  • Thsi one is better than his 'vertical jump' training. The 40 yard dash should be considered as a 'drive phase', with head down, accelerating throughout the entire distance. Trying to take as long and as fast a stride as possible to increase top speed. Worked for me (granted, it took 2 years of practice) Started with a 4.56seconds, ended with 4.29 on track with cleats... not bad for a guy with a 32" inseam...

  • yeah speed ladders r ok, but u need to work on actually opening up and running. try to get ur hand on a parachute so training with that resistance will help u with ur body lean as well as ur strength and endurance.

  • im about the same size as u im 5 10 180 and i run a 4. 45, one of the best ways to work on yr speed and explosion is to run stairs, it is better for you that running up hill cus it makes u get your knees up, also when running your 40, go in a 3 point stance, sum ppl do 4 but that normally puts to much weight forward and u spend to much time trying to regain balence, pump as hard as u can with your arms and try to get your legs to keep up, this should help u

  • well depending on how old you are but if you ran a 4.9 it would be possible to get 4.5 but it depends on the way you train its not all genetics, hard work as a lot to do with it plus 40 speed does not account for top speed so if you can outrun most people then dont worry bout it to much focus on getting quicker if thats the case

  • out of all honesty there isn't to many people that can run a 4.3 electronically. They had to train for a long time to accomplish that. Your 4.39 is probably at the most a 4.7 or 4.8 Electonically. If you add the .27 or hand time and take out the timers reaction time. But thats a good start to have a good 40 down the road.

Then you also want to work out your hamstring muscles and your ass muslces. seated leg press is the best machine to work all the muscles you need to be quicker... thats all I know.   • hey jono i run a 4.28 40yd and a 21.7 200m. 6'2 190. And i am attending Rice university on a full scholarship for football. To improve your 40yd time. You need to do the following.

    acquire a proper starting position. Keep a good drive phase. and cycle your legs over your knees. Almost like doing high knees and butt kicks at the same time. Also being flexible will help with your strides.

  • Definately Power CLeans and deadlifts (Olympic lifters have the fastest 10 yard dash in the world b/c they are so explosive) and loose some fat with conditioning and Flexibility definately helps.

  • Only the elite run 4.5's or lower in High School, them and the little skinny, scrawny ass track kids who's speed go to waste. Unless you're athletic and are one of the elite at your school your speeds are irrelevant because chances are you can't put those speeds to proper use athletically speaking.
