  • This song will always make me cry from now on.. Expresses my current feelings perfectly

  • If it says Tim Minchin, I click on it!

  • See, I didn't find that funny!! But in a good way! Makes me wanna meet a girl who'll grow on me that way!

  • the replay button just got raped.

  • this needs to be the 1st dance of a pair of doctors :p

  • This song made me realise how much I love my girlfriend

  • I like how the crowd laugh at first, then simmer down as they realise the song does have serious undertones!

  • This has got to be the most realistic love song ever. Its not all soppy, its true. Sometimes you don't want to be in love with that person. But you are, and you can't live without them, he works it into the song so well.

  • im in love with tim minchin :) i hate his wife because she means i cant marry him :LL jk, she's awesome, well i assume she is, as he obviously loves her very much, and he's sooo amazing. i love him :D <3 <3 <3 <3

  • beautiful

  • I'm a 15 year old straight male and i tear up EVERY. TIME. I . HEAR. THIS. SONG!

  • @treehugger99999 gay .... :P

  • @guitarandsingingdude

    Suck it.

  • @treehugger99999 lol treehugger...

  • He's. So. SO. Beautiful.

  • very much like drowned, perhaps bi-polar-but isnt it boring any other way?

  • There is no other musician alive that can portray such pure beauty in a piece of music as Tim Minchin. The genius blend of humour, pain, relatability and beauty combine to form something which is just mesmerizing...

A truly fantastic musician. Nay, a truly fantastic man.

  • This song is truly touching..like most of tim minchin's songs, beneath the veneer of comedic lyrics, there' s a heart-warming and deep meaning behind it :)

  • Pure Tim Minchin...juxtaposing outright wierd comparisons with beautiful and deep meaning :P

I mean "You are wedged inside my breast...if I tried to pull you out now, I might bleed to death..."

    that is just..heartwarming :P

from some of the lyrics you kinda get the impression that the singer knows he needs to leave his wife....or something. "should have cut you out when you were benign" right?

  • @Rohan2300 Uh, not really. I suppose that's a possible interpretation, but the previous lines - "Now I’m afraid there’s no cure for me/No dose of emotional chemotherapy/Can halt my pathetic decline" suggest that he's falling further and further into the affliction that is love.

  • @Equihan lol, agreed, but the question is whether he -wants- it...:P

  • @Rohan2300 Who doesn't want love? :P I doubt this singer needs to leave his wife.

  • @Rohan2300 when I say singer, I sorta meant the character in the song :P I'm sure Tim Minchin is happy with his wife ^_^

  • @Rohan2300 The rational part of him knows that the relationship makes him pathetic and vulnerable, but he also knows that it is too late to "fix" it.

  • @Equihan he says it himself, it often creeps up on you when you least expect it, and often when you don't really want it. it could easily be an unrequited love, for example

  • @Rohan2300 I reckon it's more like, if you left earlier, I wouldn't be so attached, so it's like he's saying if he cut her out early, then he wouldn't be in love, I dunno, that's how I got it.

  • Comment removed

  • @Rohan2300 No he doesn't...The 'benign' bit is just another way of saying when he didn't have feelings for her, but now as you said she is 'Wedged inside his breast' meaning he's in love with her and shes like a part of her and he couldnt bear it if she left him :) i think its so inexplicably tender and heartwarming behind the comedic lyrics :) x

  • @5dramagirl5 heh, I dunno, there's a definate feeling that the character in the song is in love with his wife, but at the same time in some way regrets it...

absolutely agree though, Tim has a knack for packing deeper meaning behind the funny lyrics :P

the bit with "now I can't feel my legs" made me laugh out loud XD

  • anyone else think the last picture was really sexy?

  • @InFlameProductions Ooh la la, no :)

  • is it wrong that this song gives me tears?

  • i absolutely adore this song!

  • Genius...pure genius, loving the metaphor usage lol

  • Tim didn't grow on me like a tumor. It was like BAM, and then I loved him.

  • @MiNiMiNiMuNdAy suck it up, you whiney poontang.

  • yawn

  • great stuff.

  • i love his funny stuff but he actually has a really nice voice and could write amazing songs if he wanted to be serious. i genuinely got goosebumps at the armour/poison arrow bit. <3

  • That is a beautiful, complex, intricate, fantastical harmonic progression... En Par with that of Satie, Rach, or Wagner.... Amazing. ^_^

  • Just spent 2 hours looking for this song really doesn't disappoint

  • that was ..yeah it was a beautiful song

  • My boyfriend was my best friend he grew on me like a tumor

  • Clever, beautiful and funny. If only he was a woman.

  • @PinkFloydFan74 you could just become gay and buttfuck him?

  • @DazzaFromTheMcCrew Haven't you listened to Ten Foot Cock and a Few Hundred Virgins? God don't go fo' dat shit dawg.

  • I think it's funny how at first the audience is laughing all the time, but then as the song progresses, they don't laugh as much. Even when he repeats some of the first verse near the end of the song.

Uploader: I too love that note at 4:30 *W* <3

And o course the song as a whole.

He doesn't have the like.. OMG FUCKING BEST VOCALS EVAR, but firstly, his lyrics are amazing, and 2ndly, you don't need the best vocals to sing a really fucking good song and to get people to feel emotions and shit.

  • @TheKarret All that aside, I think he really does have good vocals; his singing is really pleasant and I love listening to him.

  • @toomuchxstereo agreed.

  • @toomuchxstereo Aye, tru dat. ;u; <3

  • I feel this way for my girlfriend. Is that bad? I mean, at the start of our relationship, I didn't know how long it could last, even though I think she's adorable. I just sort of thought it would fade out for us. Here we are, though, nine months later. I wouldn't say I regret it, but I realize that it can't be forever, and that hurts. I don't know, I think I'm glad that I left her untreated. E>

  • Three words.

    I'd. Tap. That.

and then I'd get pissed beside him everyday and be very glad to know him in general because he's the most awesome comedian/singer/songwriter in the history of comedy. (:

  • fuckin love this song its sooo funny an sooo true he has an amasing voice i have fallen in love with it. and him an his amazing humour aswell haha i just watched him on the telly doin his live show the BF wasnt keen but i ran upstairs on every ad sayin omg he is so funny an amasing lol love u tim xxxxx

  • I feel bad for the 12 people that dislike this video. Tim Minchin is a lyrical genious. This is by far my favorite song hes ever written. Its sweet and beautiful in a dark way. But he makes it so light hearted and wonderful, I dont know how you do it Tim. Everytime i listen to this song i shed a tear. I dont know. Its just compelling in its own way.

  • Minchin is carrying on Monty Python's musical tradition of being far more clever than you think at first. Difference being that Minchin is a much better musician! 8)

  • a lovely song with bad metaphors

  • Absolutely adore this record, a love song at its very best, want his for my wedding with my beautiful wife to be. either this or 'nothing can stop us now'. thanks for the upload

  • the drowned song is from a film called two fists one heart.

  • This song is hilariously tragic.

  • The pure beauty <3

  • Tim Minchin has this way of creating music!! Making it touching like this son and the christmas song. Making a song as funny as funny like all his other songs! he's an awesome comedian/ song writer!

  • this is the type of love me and my guy have

  • I love Tim Minchin and this is one of my favorite songs of his!

  • this song is pretty amazing - a wonderfully messed up love song. and much much closer to the way things often really are than the hollywood b/s of love at first sight - which can really only ever be lust. love has a nasty habit of popping up when you didn't want or need it, and, contrary to popular opinion, is not enough to guarantee a happy ending.

  • This song is AWESOME.. I honestly think this is my favourite one of his songs :) It's weird that is can be so sweet and talk about all this stuff (: Definitely his cleverest song.

  • ...How messed up is it to think this a really sweet love song? XD Cause I kinda do...

  • I love this song. Although the lyrics don't seem very romantic, coupled with the music and Tim Minchin's amazing voice it becomes one of the best loves songs I have heard. Original and very beautiful... This song brings tears to my eyes everytime I hear it. Tim Minchin is a very underrated comedian in my view.

  • @TraumaticDramatic so true, I consider it a love song. Even though I was a bit sad when I first heard it cause my dad only just died from skin cancer.. still his voice does melt you and I agree with you, the best love song of all time.

  • EXCELLENT SONG!

brings back painful memories but cheers me up at the same time! I love how much emotion he puts into his work.

  • His eyes are like deep blue pools (y) (:

  • hes such an inspiration.

  • one of the best songs lyrically, it doesnt need to be funny with amazing lyrics like that, and thank god he didnt make it that funny :)

  • this is actually amazingly sweet. i asked my bf if i grew on him or if he loved me at first sight. he replied that his first sight of me was of my hungover-scary hair-slept in makeup state stumbling down his sister's stairs begging for tea.....so i'm more inclined to think i grew on him. love grows. clever tim!!!!!! he rocks!!!!!!!!!!!

  • so true ^^ love this song .. i meen you have to be honest really ^^

  • so funny this is great

  • Tim Minchin, you absolute LEGEND :)

  • That's a high Bb...he's a hell of a tenor and a hell of a singer. I love this man.

  • Where ever i look now, all i see is you :-)

  • I love how he can make such Beautiful songs and still be funny :)

He should of played that at his wedding!

  • I Muchly Agree <3 Hes The Coolest.xox

  • i love this song...and drowned...they're bipolar or something. The music is so beautiful, but the lyrics are kind of comedic, and they combine to create something so deep that I have listened to both of those songs time and time again and still don't feel like I've reached the bottom of them.

  • Its silly, but so beautiful aswell.

  • I love the line "The successful removal of you would probably kill me too"

Tim Minchin is an absolute genius.

  • i love the faces he pulls in the vid, i really would to get to know him (not sure his wife would like it tho lol)

  • 4:03 to 4:20 is epic. by epic I actually mean epic, and not the popularised sence that epic is often used in.

  • 4:29 WOW! his voice keeps amazing me...

Very beautiful love song, even with all the deceases:)

His voice, the music itself and the text, wow.

  • his voice is amazing :)

  • 3:18 is BEAUTIFUL <3

  • this is a suprisingly romantic song - i love it!!!

  • this is a really good love song

    its seriou and also funny!

    frikin great

  • i dont believe in love at first sight, what i do believe in.. is LUST at first sight.. helll yeah

  • bloody hate that saying. it's dumb.

  • This is going to be my wedding song.

  • I would totally do that. It would also be what I say whenever she says "I love you"

  • @kisstheguns621 Best wedding song...ever.

  • @kisstheguns621 was just thinking the same thing, lol

  • no it won't

  • I don't know why people glorify "love at first sight" so much. To me, it seems really shallow because all you know about that person is how they look. Love is more lasting when a person grows on you and you actually know things about that special person.

  • something tells me this song is a response to If I Didn't Have you... I'd Probably Have Someone Else

  • I believe he wrote this before If I Didn't Have You

  • probably, it just seems like a sort of "oops, better write a nice song now!" kinda song :)

  • i love tim his genius piano playing and his amazing lyrics!"when we first met you seemed fickel and shallow but my armer was no match for you poison arrow"!

  • I am actually in love with this song right now. I've searched for the version with 4:28 in it. Its so gorgeous.

Plus, if he had written it for me I would pretty much cry of happiness (': I would be so touched.

  • at 4:30 his voice picks up, its brilliant.

  • I think of it as one of his more serious songs, despite his signature synical twist. Still one of his best, though.

  • Love it!

I like how he takes love and other things and makes them funny by twisting them with a serious subject. Quite genius I think. He is so realistic aswell. I love him <33

  • hes actually a realy gd musician and hes quite funny aswell

  • At 1:46 that piece of music is great. Builds up the song well.

  • He's so brilliant, a good example of the fact that conventionally attractive people are usually not the people with the best voices... He is attractive, but because of who he is, not because hes some plastic ideal

  • This song is quite, quite true I think. Its weird when people actually believe in "Love at first sight"

  • the first intro is completely right. there was this this girl... meh, the rest of this song is pretty right too.

  • It sounds kinda creepy lol

  • This may be a bold statement but I think that lyrically this is Tim Minchin's cleverest effort. It's such a brilliantly crafted song on every level.

  • pretty song

  • Comment removed

  • 4:30 sounds so beautiful, reminds me of procal harum

    he's a genius!

  • I cannot express my love for tim minchin in words. He's incredible. the way he writes comedic songs like this, but are actually really meaningful and beauiful in a 'tears of a clown' kind of way. words escape me...

  • I agree! When I try to tell people how great he is, my words dont do him justice; I have to settle with "Just Youtube him for God's sake...." Amazing, amazing guy.

  • I know the feeling! they dont understand even when they do listen to him gahh people!

  • same (Y)

  • He's funny and sincere at the same time, I cannot figure out how anyone can do this without losing credibility...

    Amazing.

  • completely agree.

  • brilliant guy. genius.

  • @22ForeStreet its easy, three words: " take my wife "

  • Well done , Cool vid

  • Thanks.

  • I'd love this to be about me. It's beautiful.

I always think of my boyfriend when I hear this.

Im stuck now forever with this tunnel vision

    My periphery is screwed

Wherever I look now, all I see is you.

    It's exactly right.

  • those are some beautiful pictures!

  • Oh 4:30 sends shivers down my spine!

  • lol, I just told my girlfriend this was "our" song....She was not pleased....

  • @skywalker541 haha no way my boyfriend told me the exact same thing last week!! i think its nice in a weird kinda way lol =] Tims a legend..

  • perhaps u 2 should hook up

  • I would have been SO pleased if it were me, this song is super sweet.

  • she obviously doesn't understand. i'd be thrilled!

  • The love for Tim crept up on me last Sunday within the length of the show played on E4... not very creepy uppy!!! About an hour and half!

  • omg i saw this live i love this song =DDD

  • Drowned is a regular song of Minchin's.

  • (L)

  • i love his songs, but i recon it would be better if he wrote normal songs aswell becuase they'd be amazing

  • he does "not Perfect" is about as close as you get

  • @madhatt3r1990 "I really like christmas"

  • (It's called "White Wine in the Sun".) He's also written a lovely semi-serious song called "Drowned", and did a whole album of more 'serious' songs called "Sit".

  • @Equihan the Band were called Timmy the Dog :)

  • @o0dominator0o Uh huh. It was Tim, his bro, and a couple of others.

  • He does write "normal" songs. They're really good.

  • seems like he will be writing "normal " songs as he is writing the musical for the book "Matilda".. cant wait cos it will be awesome!

  • Tim is wasted on a crappy book like Matilda. Woulda been nice if he was doing a more Minchin like book, but whatever.

  • This is such a clever song - and beautiful too :) Go Tim :P

  • i love tim minchin, he is a genius XD

  • I've met him twice ;].

  • think he will make it over to the US?

  • He's been there already - you've missed him, I'm afraid.

  • Well he should come back! maybe next year after his Brit/Aus tour

  • I daresay he will. :)

  • omfg i love this guy so much :D hes so serious about his work which is what makes it so amazing :L

  • only tim minchin could compare love to cancer lol

  • and get away with it haha.

  • saw him sunday. I spazzed out like shit he's amazing

  • seen him 2 nites ago lol amazing show

  • I'M GOING TO SEE HIM NEXT WEEK :). yeah, be jealous.

  • I don't need to, I saw him at the end of September :D

  • *being jealous* =(

  • Already saw him at the end of september... but i'm still jealous =( i want to see him again!!!

  • i saw him on september the 9th i met him and touched his hair! hahaha i gave him a cuddle too :P

  • yeh. but I'VE MET HIM!! :) be even more jealous :)

  • :O I am jealous :O Yoove met him omg.. im REALLY jealous lol xx

  • thats awesome.....

  • That long note o.o

    Goosebumps.

    Tim is incredible <3

  • Clever and true. Good review of a long term relationship.

  • Thi sguy is a genius, i met him at the weekend, thoroughly nice bloke as well!

  • That note at 4:30 is just... i mean WOW! That's my favorite bit of this song... and I LOVE this song!! Go Tim! x

  • I love Tim minchin.. but I just realised

"I picked you up like a virus, like meningococcal meningitis" .. Meningococcal disease is caused by Neisseria meningiditis ... a bacterium, not virus :(

Damn science degree ruining everything. Still, awesome song :D
