  • A is where its at!

Same tones, but a slightly sharper attack. Dig it...

  • Klon sounds warmer and kinda meaty while the lovepedal is more punchy and a little crunchier.

  • I preferred B almost every single time except for on the neck position with the hum-buckers. B was definitely brighter. Both pedals sounded incredibly similar though, no denying it

  • buy wat sounds good to your ears, if people hate to listen to what they are hearing you play, change pedals

  • i like the B

  • Until Andy played the strat I couldn't make a decison. I think the B comparison is something that will cut through the mix well. Check out the JHS Klone JT45 video. The Klon Klone sounds superb through Marshall Amps. Although they sound great through Fender amps they shine through Marshalls.

  • I think A has a more compressed sound which is a little bit brighter, and B is richer and fatter. I love both though

  • @12345l6789 I agree, the A pedal was slightly brighter and more defined. B was a little fatter and creamier.

  • Wow! Actually liked the lovepedal more... It had more low end.

  • They do sound really similar, but honestly I don't think either one sounds THAT good. The Klon certainly doesn't sound a thousand dollars good, whichever one it was.

  • I just noticed Andy's Magic Sam influence....if you like Andy's playing, please check out Magic Sam , who is a genius bluesman.

  • B. was the Centaur I would have to say and A. was the Kalamazoo. I like the B just a little more because of the fat round tone.

  • Needs more Politician.

  • Klon Centaur is the same thing!!! (don't waist money on the same stuff)

  • Comment removed

  • A is a little less dirty and compressed.

B was a little dirtier and some slight compression.

    I prefer A personally...more clarity.

So Andy, what is the scoop lol?

  • Those 2 are so close.. but on the strat B really feel like the tubes of the amp were on 10, not as much with the A, but the color is the same. I hope we'll know someday lol..

  • I'm guessing Klon is B, KZoo is A - there's just a smidge of telltale Lovepedal-style compression. It's that "sag" thing Sean's somehow so good at replicating w/ pedals, but the Klon doesn't have it. I would imagine those who are big fans of sag would be relieved to find out they prefer the pedal that DOESN'T cost a grand;)

... Now to go find out if I'm right lol

  • They're almost identical, even in 480p, but I liked B a little better.

  • I liked A

  • I liked A. B sounded a bit throaty.

  • I think I liked contender "A"

  • what pick ups are in the les paul?

  • This is still my favorite video from PGS. I love the comparing of two sounds like this. Cool idea.

  • While hard for me to tell through this digital medium my preference here was pedal "B" ...what ever that was but it was close.

  • forget about klon! ...I'd rather gain more stuff for extar $500

  • @proguitarshopdemos has Andy ever done voice work for television stations, or anything else?

  • @brooklynstudio - Not really, other than filling in for David Attenborough on some BBC nature programs a few times.

  • @ProGuitarShopDemos Awesome!!!!

  • I like the lovepedal...the klon actually sounded like it had too much high end.

  • There's literally NO difference on sound on that strat on low gain setting hahahahaha, subtle difference on that LP and strat on high gain setting though, kalamazoo sounds fatter.

  • B :D

  • B is obviously a little fatter. Pretty sure it's the Kalamazoo. But A seems to stay out of the muddy waters on the low end a bit more.

I would like to hear these pedals in real life. Sometimes recordings can give you the impression that the sound almost identical. But when you play them in real life, they sound more different.

  • I'd like to see a showdown between the Kalamazoo and and the ibanez sound tank tube screamer.

  • The KLON is in cloning process my side of the globe poke me for more!

  • I like contender B.

Both sound very, very similar though.

  • The low gain with single-coils, Contender A sounded better. Contender B sounded better everywhere else and, quite obviously, gets my vote.

  • Haha Who is the guy in drag holding the "Round 1" sign? Lol

  • kalamazoo at 18v?Is it possible without problem?

  • So I didn't look to see who won, they are very close... amazing since they are not the same circuit. I felt "A" was more open, with less fizz. Off to the next video to see if A is the Lovepedal... I sure hope it is... I don't want to have to save for a used centaur.

  • Very close, but "B" gets my pick.

  • I like contender "B" sounds bigger warmer

  • B is little more fat but both great!!! Very coooll!! Thx!

  • Have you a band Andy?

  • what did you have the knobs on?

  • I can't choose. In fact, until the final single note, higher gain comparison I heard no difference at all. B seemed to have just a slight touch less treble which is easily remedied with a tone nudge. Nice comparison test.

I'm becoming a big fan of the Love pedals and will most likely buy one as soon as I sell off a few older pedals.

  • What settings are you using on the lovepedal with the Les Paul???

  • i find it funny that these pedals were not intended to clone one another, but instead their totally different circut wise but yet they sound identicle!!!!

  • 2:07 ... name of song???

  • They are super freakin close.

  • i bet he's not even changin the pedal just 2 screw with us

  • I like B

  • This is F'n awesome. You have to do more of these. IE the Retro sonic CE-1 vs the Roland CE-1 and the whole Japan Boss Vs Taiwan Boss. I'm so sick of people pretending to hear differences in pedals that aren't there. You guys kick so much glutes for doing this.

  • I like A more. Now gone for the "Who's who" to see which pedal is my favorite...

  • I like pedal "A" a little better, but it wouldn't be worth any price difference if that were the sound I was going for. Each one is really nice!

  • Great A-B. I can't tell the difference and I'm a Klon owner/fan from way back. Good to see a test that skips the myth and sticks to the tone. Klons are great, but

    I'd play Lovepedal happily.

Fyi, my Klons have been reliable for years and I wouldn't part with them.

  • If there wasn't something telling me when you switched, I probably wouldn't have noticed.

But A is is definitely clearer and more transparent. I can tell the difference but I can't choose.

  • con. B for me. Just very well rounded and even shaping to it.

  • Pedal A IMO.

  • I'm not sure if this has been said yet but I'd like to point out that most people who own Klons run them as clean boost or really low overdrive, not as a heavy overdrive. It's important to remember that is the ideal setting for it when comparing them since I believe the Kalazmazoo's ideal setting is a medium gain to medium high gain setting.

  • Both are excellent. Of course i'm talking about pedal B and Andy's performance.

  • Consider contestant B ....SOLD ! To this bidder....lol

  • I would've liked to see a Bad Monkey thrown into the mix, there's another youtube video comparing it to the Klon and it fares very well.

  • I deffinetly am going for 'B', it sounds much nicer with the chords, however the single notes sound like more of a punch on 'A'/

  • "A" definitely sounds more transparent. "B" is a little more round sounding around the edges and has a little more bass. I personally prefer pedal "A" because of the transparency. I think "A" is the Klon, but that's just me, I've never played either of these pedals.

  • both are great pedals, but I'll stick with the Kalamazoo !

  • i would love to work at pro guitar shop :D

  • i think b is the klon, and if its not sign me up for a kalamazoo!

  • The first one has more transparency, so I think this one is the centaur. B is fatter, not so trasparent, guess it's the Lovepedal

  • Kalamazoo - $199, new from PGS. Cool deal.

Klon - there's one on ebay right now for over SIX HUNDRED FREAKIN' DOLLARS!!

no thanks - and people will actually pay that too...

  • Kalamazoo B has done a great job cloning the centaur. Andys playing, as always makes everything sound great !!!

  • @edadmartin - The Lovepedal Kalamazoo is not a Klon clone at all, nor was it intended to be. The circuits are drastically different. We just happened to notice, after some informal comparisons at the shop, that the two pedals sound very similar in some ways.

  • @ProGuitarShopDemos - They do sound VERY similar (at least in the vid on my computer's speakers). If you weren't playing them side-by-side A/B style, I would probably assume it's the same pedal with maybe some slightly different amp EQ settings.

  • Not sure which is which, but I preferred B with the Les Paul - seemed to smooth out any harshness. But with the Strat I preferred A as it added a bit more sparkle.

    Conclusion = get both ;D

  • Yep, flip a coin for me too. I might like B a tiny bit more on some of the samples but man it's tough.

  • I think the koln is A.

    I prefer B.

  • Kalamazooooo!!

  • Which amp?

  • better to test them on same guitar.. or @ least same type of pickup :D

  • Sound similar, but B has a special vibe to it; hope it's the kalamazoo :)

  • Vote for B. I think It's Klon. But I judged only by samples. This test was easier with compressors, cause I had Keeley.

  • Can't really tell a difference. I also don't really like the sound of either one.

  • To me B sounds a little smoother on the high notes

  • At some points I liked "B" better due to the fact that "A" had just a tiny bit of more harshness (if this is the right word) than "B"

  • A seemed a bit brighter than B.. B sounds better with humbuckers, and A with the single coils

  • I can't tell a difference between the two. Therefore, IMHO, the winner is the Lovepedal. If I can get a tone that I can't distinguish from a Klon, and I can get that tone for under $200, the Lovepedal is the winner.

  • Interesting. There are minimal differences but B sounded just a very tiny bit warmer to my ear, which I prefer.

  • ill take the cheapest one :)

  • I like B. I agree with most of the comments too that A is a little thinner. However, they are still VERY SIMILAR! The price of the Lovepedal makes it the winner even if it is not B. If it is B, I am blown away!

  • B seemed just a little warmer AND tighter, which is an impressive combo. I'm gonna say that was the LovePedal, cos the treble of the other made me think more of a clean boost than an OD.

  • @WeezerFan666 - took the words right out of my mouth :p

  • no idea which one's which but i do prefere B over A. A is a more dominant in the higher frequenties and B is a bit more darker sounding and has a bit more saturation which i like.

  • Through YouTube everything sounds nearly the same, but A was a little clearer in the highs and less congested in the mids. I think that ones the Kalamazoo, and B is the Klon.

  • Too hard to choose a winner on this one. Both pedals have great characteristics. I'd be happy with either.

  • lets face it, they are iqual, there are some minor diferences but lovepedal shure did a good job in the kalamazoo, because it has sutch a good sound as the klon, witch is not easy at all to do.

  • of course the cheapest :)

  • Given that the Lovepedal Kalamazoo Overdrive is half the cost of the Klon and gives you about 95% of what the Klon can, that's a win in my book.

  • you should make a bloopers clip

  • I'm going more in favor of "A". It has this crispy tone to it. Like Col.Sanders chicken!!!!!!!!!! lol

  • Klon is the God of overdrives.

but Kalamazoo is great as well. They sound very much alike, but I prefer "B", the low end sounds a little thicker while A is a little brighter.,still they sound almost the same with single coils x_x

  • I can't pick, haha. Both are great. Maybe a slight edge for me to "A". I dont know really, "A" just had a little more mid-high end presence that I like for slicing through everything else. But, really can't definitively pick!

  • I will have to go with B, but A sounded great

  • sounds great

  • I don't know who is who but A sounds more like a Overdrive Pedal and B has this Distortion touch with a light compression.

    A is my favourite

  • On low and middle gain settings the A sounds brighter, I like it better. On high gain settings it find it hard to hear differences. Anyway if you plan on using one or another at a gig it really doesn't matter which one it is, this kind of subtilities are for recording In my opinion.

  • B, which I'm guessing is the Kalamazoo.

  • b b b b

  • I think that A it a tad more focused on the midrange on higher gain settings and sounds slightly treblier in the low gain settings. If I had to guess, I'd say the Kalamazoo is B, but I don't see how I would choose which one I'd prefer when they're so close.

  • Well, there is also Burgerman's video of a Klon vs. a Bad Monkey that's very interesting... the Klon never did what it does best when asked to perform TS duties. VERY few people understand that. This is another proof. I wouldn't use it on a 100% clean amp as an overdrive myself. Besides that, the differences here are minor - I would probably choose B, and I have absolutely no idea what it is.

  • The real winner here is Andy.

He gets to try all these great pedals. :P

    I prefer pedal "B".

I think pedal "A" is a little too piercing.

  • B definitely.

  • "B" has the typical vintage sound in the high gain settings which I miss with Pedal "A"..->B is the winner =)

  • contender B sounds tweaked!

  • Yeh I prefer A..It seems to have a liitle more something thrown into the mix.."A" first for me, and B a very close second..

  • B please.

Also, what are the SD pickups on the Les Paul?

  • A is nicer to me.

I loved that sound on the strat!

    I hope that's the Kalamazoo D:

I already have a similar tone but damn.

  • Yeah ! B.

  • B wins for me.

  • B is sweet (Y) B for me

  • Geez, there are differences, but they're so , so small, that I woudln't mind buy A or B.

I wouldn't be missing anything out.

  • B sounds slightly better, but both are good.

  • What really made it for me was when Andy strummed the chord at 3:41. Pedal B really shined there IMO, very natural, while A had a little harsher sound to it.

but overall, they both sounded VERY VERY similar

I hope B is the Kalamazoo, at least I know I could afford it :D

  • And for me the A sounds better.

  • Listening on very good speakers right now... B has a richer low end, but A has a nice chimed high end, and a more pronounced mid range. It's hard for me to choose between the two. Both sound very good. I really like A's attack, but I love that rich lower end... B also sounds a little more compressed in ways. However at times the difference between these two is EXTREMELY subtle. I would actually probably go with A, because playing in a band the bass will hog that low end anyway.

  • B for me as well.

  • I'd choose B.

  • I was for B, sounded juicier

  • The B-pedal sounds better.

  • damn, almost no difference at all. very subtle.

  • I vote for B!

  • B= Centaur

    A= Kalmazooo

    why?

    3:37

listen when he strums the chord with th eB it sounds so natural... (klon)

at the end of the Strat

  • the b sounded clearer to me

  • A sounds a bit more dull to my ears. B has a more lively sound to it. For everything except the last example I preferred the B pedal.

  • centaur ftw

  • Listening through crappy laptop speakers -- totally no difference at lower gain. At higher gain, it's "A" by a tiny c-hair.

  • They sound almost exactly alike to me, but I'd have to say B: Kalamazoo.

  • To my ears, B handles non-perfect intervals better. They function almost identically with single notes or fourths and fifths, but once Andy throws a third or sixth, A gets blurry and B just shines. I'm going with B=Kalamazoo.

  • B = Klon = Emc sq.

  • I just see this videos not for the pedals or conteder... just to listen play those guitarrs!! well done Andy!!

  • I'd say A is better for rhythm, but B is better for lead.

  • I relly like B, even though they were SHOCKINGLY similar. eq it just right and no non-musicians would tell the difference ;)

  • really, the first demo with the LP is considered "low" gain?

  • I prefer B for more rhythm situations and A for Leed.. but we'll see! I love Lovepedals and since the both sound so similar, i think a lot of those selling Klons on ebay will have a harder time. :D

  • @DFojas Amen to that.

  • Man those sound really similar. I think I prefer A. I hope its the Kalamazoo. It was pretty close though.

  • i liked them both, smooth glassy and exceptionally clear. i think 'A' was the Kalamazoo and 'B' was the the Centaur. if i guessed right do i get to keep one? well it was worth a shot! great playing Andy!

  • Goin with B!! =) Thanx for the return of SMACKDOWN!!!! =D

  • I think A is Kalamazoo and B is Klon Centaur. The differences were very hard to hear, but I like A better. B was a little more raspier, and A had more character, especially in the strat part.

  • Honestly, there's not a whole lot of difference in the tones to me but I prefer B just a bit more because it seems to have a bit more bite and attack to it. They both sound great though.

  • I'm really digging pedal B, it seems clearer, with a bit more twang and snap, i hope its the Kalamazoo cause i can actually buy one :P

  • Dunno who's who, but "A" is my winner :). I like the extra bite and clarity it added to the Les Paul.

  • On certain settings A is better to my ears, but overall I think I liked the tone of B just a little bit more...

  • on the upper range, they sound the same on my laptop... B seems to be a bit rounder.. but my headphones output isn't working so I'm a bit aggravated.. :/

  • A all the way. It sounds tighter. B seems to have a bigger bottom. I think A is the Kalamazoo.

  • both sounds the same to me. i'm getting the kalamazoo. screw the klon hype

  • A!!!! "A" gives a clean overdriven tone... "B" adds a little too much harshness for my taste

  • I liked them both. I'd save the money and go for the Kalamazoo.

  • A -Kalamazoo, B - Centaur.

  • I liked A for rhythm and B for lead.

  • They are comparable, save your money and get the Kalamazoo. In a live mix you won't hear the difference.

  • A Lovepedal

    B Klon

Lovepedal for the win, because it could do so much more.

  • contender a sounded much more brittle and bright for my taste...contender B sounds warmer and more dynamic, but only a slight bit

  • I like B better

  • I think A is the kalamzoo and even if it isnt, i still like the tone a lot better of A. super subtle though... i could barely tell teh difference.

  • b was more bettererer

  • @ShadowTooth13 LOL!

  • KLon FTW!

  • That difference is waaaay too small to justify spending several hundred dollars more on the Klon.

  • wat amp r u using?

  • A seems brighter and has clarity. B seems to have more grit and range, if that makes sense.... but jeez, they're so similar it's hard to call!

  • They sound ALOT alike, but I like B better

  • My vote goes for A, more transparent, sweeter tone to my taste.

  • I think the Klon is A. Its sound is smoother. The *slightly* more gainy Kalamazoo is B methinks.
