  • How To Sing The High Notes - 3 Tips

    See it here!

  • Do all your fans a favor and get a mic that doesn't clip on your face-melting high notes. It would sound fantastic if you had a good mic/camera, I am certain.

  • Callate Gordo!!. Sobredosis de sanguches, dedicate a gritar como marica!!

Shut up Fatso!!. Sandwiches overdose, dedicate to scream like a sissy!!

  • 1. im not a teacher or vocal coach

    2. ive never studied the method you speak about , but..my vocal coaches from 14 years ago, told me what i said here.

    3. he is belting it out and needs to not do this if he wants to last. when he's singing, he should have very little breathe coming out of his mouth , he shouldnt even be able to blow out a candle from it.

    4. toms jones is cool

  • @Taralhoko - he's a ROCK singer! We belt notes - A LOT. Get over it, move on.

  • ANYMOREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!

  • what a dick.

  • when you are not screaming you are a decent signer... STOP THE FCKING SCREAMING... IT sounds BAD!!

  • @GINOFALUS - sounds bad to you. One man's scream is another man's belt.

  • @RocktheStageNYC - this is beyond "belting". "Belting" is NOT about volume but resonance.

  • @RocktheStageNYC Why are you responding to my post? You blocked me from commenting on your page when I made a harmless joke... you Remove All negative comments from your site.. which I find Pathetic ....... You have zero credibility as a Youtuber.. This is screaming not a belt... Its all throat and is not pleasing to the ear......... He is a good singer but when he screams out songs hes just promoting him self as a gimmick rather than a singer

  • @GINOFALUS - Firstly I do not delete all negative posts from my channel - ONLY stupid, inane and senselessly negative comments get deleted. If someone makes a negative comment based on a rational or uninformed point of view I answer it head on and try to correct it. I'm here to help singers not boost my ego.

Secondly - You spam comments to boost your own channel views and that alone you got banned from my channel. I'm not here to help you boost your ego.

  • @RocktheStageNYC Stupid and inane is subjective I suppose.. I asked every one to give me pointers on my song cuz I made a ton of mistakes .. yes it was ego driven but at least I admit it... Singing is about ego and wanting to be noticed and appreciated... I was not expecting any one to gush.. but give me input about my mistakes which many people did.... dont slide take better breaths etc... I still maintain removing comments is chicken shit and makes you look like a salesman

  • @GINOFALUS - again I only remove stupid, childish and just outright harsh comments. If someone makes a comment that is based on say on a personal vocal pedagogy basis, an uninformed viewpoint or simply ignorance I reply and try to get to the heart of the matter and find out why they feel that way. Singing is NOT about ego or getting noticed - not for me nor any other serious singer I've ever known. We sing because we love to sing. Period. Maybe its that way for you and that's too bad.

  • @GINOFALUS - Stupid and inane is NOT subjective when someone comments - "he looks like Dave Murray". That's just stupid and has nothing to do with my videos or my channel.

OK this IS subjective - I think leaving every nasty, stupid and childish comment on your channel makes you look like a weak little boy who doesn't care if people step all over you. I'm sorry but that ain't me. I am of the very few coaches on here who actually reads and comments back on their own channel every damn day.

  • @RocktheStageNYC Who said he looked like Dave Murray? I think you are lumping me in with a bunch of people. Being a good singer is about getting noticed obviously. I am sorry if this sounds harsh or untrue. You sing for an audience and if the audience likes it you feel good. All the great singers of all time have said this. I do not see it being a bad thing. If it were not for an audience there would be no performance. I think you would agree that singing is about connecting.

  • @GINOFALUS The word Ego can be taken so many ways. When I say Ego I mean the desire to be good at what you do and have people enjoy your singing... Josh Groban practiced because he wanted to sound good because he wanted to share his voice with others. This is Ego. Perhaps it can be taken as a negative when it gets out of hand or there is a perception of some one begging for approval in a very obvious way. I did ask for you to look at my video...............

  • @GINOFALUS .... I only asked you to look at my video because your RocktheStgeNYC ended up on my page some how asking me to subscribe( which is fine) What I have done in the past is ask people to trade one video watch for subscribe and a bad or good comment. I did not realize when I asked you this it was something you did not do. I am not sure if you calling me a weak little boy is your way of getting your "troops" to rally against me. Why are you wasting your time responding to me?

  • @GINOFALUS - What you describe about Josh Groban is not ego - that's personal ambition. Ego is when ambition becomes selfish or self-centered and start believing you are more than you really are. Is ego important for an artist? Sure. But it can't be you're sole motivation. Otherwise you only end up a "stuffed shirt" as my father used to say. No substance.

You'll find more ego driven people in the movie biz than in music.

  • @GINOFALUS - Agreed singing about connecting - emotionally with the song and the listener. BUT it should not be about ego. Yes it feels great to have 15,000 South Koreans chanting "Yeah Yeah YeahYeah Yeah!" along with you (happened to me in '96) but I wasn't up there for anything other than the joy of music. Maybe I'm the odd man out but music for me is not about getting noticed personally - only the band as a whole.

People leaves comments on my channel about looking like Dave Murray. Annoying.

  • @RocktheStageNYC Very well put. :)

  • @RocktheStageNYC Again Very well put. You make very excellent points.

  • that was jus awsome..

  • he's singing with metal technique. mix voice, grunt etc

its not a sweet tom jones version. so see it for what it is...

    and its fucking good!

  • great voce,relaxe

  • This is not singing. It's parolees raping the masters. Those prison showers may get you the soprano D6 but they will not a singer make.

  • well, listen to my advise...you need to get a mic and some kareoke tracks, lame you might think, however, your singing to loud, there should be barley any air coming out of your mouth, remember, singing is sustained speach, just like talking, its how you form your vocal chords that create the pitch. your adams aple should not move, it should stay where it is while talking normal. also, try tipping your head down, chin to chest when singing those high notes..stay away from tom jones type music

  • @scripteaze - oh brother another Speech Level Singing fanatic.

    1. Singing is elongated speech not sustained.

    2. Your larynx is allowed to move. In fact is HAS to in order to create certain tonalities. It also moves when we speak so its perfectly OK to move when we sing (just not too much).

    3. Tom Jones belts a lot of this song. Especially the G#4 "money notes"

    4. Chin to chest head position inhibits tone production

    5. hats wrong with Tom Jones?

  • Comment removed

  • You've just shit all over tom jones.

    p.s. You're a prick

  • just not a good singer.

  • I love how you can go from Tom Jones to Sebastian Bach. Nice appreciation of great singers.

Tom Jones is a master at belting at around A4/B5

  • b5? :D:D That sure could be nice to hear :D Highest I have heard from Tom is Chills and Fever live version(several D5s)

  • @Goblonaut a- correction - actually meant A4-B4

  • how do you hit the low notes and then the high notes without falsetto?!!

  • @WilsonGuitar - its called "vocal cord adduction" or compression.

  • its like a poet narating delilah

  • YOU NEED A BETTER MICROPHONE DUDE. you spell it like that? well you need one of those that are better. or you need to LOWER THE GAIN ON THE ONE U GOT :P

  • sorry dude!

  • Nice job. Now if you'll try and use proper support continually through out the whole song, you won't have to yell and shout all of time. Otherwise you'll never have dynamics to sing softly and loudly. Also, you won't have to force your vibrato with exaggeration, it causes you to sound flat and sharp, to much pressure on your vocal cords. Use more forward resonance with a nasal release and you'll get plenty of volume and carrying power without expending so much energy and forcing your tones.

  • Bull. You HAVE to use support to "yell" powerfully in the fashion he is doing it. And the rest you are talking about is simply visualizations and doesn't really make any anatomical sense

  • Unfortunately your wrong! He is using TOO much energy to sing that song, he's yelling , not singing, so he is forcing his tones and over singing. Proper carrying power(loudness) comes from correct resonance, and not forcing your breath which does not allow your vocal folds to adjust efficiently. Delilah is not that difficult of a song to sing, yet he is expending a lot more energy than is necessary it correctly. He will never learn proper vocal dynamics, and will eventually hurt his voice!

  • Again: bull. "Yelling" is simply a mode that you can utilize on certain vowels. MOST great singers use it, and don't wreck their voices. Tom Jones uses it a LOT. Some vocal schools call this a "siren". However, you can dial it down and make it sound less "shouty", which is perhaps what you in part are talking about, but that's a stylistic choice. There is no forcing of breath here, quite the opposite. And what does "correct resonance" mean? Resonance is resonance, perhaps you mean open throat.

  • quathar:

I tried to respond to you, however, I was either blocked or erased. So I will go and post somewhere else and direct you to that site. In any case look up yelling and shouting on the net, all knowledgeable singers understand it's wrong!

  • Whaddya mean? You just replied now...

Yelling is sometimes said to be "pulled chestvoice" which is an extremely wierd term (which chestvoice is aswell, since it is anatomically incorrect), and not to do with the yelling I'm talking about, which is called "overdrive" in CVT terminology. You can hurt yourself if you do not have an open throat and thus have constrictions, but that goes for all singing, not just "shouting".

  • That was my second post, my first one didn't do through and it was long. I'll check with Jon to see what happened. I might try again, or I will email you direct.

  • Arythmnmaker1 is correct. Jon IS over singing here and using WAY too much breath. Tom Jones' notes sound effortless because he is using resonance - he's not "pushing" his notes with lots of air like Jon. You can tell because when Jon goes up in range his voice gets louder and distorts his camera mic. If he used proper support and placement throughout the volume would stay consistent no matter what note he sang. High notes DON'T take a lot of air, neither does screaming if don't correctly.

  • Wrong, distortion has nothing to do with pushing MORE air out, quite the opposite. Distortion needs more support than regular notes usually.

  • Maybe its subjective to each person but for me distortion needs no more support than any other note. Distortion/rasp/grit for me comes from contraction or from vibrating the soft palette. I can scream all night like Brian Johnson of AC/DC and never fatigue. It's like a vocal trill. Dio does vocal trills. Only really high, high notes needs a little more support than chesty notes or a "power push" which comes from the muscles below your stomach.

  • I should clarify this by saying I meant "support" as in "airflow control" not volume. Distortion is the decay of sound so altering your airflow can produce distortion - not pushing. Sorry, I shouldm have been clearer on that.

  • It seems that you have learned from "Raise Your Voice" by Jaime Vendera. Is that right?

  • I have read his book but I don't really follow his isolation method.

  • Oh, you just seemed very informed regarding vocal technique. Are there any books or programs you recommend checking?

  • Depends on what genre you sing - more Pop goe for Brett Manning's course - more metal or hard rock go for either Jamie Vendera or Robert Lunte. A great book to start with that applies to all singers is Mark Baxter's "Rock n Roll Singer Survival Manual" - great and sound advice. It was the first singing book I bought many years ago and learned a lot from it.

  • @quathar - actually Jon is forcing a lot of air in the vocal tract here. A tad too much. He could dial it down a bit and NOT lose the power. Power comes from finesse not force.

  • @RocktheStageNYC that´s it! Daiandrah

  • @RocktheStageNYC - sorry, I forgot to add: you are right in saying, power doesn´t com from force. He has got a great voice, but uses it with too much pressure and volume. But I know about this problem - I did the same for a long long time and nearly gave up, because it took so much energy. B.T.W.: your channel is GREAT! Daiandrah

  • @RocktheStageNYC So what is it? A lot, or a tad too much? I agree that it can be sung a lot better, utilizing more resonance, which almost always means less air, and a less "shouty" tone.

  • @Arythmnmaker1 - well you're partially correct. Power comes from resonance but it also comes from solid, targeted support from the diaphragm. When you "press" air against the cords with solid support you get "breath compression" where to cords thicken in response to the onrush of air. That compression thicken the cords and you get a a powerful sound. Thats what Tom JOnes does here.

Look at my comment below under "RareMusicVideos_ (that was my old channel). I agree with you. He's over singing.

  • @RocktheStageNYC

Hello Jon, How is it going? Much continued success!

Hi Kevin, I apologize for the delay in getting back to you on this. I believe we will have to agree to disagree on power production. My ideas can best demonstrated by listening and watching the duet of Delilah between Luciano Pavarotti and Tom Jones. It is easy to see the effortlessness of Maestro in comparison to Mr. Jones, and the major difference of a superior vocal technique as opposed to a very good technique. This ...

  • ALL notes require support. "Yelling" or "Belting" as its called, is simply extending chest notes into the head voice range. A "mixed voice" so to speak. Paul Stanley of KISS and Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden are really good at using a mixed voice.

  • Nice job, it's not an easy song to sing.

  • Dude, I'm sorry, but no matter how much of a great singer you are, wearing black shades won't make you rock as long as you have to wear a sweater to cover your manboobs.

  • Oh my, Space Ghost...What big lungs you have!

  • good. just learn the lyrics now.

  • Very nice Jon...Glad to hear the newer stuff. Hey...Ever hear of Midnight from Crimson Glory? If you have, do me a kindness and nail some of his stuff....One of Metals all time best if ya ask me.
