  • I finally got the crackle finish completed on this painting and I know I show it in another video....but which one? LOL!

I painted some acrylic paint mixed with some water over the crackle finish and it came out really well. I think I made it a brownish color...who can remember these things?

  • I did a similar effect on some pottery I did at college :)

  • Steve, thank you, honey pot, for your lovely comment on my Crackle video! And the rating, too!

YT is chockablock full of fabulous How To videos. I have been taking painting and art lessons here for months and learning new tricks on my Mac, etc etc. It's a great place to search for videos....biggest problem on YT is getting addicted! :D

  • Very cool!

  • many thanks!

  • I like simple method, wet brushes and work on canvas. Funny round moves make beautiful effects.

  • Grosse Idee ! Klasse !! Danke. P.

  • thanks

  • Very pretty :)

  • Thank you, Rocky! BTW...have you entered the latest pet video contest? The judges haven't started watching the videos yet, but I am trying to make a mental note of who is in it so far, and I don't remember seeing your Rockybird.

  • I should enter the Rocky bath video. My latest one. How do I enter it?

  • I love crackling myself Deb. Your painting looks awesome so far! Very pretty.

  • Thank you, BBB. There is still a lot of work to do on that one yet, but thanks!

  • thanks for that deb :)

  • How's my sweet and super busy Pogo? Love you, hon. Enjoy life in LA and doing the Sony gig. One day I hope to see one of your performances live! :D

  • I've used crackle on crafts where i've painted wood. I love the effect and it's always fun choosing the color underneath that will show up once the top layer crackles. Thanks for this video Deb, it's very informative!

  • I will say one thing.. your very talented. :]

I would KILL to be an artist. I used to LOVE drawing, painting, etc.. until just last semester in my school where I got a "artist" overload... && suddenly people LOVED my work so much that I was drawing 24/7... now i pretty much am sick of it. its quite sad, but I'm not sure what to do... Now I take photography. I suppose that's my calling.

I have a bunch of my photos on this one website, but I haven't updated my recent ones. :]

    ~Punkie~

  • Jericka,I can certainly understand the 'burnout' effect. Most of us have gone thru periods of this at one point or another in our chosen careers. I assume this happens to everyone anyhow....not sure.

If you haven't yet hooked up with Suziblutube, check her out. She is very inspirational.

Also, CheekyChen is involved in a new website called Tailcast for artists, writers and photographers. YAY!

  • why thank you for your 2 cents :]

    i'll check them out. ^-^

    ~Punkie~

  • That's very cool...thank you for doing this! Is that your frog in the background? Looks way cool!! Can you post a pic of that?

    -dave

  • Dave, I added Zhaba (that frog) to my Not Another Frog video. He's not finished yet. Incredible as it may seem, I started him 2 years ago and he's STILL not done!

    Do well, sweet Dave!

  • Hey Deb. Excellently Educational (that sounds weird but you know what I mean)

    MMMmmm Valspar!

  • So Buffy Marmalade...how are things in Stinkwater? LOL

  • try using alkyd-based paint over acryllic-based paint...takes some practise, but ones you got the feeling for it you don't have to buy this ready-made product

  • Thanks so much for answering my email! You are a real honey!

Yes, I think I was using Alkyd paints last year. I thought they were a combination of alkyd and oil, but like you said...they don't mix. I loved using the Alkyds because they dry super fast compared to the oils.

  • nice vid Deb...very interesting

  • Thank you, DD.

  • i like that frog on your wall :D

    ~Punkie~

  • Thanks, Punkie. That frog painting is still incomplete. I had a Name the Frog contest for him last year in my eBay artist groups and the winning name was Zhaba. Which means Frog in another language....and I can't even remember which language!

The hat he is wearing is based on the one that I was wearing in the Pet Video Contest #10. Look familiar?

  • ohh yeah! baha that's KUTE! :]

    ~Punkie~

  • really good!!

  • Whazzup, Taylor! :D

  • This was an interesting video! :D

  • Thank you, Alex. And good going on your 100 day challenge!

  • Anni, can you imagine how much fun that would be?? xoxoxoxoxoxoxox

  • Oooooo i want to come and spend a day rummaging around your art room... and having fun :P ... very interesting effect! Does Petunia like it?

  • King, you can rummage in here all you want!

As for Petunia, I don't know. She has been busy working on her next script and isn't giving me much time or attention.

  • Hugs to you, too, Joey!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • nice!

  • Thank you, Summy.

  • thanx for that !

  • Albertina, thank you for commenting!

  • Thanx Deb

We live and learn . Does the crackle leave a rough texture to the touch ?

  • CS, yes it is a bit rough. You can even use sandpaper to remove more bits of it, too. It is an interesting effect.

  • Interesting effect Deb.

We'll have to wait to see if you DO put another colour over the crackle...;)

  • RaY...Langblank says that if I use Alkyd paints over the acrylic, it will crack without the crackle. He should know...he does murals.

  • cool, thanks for sending

  • Rae, thank you for your sweet comment.

  • thank you for sending :)

  • thanks for sharing one of your secrets to making your paintings so fun and unique Deb. you are so at ease with the camera and the process, are you a teacher? good one sweetie!

i look forward to seeing the finished product.

  • Thank you, K! No, I'm not a teacher...just

speak very slowly and always have.

  • Snap krackel pop. Cool ideas.

  • Thanks, Chap!

  • This is a very interesting and informative video...Thanks Deb, I am going to try it.

  • YAY! I hope you will make a video of it when you try it out.

  • cool!!! does crackle work on oil paints

  • CS...hhhmmmnnn. I doubt it. But I will try an experiment on one of my old oil paintings one of these days and I'll let you know what happens, okay?

  • HI, Thank you for taking the time to give us info about cracking techniques. I coudn't find Tascha's cracking video, I want to see that one too. I did one (but different cracking technique)a couple of weeks ago.

    Great video.

    Adri

  • OMG!!!! Adri, I am SO sorry! I see now that it was your video that I was talking about. I could have sworn it was Tascha's video. Well, I misspelled her name anyhow. Next time I will check my references on these matters.

I remember watching your video about 2 days after I had bought my Crackle stuff and I thought...why didn't I see that video before? But you had just made it. Where did you buy that Crackle that you used?

    Again...I'm very sorry!!!

  • Don't worry please I take it as a compliment because I love Tascha. I bought mine at Hobby Lobby and they also has it at cheapjoes(dot)com "DecoArt One-Step Crackle" it is so cheap, just $1.19 a bottle. I love your new painting!

    Love

    Adri♥♥♥

  • Adri...thanks for being understanding. I have a bad case of HalfHeimers setting in on me and the adventures in Debland get more confusing every day.

Whoa! $1.19 a bottle IS a great price. No Hobby Lobby here, and the postage from Cheap Joe's would have probably cost me more than the product.

Anyhow, your crackle video is wonderful! I love how that painting came out....beautiful!!

  • michaels is a tad expensive on a bunch of things.

  • Gish...how true, how true! Fortunately, we have a small art supply business here in town where you can become a member for $10 a year and they have these discounts of 40-50% on brushes, canvases, etc at least once a month. I haven't yet checked there to see if they have the one step crackle yet, but I seriously doubt it.

  • That's pretty cool! It would be interesting to see what kind of weird images show up in it.

  • Nik....congrats on your recent graduation! You have a good eye!

  • Thanks a lot! Nice to see you're watchin :)

  • I have never. ever. ever painted over black. I recently bought black gesso too cause I want to.

    great video mama!

  • Suz! I am addicted to black paint. I use it a lot in my work. Really like black and white images a lot. Thanks so much, toots!

  • Thanks for taking the time to share your knowlege with us!!!I am learning a lot from you! thanks a lot!

  • Thank you, Ariel!!! Keep your brushes wet with that kitchen art. :D

  • Way cool how-to-do!!

  • YAY, Kaz! xoxoxoxoxox

  • Nice technique, well explained! :) Jack

  • Thanks, Jack. Keep those auto vids coming!

  • Very interesting to anyone who likes to varnish.

  • A great technique.

  • Absolutely beautiful painting, and a very helpful video Deb. Thanks so much for sharing! Love your studio too! 5 stars from me babe! Didn't know about the irridescents not working with crackle. I'll keep that in my note book!

  • Sweet pea! I thought you would be watching David and David on American Idol tonite!

The iridescents will work on the bottom layer, but not on the top. They just won't crackle, but they do look cool on the bottom layer. Love ya, baby!
