Aw, I love your parrot! What a sweetheart ~ and so smart!
I saw two baby Black-headed Parrots in a pet shop ~ they were so sweet and playful.. Do you think this species is relatively easy to handle? Or at least suitable for beginners?
@jojobee42 Caiques are, in my experience, relatively easy to handle, but they can give wicked bites and can be loud if they want to be. They are quite independent, bold, and headstrong, so it's important to have a good working knowledge of positive training techniques before bringing one home. A great first book to read is "Getting Started: Clicker Training for Birds" by Melinda Johnson.
@QueenSmileyFace1 I used clicker training. You can learn about it by subscribing to the Bird-Click Yahoo Group or reading the book Getting Started: Clicker Training for Birds. It is an amazing way to bond with your parrot and teach them fun and useful behaviors.
No if this was MY bird, things would be different. First, he'd throw the piggy bank off the table and then laugh about it. He'd do the same for the coins if they were out. My bird's insane lol
@EmporerFelix Look into clicker training! There's a great Yahoo Group called Bird-Click that can help you get started, or you can buy the book Getting Started: Clicker Training for Birds.

I usually use banana chips or walnuts broken into tiny pieces (as small as I can get them). Every bird has different taste, so try offering your bird several different treats on a flat surface and see what he goes for first, second, and third. Find his favorite and use it only for training.
HE KNOWS SOMETHING WE DONT ABOUT THAT COIN, ITS POSSESED!

@ScrapsDoggeh She is a caique parrot. They're similar in size to conures, but heavier and have short tails and bigger feet and beaks.

rachael2122 2 years ago
I bought it at a craft store. I think it's intended for people to decorate. I also bought the wooden "coins" there.

Great bird and great job of training. He seems to enjoy doing the trick, which is great.
Caiques are wonderful.
You might enjoy the videos of my Grey Cheeked parakeets.

Awesome. I love your caiques! I just uploaded a vid of Stewie doing this trick. He expects a treat for each and every coin though! :)

Fantastic! Now you just need to teach him how to take out the trash.

Excellent! I use "the bird school", Clickertraing by Ann Castro to train my budgies. Maybe they can learn this trick eventually....
