  • #1: The feeling you can get from it, how a simple chord progression can bring any emotion from anger to joy. \

#2: Would be nice, but I do it to be known rather then the money. I don't want fame rather I just want my work to be recognized. All the money I want is enough to pay rent and maybe get me a few more synthesizers, and maybe food. Food would be nice.

  • music biz is a tool.

ART IS ONLY WHAT IT MEANS TO YOU AND WHAT YOU FIND PROFOUND.

The internet is a tool, like the major labels ONCE WERE

The confusion comes when politics pollutes the 2 with it's aspiration. The guy who gave you 2 million has nothing to do with whether or not YOU COME UP WITH SOMETHING SPECIAL - THAT WOULD OCCUR WHETHER HE EXISTED OR NOT. Take the money / smile!

  • SUCCESS: is all personal. For me, it's making good music that I know in my heart is better or as good as anything else. DOING IT FULL TIME. Does not matter if you are Lady GAGA and play the same crap night after night. Famous bands do the same stuff other musicians do...day after day, anyways...travel, soundcheck, play music, write, rinse, repeat. It's a lifestyle. Once I am full time...my dreams came true!

  • The public will, rarely, take the chance to embrace something NEW and good UNLESS SOME REPUTABLE SOURCE / IE - Major label promo says it's cool = Lady GAGA

quagmire: Majors are no longer looking to develop - THEY WANT ACTS, ALREADY WITH AN AUDIENCE = AUDIENCE WON'T TAKE CHANCE ON DIFFERENT SOUNDS - PEER PRESSURE - round & round - The U2's of today is somewhere in their bedroom / internet - GET IT?

  • I am the smartest person, I know.

  • Part1 IS THE ANSWER to part 2, lol!

2 Million dollars allows you to create music for the remainder of your natural life. He won, sorry

nutshell: b4, A&R (aficionados) will dictate what they consider art to the mass, by developing new acts, like U2. NOWADAYS IT'S ALL DEMOCRATIZED, LEAVING GOOD ART INDEPENDENT & MOST MAJOR RELEASES = TRITE CRAP. GOOD MUSIC IS ALL INDIE, NOWADAYS

  • I think everyone should be like Cross Canadian Ragweed. They put on one of the best shows but hardley nobody knows about them. The record exec at Universal South tried to get them to change one of there songs to make it more " radio friendley". they said fuck you and did it there own way. they have been togeather for 15 yrs. and still do over 200 shows a year. but most bands dont give a shit and are in it for the money. mostley new age gountry.

  • Oh and to answer the question, Id rather go for longevity. In the context of hip hop, look at artists like Jay Z, Nas, Jada, Luda etc. These are big names, yet still respected in the industry, and still have more in there career to come. Now look at artists like T-Pain, Soulja Boy, GS Boys etc. Theyre gone, cuz they latched on to trends. You can be the best at "snap music" or "crunk music," but what happens when noone wants to hear it anymore? That's right, they dont wanna hear you anymore!

  • There is still incredible passion for the music. If it was all about the money, I would have quit already. What I love about making music (making hip hop beats in my case) is that adrenaline rush and the way the music just flows out of you when you know you're on to somethin. When I'm listening, I love the feeling of being overwhelmed by what I hear, and even slightly envious/upset that I didn't make somethin like that first lol.

  • Making music for me is a labour of love, making money is merely a by product. It has to start with a passion for writing, recording and performing music, followed by some good old fashioned self promotion. If you are lucky enough to make a living along the way you should consider that a welcome bonus. Google "The Antiqcool Podcast " to discover more about the Antiqcool music business model (or non model depending on your viewpoint)

  • ill take the million

  • Music is just fascinating good music intrigues me, moves me and takes me places. Im guessing your mate is someone who isnt really wired to respond to and understand music in the same way. Just like Im not wired to enjoy following sport that much.

With regards your second question regardless of popularity Id just carry on writing and releasing music independently and relish the freedom that comes with obscurity. (works for Scott Walker)

  • hey Geebz, first off, thanks for your videos. Nowadays there's a lot of information (and crap too) and yours is quality info!

As regards the 'moron', (lol) ,it's pretty obvious that when he says 'NO ONE GIVES A SHIT ABOUT MUSIC' ,he's only generalizing! The only people who don't give a shit about music are people like HIM ,that are interested everything else BUT music (i.e. making money, etc). They are investors, not artists. So what's their point in trying to understand something that they can't.

  • Answer to first question: emotions! We make music to pursue emotions that everything else in life cannot create. When I hear a movie soundtrack, I feel whatever I feel, only when I hear the music!

Answer to second question: I would gladly be an one hit wonder, make a million, and

live the rest of my life writing, practicing, studying and creating more music!

The above applies to me as a musician. As a music listener,I can't even imagine a life without music.

  • Unfortunate as it may be, there are a great deal, not all..but a great deal of musicians that would be blinded by the million dollar track deal. But go figure, these are the same types of people that find more value in an american style home than in a block of gold.

If you invest in your name, then you can build a solid foundation for a profession within music. If you sell out...........well Robert Van Winkle might be a decent guy in the end, but I just remember Vanilla Ice.

  • Well I won't say anything in regards to the first question because I fear people might associate my response with my music. But regarding the "sell out" issue.....

I think it depends on the culture. Having travelled and lived in...a good few countries....I 've noticed that certain cultures thrive only on riches and no dignity. However, the american in me just wants to be able to pay rent for the rest of my life thanks to a stable income from music. Which would require, like you said, quality.

  • This is a creative industry, there are way too many suits and gatekeepers telling people what they should and should not listen to.

Personally I think the demise of the traditional record industry is a good thing for independent artists.

15-20 years ago producing an album/CD was an expensive business, now people are turning out quality recordings from their bedroom studios.

We still need filters in the industry, perhaps now more than ever with a saturated market place.

  • (Follow on from 1st comment)

It is now cool to be indie and with a little ingenuity artists can achieve as much if not more than they could signing to a major label. Find a niche of fans who like what you do and give them lots of personal attention.

Write from the heart (without becoming self indulgent) and you may be pleasantly surprised.

  • well i do vocals for a band and to completely honest i couldnt care less if we "make it big" or what ever to me music is about freedom and the feeling you get when ur preforming. just looking over a crowd makes you for get about everything. you only have about a 30 minute set to tell 100 people that you have never met exactly how you are and wht ur about

i wouldnt choose to be a one hit wonder because im not a musician for the money.

  • considering this website, you will get serious music creators/lovers. It is about writing good songs forever & learning. I love music more than anybody, but music is free online, so truthfully I don't buy music anymore. That is why I come here. creative ways to sell what you love in a business that can't sell anymore. Anyone can release music (good or crap) so being creative with good songs is key. not everyone can write a good song, so that is where posers die off.

  • moron record exec is right about the majority, there are tons of tons of myspace musicians who are prime examples. We need to get the passionate people into the business but yeah, MOST OF THEM ARE Sellouts, i totally agree with him, but there are still a good enough size of people who have passion

  • I agree a big majority of the musicians are out to be that one hit wonder, they are disposible, others are against "selling out" i want to make a lasting career out of it, i would have failed if i only sell one song, i would like to develop into a great artist, and i realise it takes time, but you have to make money at first to continue selling more records, i definatly would not give up at the point where my music fails. I am looking for it to be a lifetime commitment, learn all aspects ofmusic

  • Creativity is a big part of life, weather music, painting, writing, culinary creativity etc....When some1s being creative they give out good vibes, energy, whatever u want 2 call it... And the world can use some more good vibes,2much Military/Government Chas going on<

  • Well' Music is life just a starter. Music unfortunetly is the only thing that will go on in the world no matter what the lyrics are or who sings it..

I do have to say music loose its glory but there's no way man that music doesnt affect my daily life ,,,

I think i wouldnt have a reason to live if i had no life. if i didnt have a guitar or my voices.

  • im stationed in Hawaii in the Navy and if youve been here you already know about the big reggae influence music as well as the naural sounds of the ukulele. to wrap this madness up; just be real and express yourself thru music dont use it as a damn paycheck, cuz thats when your work sounds like shit to those who want to hear art.

  • i ran out of space. lol but music is a passion! a serious passion of mine and i hate that some people are on board with the idea of making that quick dollar. yea you might need the money but a million dollars is something that you should get for something grand. i dont know if im making sense but: LOVE YOUR MUSIC damnit! i listen to all genres just bcuz i have a drive for it where would the world be with out music? when people in the industry are successful its cuz they love what they do

  • I seriously understand where youre coming from on this on because i see it also. fuckers just want to get money from doin a couple a quick tracks...well i will say this if you have the opportunity to make a quick dollar, you probably will go for it if your financial situation is unstable and someone from the industry presents this grand opportunity. my personal opinion on this matter is if i got that money and failed, i would lay low and try to get back to the top with a new hit i love music!

  • I create and listen to music because some music has the ability to resonate with something innate or elemental within us. It has the ability to affect us at an almost spiritual level at times. When music can bring you to an entirely new world..something special is happening. When that happens, music is basically going beyond the mind and transcending your entire being. It's beautiful. Making a song that suits the current popular musical landscape is easy, but real music is about more than that.

  • What is so bad about being a one hit wonder if you have made your mark on the world through music? Being a one-hit wonder would be better than being a no-hit wonder i would have thought. if you had just one hit, it would have reached millions of people and have impacted their lives in a positive way...even if it's just one hit...

  • There is an emotional connection with it.

  • what is it about music that i love?

i love the feeling of making a track that people i know will listen to and enjoy. i used to be in a band which nobody ended up giving a shit about and a couple years ago i lost my passion for music and drums from that experiance.

im trying to get back into music but this time its DJ'n i want to make my own beats but i have this feeling in me that i will just fail again and waste my money but its something i want to do but i have this negative in my head

  • Well I'm 15, preparing to start the long road of promotion. I have written about 25 songs so far, with new ideas flying out everywhere. In June, I will be employing the domain name I have purchased and start to love this process. I would despise being a one hit wonder, and although money is important, its inspiring people like I have been inspired before that is awe-inspiring. A career is what Im after, doing something I find amazing. Watched most of your vids, inspirational! Thank you.

  • Last year I went to a songwriters conference in Hollywood and was shocked at how many "hardnoses" I ran across like the guy you describe. It almost killed my own dream...but I'm still out there performing even though I know by their standards I will never be a superstar or even have a chance to be a so-called "one hit wonder." Besides, even many of those who are labelled one hit wonders still get out there and perform even if they have to go to smaller venues or start their own labels!

  • I admire someone like Nas because he stayed true all these years, his message never changed nor did his ethic, and he was consistent. He has/had a CAREER in music because ppl respected him and knew he wasn't bubble gum. When fads came out, Nas still stayed Nas from "Illmatic" and never switched up his style. So to answer your question, No to the one hit wonder question.

  • The passsion... there is one language over all the world and we call it music. Nothing else transcends our experience as humans or expresses our deepest longings and pain... only music. It connects us to the earth, to the sky, to ourselves and to one another. It moves me to tears and smallness and greatness always.

  • Artists have been rightly been complaining for years about the disgusting exploitation of artists by record companies. How many great artists have burnt out or died because of incessant touring in order to make a living because they made no money from record sales even if they sold in the millions. Fuck the music industry!

  • Don't believe this guy. I've bee around long enough to know a plant. Things like this guy's video are the music industy's last ditch effort to save themselves. The future is already here, bands doing it themselves, and not having to sign their souls away. Remember when these record industry assholes said cd's would be down to $5 or less in a few years back when cd's first came out. I can still go into record stores and find cd's for $15 and up. Fuck these guys.

  • I love music it is a source I must have and I wouldn't accept just being a one hitter. When I do music I want it to be forever. I want to be know as a CLASSIC ARTIST to be always remembered for my works. SEANPAPASEAN

  • One hit wonder? i would kill myself! and the thing that makes me wanna just grab that guitar and make it ooze feeling is every time i see another musician whose playing with so much love for music.... i started playing guitar for how much i loved music, how it sounded, how it moved, flowed, how intelligent it is. (as opposed to a dumb-a** 1-hit`n`run) I love it when i see people like Don Ross and Andy Mckee because they`re so in love with music, and makes me wanna be the same way

  • yeah,

"...I'd rather be a TenYearFailure, rather than a OneHitWonder.."

    -michael

  • I am a musician, who is currently in a band, and speaking on behalf of me and all my members I would say hell no!!! There is no way I would ever sell out just to have my music produced in a way that it would become a one hit wonder... Having that said I do want a family so I would like a descent income, but seriously I'm not going to pass that kind of lame legacy down to my children. That's like throwing a football game!

  • If I was Given a Million $ 4 a one Hit Song Well, I wouldn't Take it. Because Money Doesn't matter 2 me, Music Is My Life; And If I washed up in 2 years, with that one hit wonder, I would Still Produce Music Because I love It. It's My Passion and That Know one Can Take From me.

  • I Got to say, that was very well thought up/nicely said. Never thought of it that way. Well done!

  • Music is music is music doesn't matter who made it or where it came from or how it was made, if it was made with a million quid or one penny What makes one man cry will make another sick. A song made without passion can still make someone smile, as can a song full of passion. It's whatever floats your boat. Keep singing :-)

  • Could not have said it better!! From the soul it will always be.....

  • Real musicians make music for the love of music. I guarantee you that the guy who said that has never played an instrument!I TOTALLY AGREE

  • Bro-

As a musician what moves me is the creative process itself. It is a gift that only a handful of us have. Music heals, it binds us and inspires us. I write original contemporary Christian music - so it's not about money.

  • Further - if I had a million dollars from a hit I would invest it and live off the interest and continue to make music. If you want to make money - go into sales. Real musicians make music for the love of music. I guarantee you that the guy who said that has never played an instrument.

  • 100% True all the way..... Thanks for your comments.

  • #2- if someone offered me $1m for a song i wrote, hell yeah i would take it. sorry, we live in a material world and teachers get paid shit. i have written/arranged music for different ensembles. it's exciting to hear a performance of a piece i wrote. i have never been paid nor have i asked to be paid for what i have written. i do take pride in what i write... i never write crap.

"You can live without music, but without music you aren't living." - my high school choral director

  • What a great saying that your tech said. I to had a choral teach that had a profound impact on my outlook on music. Lucky us....

  • i'm a band director, so here's a slightly different perspective (outside "pop," rock, etc.)

#1- i enjoy both listening and performing... although, as a teacher, i don't get to perform as much as i would like. i could spend hours sitting at the piano playing a piece (classical, of course). i just sat at a marching band competition for 9 hours. i listened to My Chemical Romance on the way home. music is an art form... a universal language.

    #2 in next post....

  • part 2: To be honest, writing the one great song that would make me alot of money and then being considered washed up would be fine with me because I wouldn't have done it for the fame. I'd still write songs and enjoy it like i've always have. I don't need to do it for a living to consider myself successful at it...I'd just be 1 million dollars richer...and life goes on.

  • Very cool comments! Thanks for taking the time...

  • part 1: As a listener, great melody and harmony. Dynamic progressions highs and lows from verse to chorus to bridge. The band The Tea Party comes to mind. As a musician, I like the songs I write and the whole process of writing and recording, but showing them to other people scares me because I don't want them to discourage and take away from it what I love so much. (part 2 in the next post)

  • hell yea...sex drugs n rock n roll...all a growing boy needs

  • In the old days you could get out once a week and jam with the boys, today there are a lot of venues that have swithed to sports bars, etc...and the video channels are a nice venue to get tunes out and blow off steam. Nice to get feedback from others that might not necessarily hear you. More choices today to find a gendre you like and find tons of material not availible from big boys. Million buck? Take it and keep posting...lol...just have better equipment...lol...

  • 'For heights and depths so words can reach, music is the soul's own speech.' ~unknown

Money shouldn't have a damn thing to do with that.

  • My music 'passion' relates to emotion. The problem with 'much' of the music that your friend in the industry would prefer to promote is - it lacks the quality that I seek. A liken to a picture that speaks a thousand words a song evokes a thousand images. Humans are creatures of creativity by nature. For those that do not practice this inert desire there is the work of others that on a superficial level will sustain them. For me I 'must' create! Blessings... E!

  • Great talking first of all!

    second, I love making music...

Music is SOUL, when u got talent u can reach many people with it, with the music comes a lot of power, healing, comfort, love etc.

If u use it in a positive way.

Third, million or not I can't stop with my music.

I don't care about the money at all, never had a lot of it haha but I feel good and lucky and have a lots of love around me!

If I ever make a million, I want to make the positive circle around me bigger with it!

    Mary A xxx

  • 2B. But your goal should be long term, to develop yourself, to become a better person, musician and to reach out and have a more powerful impact for positive changes for the greater good. Everyone gets locked up in themselves and thats where we all go wrong from the very start.

    rock and roll!

    Frank/Another Random Cause

  • So stoke at the time you took to comment. GREAT COMMENTS!!!

  • 2. washed up for a million dollers? which leads me to this second question. First off, a million dollers isnt what its supposed to be, neither is 2, you cant go very far at all with it. So imagine selling your soul for a couple of bucks. If you are a true musician thats what you've done. I'm not saying you SHOULDNT earn money doing what you love and some might read into taking the mill. for there music as making the money to support themselves.

  • 1. what moves you about music? its energy, the fact something as powerful as the written word can be intertwined with my guitar and make an impact on someone. Writing to help, to give hope, to identify, for memories forpeople should be the sincere reason. Think of a photograph in a musical form.

  • You might want to message lisalavie1. A Canadian who is by passing the old method. Within a short few months she is making an impact here on the YT. TV has noticed her. You might want to take a look.

  • Yea, I chatted with here a while ago. She's agreat talent!!

  • Okay... I want to post a video response for this one, Geebz. So much going on that I somehow missed this one. It'll be tough to keep my answer to a short clip but I'll do my best. :)

  • No need to keep it short.... show the Passion in your video to match the passion you have for music. :)

PS.....pass this video around tooooooo. hehehe

  • i cant sit through a single class without writing some form of music...i'm not taking that million...i want longevity and creativity to win...as a hip hop producer, i think that 90% of the "rappers" on myspace want to make it big for that fast cash and dont want to really put anything into their music...just have things handed to them!!!

I make music for me, I play music for me, however music is my career as well, but I am fortunate to have picked my love as my job

  • Man. Even three or five hit wonders can be pathetic - and million dollars is going to be gone long before you have to quit doing shows at malls and grand openings for car washes with your big one hit. Maybe if it were 50 million.

  • The real problem is that the media is overcontrolling the market. It seems to happen over again with every generation (or half). At some point, people are going to wake up and a whole industry is going to be washed out and replaced with new people. Kind of like what Grunge did. Or Friends on the tube. And then we will see how these execs do on what they have left. It's never been pretty before.

  • I learned in a very hard and painful way that you are never worth what you have, only what you can create.

For me, making music is about the moment and memories. Not about money at all. And pretty much the rest of my life is too.

  • You nailed it right there!!!!

  • Great topic. I have played and written music since I was a child, and God willing, I will do so until the day I die. It just comes out of me-- I can't stop it even if I wanted to. I don't just use music to express a part of me--it IS a part of me.

I wouldn't want to be a "one hit wonder." If one of my songs made a million dollars, it would be probably the one song I don't like much, and I would be embarrassed that the only part of my art that people heard was the crappiest.

  • The great thing is the we WILL write music for life........even if we can't play it cause we're 90yo, it will alwys be in our souls! Nice post

  • Hey what happened to my video response? It's got deleted...

  • OK thanks for getting in touch, I have managed to add my video response back again :)

  • Never! If I can't be making music from the soul until the day I die, I will die a very unhappy man. That is the one and only objective. If in order to realise this, I have to get the music to a wide audience & make money off it, then so be it. But it most definately comes in this order: - MUSIC 1st..... - - - - - - - -LUXUARIES later!
  • I suppose my response is a bit different, because I'm a classical musician - but for me, music is not only my way of expressing myself, but my way of communicating and conveying my feelings and trying to evoke some sort of response from the audience. I would NOT trade a million dollars for my shelf life as a player and singer, NO WAY. Music is my passion; obviously I'm not in it to make money, or I wouldn't be a classical musician, LOL!

  • Awesome topic, by the way, thanks so much for sparking a discussion over this topic! My friend ModernOracle sent this video to me...I'm subscribing! *hugs* ~Marissa

  • Part 4 -

Radiohead is showing us the way to true independent music. Throw the album up on your own website and ask for donations. Let people support the music they love, bands make more from performances than they do from "record" sales. Cut out the middlemen who have nothing to offer the fans of music other than greed and the ability to live off of the talent of others.

  • All your posts were GREAT! Part 4 is what IS the future of the music business coupled with permission marketing ala Endorsement Deals. Thanks again!

  • Part 3.

Super artists like Madonna and Aerosmith are few and far between, and they've gotta keep that register ringing. People putting their stuff on Myspace and You Tube aren't doing it because they want to get rich. There are much easier ways to get rich, and way too many people putting stuff up on Myspace and Youtube. They are doing it because they think they have something worth listening too and they hope people like it. God knows youtube isn't paying us.

  • Part 2

Nothing beats it, certainly not money.

    2. I'd take the million dollars so I can quit my day job and if I really didn't think I could reinvent myself I'd start a label (not that a million is much any more). At least I wouldn't be selling doors and windows for a living.

It's definitely true that all record labels care about is making a buck regardless of whether an artist has more than one hit. It's always been that way.

  • 1. I work with a guy that's in a zeppelin tribute band and plays keyboard behind several Elvis impersonators. "Dude when are you going to give up this rock star dream and make some money" he says because I'm always in bands that play original music. But Damn it feels great when I'm singing and playing a song that I wrote with a tight band and I get those goosebumps you get when you see someone out there (even one person) amazed at how good everything sounds and that's all yours.

    See part 2

  • 1. I make music cause I'd go fuckin insane if i didn't. It's part escapism, it's part brain exercise, makes me feel productive and scratches my creative itch.

    2. I'd take the million dollars as long as i didn't have to seriously compromise who i am. If I was going to end up like vanilla ice, no chance!...but if I could have one hit I'm proud of and then vanish into obscurity...then I'd quit my day job by some new gear and keep making music for myself

  • I think what really drives my passion for the art of music wouldn't be the money, but how FREE it is. It's that awesome power, to freely create something that has such a large impact on people in so many ways. As well as that healing quality music can offer the creator. It's a great way to channel your emotions, thoughts, ideas, anything! Freedom to express! And no money, I repeat, NO MONEY could buy me of my independence.

  • This is interesting. I think a million dollars sounds great. However music is expression, you know an art. We play for many reasons! Money is one of them. But the true happiness of music is sharing it with others aswell as enjoying the thrill of creation! It's worth much more than money! Putting it like you said, well them I would say no to the money! But A mill might be a fair trade for some. Anyhow you cant take it with you! So for the music not the money!

  • Hi there,

To answer your question: for me music (singing, writing and composing) is THE way to express my feelings and sometimes to process things. It can really help me get something out of my system if you know what I mean.

For me this is what I want to be able to do for the rest of my life, and it is much more important than making money!!

(Hope I wrote it down well, 'cause I'm a Dutch girl...)

  • video response posted! hope this works out well :)

  • ...Money is obviously great, it's just the transportation not the destination and if your life is just money - like the way you have painted the 'muki-muk' dude then your life is stuck on the 'circle line'. Symptoms of this life is , 'cynicism' and 'selfishness' -as you garner objects around yourself to make life on the train more interesting. Don't die on the train man, get off, grab a guitar and stoke up the bbq... let's eat and don't Bogart my Humphrey.

    p.s. $1,000,000 no problem

  • Hey martinplant I really agree with you, well said! Hehe don't "Bogart my Humphrey" really cool line dude! Just for that I'm going to check out your channel.

  • ....music here and they clash and allways have, way back to Mozart man.

Fame and fortune what's that got to do with expressing spirit, it's all a glamor playing out...

  • man look at those guitars and studio and Hawaii, you got some good karma somewhere going for you...

Money is the thing here, we all need to live sing, grow food, cook, eat, love and 'cause we don't trust because we lie we need all these receipts for gold to 'guarantee' our self lifes. Music is primal for us, it's not like movies, musical notes are in our brains and bodies, you receive music thru that right brain and so we are more receptive to words/lyrics ideas etc.

    Money is the opposite to...

  • cool!

    *****

  • I've been writing and recording original music for 15 years because I love playing and the creative outlet. If I made a million dollars on a song and was a one hit wonder I would continue writing and creating new music because that's what I love to do. I've been doing it without any great financial rewards because I enjoy it, a hit song wouldn't change that!

  • Dude, what did you expect from an exec?

"You gotta get an album out...you owe it to the people"......"and we're so happy we can hardly count". Thirty year old lyrics and still true today!

  • But, to answer your question, I'd take the million and buy (if you still can) an FM station and feature non-mainstream artists (like on YT). I love classic rock, but after 40 years of it, there's got to be more.

  • Good question man! I simply HAVE to sing or I feel like there's something missing. It's where I feel the most the most alive.

I auditioned for The X Factor a year ago and it was scary how they wanted people to act like loonies just to get on camera. I realise that being what they wanted wasn't me at all, so I'd rather be myself and not get that particular deal. There will be others. Dan =:D

  • Let the music be your master

Will you heed the master's call?

  • Nice one!!!

  • Great post ! 5 stars. I love to write, sing and play music. Once I write a song it is in my family as a gift for years. Sometimes I write a song as a gift for a person or family. One hit wonder is like hitting one Home Run in the Majors. It's one more than than I have.

     --:) Rod

  • Hahahahhaaaaa that was funny! Thnks for commenting!

  • I am musically talentless but I love music, and I just hate one hit artists... It always leaves you thinking "What ever happened to that guy/girl?"... It must be cool to make a living out of what you love but I don't think a true artist would settle just for money.

  • True, true.....

  • but you must remember that the one hit may be out of 300-500 songs that person has written. The one hit is just the song that was picked up by the masses because of promotion, packaging, or a really catchy song at the right time.

  • I don't believe that any musican or group ever with a one-hit wonder wished for that. It's not in an artists dreams... ever. Money is good, but it doesn't satisfy a true artist. As far as musicians online... we are in the middle of a transition. Internet will surpass television and radio. It really should be recognized as a resource by the entire record industry.

  • I agree that no one every thinks of releasing a one hit wonder.......that just happens. YES, internet is already supassing 80% a media as we know it which is why I'm positive about the future of music

  • Hi. This is dadeconi or better known as "DUECONI" . Yes I would take the million one or maybe twice only because I don't have much time left to do these things and this largely due to my age.....old..... not a market for the old ones you know. I would like to sell a few songs to established artist just for the royalties and retirement funds.

  • There is a market for you, just most people think not and don't wnat to try (IMO). If you build it they will come. :)

  • Music moves me~ its part of our Heart Soul body mind and energy.

We feel music, its part of the chemistry, the makeup. Its expression.

Its a Language that crosses all borders, cultures, and even species (whales, birds) Its emotion that takes you places. You can create, invent, make memories, enjoy, recall.

The deal: I dont think anyone wants that kind of deal.. Things happen I guess unfortunately, but would someone want that to happen ? Nope! my 2 cents :)

  • WOW.....very poetic. ::::touched:::::

  • Hello Geebz, thanks GregBro :)

    1. If I were that top music exec I'd scout these new places for the most effectively catchy songs and break it (with a studio band if needed).

    2. Make many millionaires where some would carry on finding inspiration to write another great song and stay longer...

  • Paradies Earth for prez!!!

  • LOL Geebz! Super Cool! The time I get elected is the time when one of my originals managed to realize No. 1 then No. 2.

O Creator Of Everything We Know Of Please Yes! Elect Me As Prez! :^)

In the mean time, I'll try to re-post them in stereo ASAP so when they come scouting, they're at least as good as I'm able to make them.

Thanks a million for the daydream Geebz, you're a sparkler of hope in our hearts :^)

  • sour grapes on be half of the record industry,

and thay are affraid of the unknown, thay dont know where music is going but one thing is certain its not dieing its being reborn

.i am 56 and i love music and still listen to and carry on writing music for me, as i have been doing all these years, music was around be for the industry

  • Great observation!

  • I agree with you on the record exec, and the business. They're missing the point altogether these days.

Music is part of a musician's soul. It's not there for money, it's there for the emotional and physical joy you get from it. I've made money with it, and I've played the stage game in the past, but that's secondary. I get MORE thrill from just hanging out with other musicians, creating and enjoying music for its own sake.

  • As to the one hit wonder, yeah, I'd take the mil and run with it and consider it a wild stroke of luck. And I'd go right on making music just as before, because I LOVE it.

    Moosie

  • Music touches my soul. If I had the talent and inspiration I would play, sing, and listen to music all my waking life. I am not in the music biz and never expect to be, but YT is an outlet for a passion that lets my musical abilities touch people. And it lets others touch me with their's -Dennis

  • Very true!!!

  • I grew up with music and song allways being a part of lifes exspression. so I'd do it no matter what' sharein the music is a form of communication' heart to heart' mind to mind.. here I have a greater opertunity to touch or be touched by other lives and hearing there exspression on life' as for the money well' one could say most of the world is oblivious to me anyhow' so goin back after a hit track ehhh' at least I would know one song touched' a million dollars worth of lives'

  • BRILLIANT!!!

  • I've done music for about 47 years now. I process my world through song writing. I've done it without an eye toward being a star or gleaning a fortune. But, at 63 years old, if you offered me a million for one of my songs and after that annonimity? Would I take it? Is there a mustache in Mexico? Hell, yes. What a great retirement plan continuing to do what I did before but with the security of being a millionaire. Cool.

  • Now that's a good reason to take the money for sure! I bet you have a great library of music that you've written. Soundtrack of your life.

  • Alright Geebz, I don't think the million dollar choice is totally up to the artist or the indusrty. I think we should test out the theory for real. For example, I will waive my 1 million dollar fee, (royalties seperate) for the full industry promotion of one song only, focusing on promoted video spots on all the viral sites, advertised as an industry vs artist experiment. I think we should let the listeners decide the fate of the artist. I'd be willing to take that risk, would he?

  • Totally AGREEEEEEE!

  • Music is one of the most powerful things on

earth it can make you laugh or cry or make people follow.I personally like music for my pleasure, if I ever made money from one hit I

would write more with some muppet fronting and enjoy the money without the hassle

  • Creating/playing music is my only gifted talent..It's something I don't have to think about..it's what I do..it's so much a part of my life that I can't NOT play..Oh I want people to like the songs I create...but even if no one ever listened to one fucking song..I'd still write them..I do it for me first..everyone else second. A million dollars wouldn't change much at all..nicer stuff.. Cheers

  • Great comment. Somthing so deep in the soul such as music will always escort your life with or without money.

  • Ok, first, music to me is life. I love everything about it. It can be sad, happy, moving, upbeat, mellow. I can convey every human emotion. I would not give up music for anything, however, your question is not really worded that way. So to answer the second part. If I were to be given 1 million dollars for a one hit wonder and be washed up after that. Not for me. I'd rather make 70k+ a year and be able to travel with my music than be the guy on VH1's "Where are they now?" shows.

  • You, my friend, stated the single most important attitude you need to make it in the biz. WELL SAID!

  • I came on Youtube to get the opinions of strangers on my material. My views on the music industry are that some of the major labels (not all) are commerce driven, so the money is more important. The independant labels DO care about the music though. That's why most new sounds come through them. They take the risks, whereas the big boys are less inclined.

  • we do music because we love it if anyone else likes it great

  • not sure what you meant about the million dollar question, but if i got one hit and made a million and that was the end, fukn right i'd do it..then i'd just use the money to have complete identity change, breast implants, nose job, eyebrow implants, the lot, and start again under another name...no one would notice

  • ...and a gentle breeze rustling thru the tress can relax us, so we've got soft piano trills, or a flute to imitate that emotion. So to me music touches parts of our deep emotional world that nothing else can...it externalises a very hidden world of emotions and connects us to our past

  • For me, music ( or sound vibration ) is the most fundamental means of communication for any organic life..way back in our evolution if we felt the ground vibrations from a large animal's footsteps( but couldn't see it), it'd scare the shit out of us and we'd run the opposite direction pretty sharpish..that to me is like a loud bass drum at a live concert, it should scare u a little...

  • What does music mean to me?

A physical injury forces me not to practice any sports, and my dyslexia keeps my from reading a lot of literature. So music is my sport and literature combined together. And it will be forever!

Do I whant to be an overproduced one-day-fly?

Fame is not one of my aspirations, I don't need loads of money. But I do love to perform. As long as I can keep playing what I love, I will play anywhere.

    Gijs

  • I have dug music all my life I was at Shea stadium .

I had a very popular garge band when I was young , then came the war for me and what I did. I love all music , I have made the most promoteing Young POP females selling there merch on forums .

A million dollars is not a lot of money , that is why Jo has been slowed down ( my latest project ) So she can go way beyond her 2 movies and 2 albums Im thinking long term for her into her mid twentys for music and beyond in film.

  • music for me is like brathing ,i am living all alone now cus i choose my music and lave my family for that

and i will not stop music for a millions

    i rather die

  • what makes to sit and pick up an instrument ... its a bit hard to explain, but i know every time i'm sad or something i end up behind keyboard or making some music. I don't think i would go for that million, there wouldn't be any joy in music anymore, and it's all about the music to me.

  • I would never sell out my music not even for a million dollars. I think the record companies have to change their policies towards musicians and be more supportive towards real talent instead of making easy bucks with shows like american idols. YouTube is a blessing!

  • I love music. I love making it. Music has become my life force, my driving force. Still trying to tweak it and perfect it. I love the fact that I can reach and touch so many people through music. I could never see myself getting money and no career after 2 years. Because I would always feel as if I still could make a difference. Money touches people, but I believe music is more powerful.

  • Music is for me all about the feeling but most industrial music has none of it because it is all about the money...i know that im not so talented (guitar/singing) but i make music mainly for myself... and if i were granted those 15 min of fame... i would take it, i would love to have one song that reaches the masses...

  • Music is food for the soul. Music is the universal language of Love. Music has the power to change the world.

I write and sing my songs not for the possibility of fame and fortune so I would not be at all interested in the $1M. I do it because it makes me happy and if other people like it and feel it too then that's great! If not then no problem for me. I want to leave a piece of my soul behind for my kids to see so they can know who I am through my music. That's why I do music.

  • THe rhythm and the melody are the first things I notice about a song ~ that draws me to music ~ As far as the contract... It sounds a bit suicidal ~ just too depressing to be a has been one hit wonder.5*****Jane

  • Music is more of a reflection of ones heart & Soul for me & putting my kids to sleep*

    *M*

    Aloha*

  • I'm not talented in writing my own stuff, but I love the different moods music can get me in.I want to feel the messages...wanna hear what the musician has to say.True emotions and heart and soul!I hate self-satisfied guys playing their songs only for fast money,no matter what quality ! I'd never like to be one of them lol :)

  • BTW...great vid...totally 5 stars...YOU ROCK !

  • Thanks bro......I like to stir the pot of thought.

  • I would feel crap if I only got one music song and then be not cared about anymore. I really would. But for somereason I think if you do, you get dragged into it. No boundaries are there to be show to the producer.

So what for me to do? Easy: write more songs and go for it!

    xoxo a seventeenyearold Janzah

  • ofcourse noone wants to leave the history with only one hit that's nonsence

but still many musitians do that kind of stuff and not only the record companies

  • i dont know why other people get into the music business...but for me...its always been about the love for music and the need to spread it...profit hasnt played much of a part in it...if i were a one hit wonder i could at least say acheived that...as opposed to nothing at all

  • right on bill

  • Thanks you man......love your comment......thanks for posting!

  • Been playing for money most of my life. The musical whore thing only goes so far, when you are creative ie a writer. So, now I write. I get ripped off by producers, who want me to sign my songs over to them, but the PASSION that I feel, that I have, for music, gose way beyond any money that might be handed me. I will play, in some form or another, until I am dead. And that, to me, is what it's all about. Please check my current site joeshowallme.

  • Spoken like a true artist...... Thanks for the comment!

  • Im a musician, I dont give a fuck about money. I live on rice bread and Coca-Cola. If you make music to get rich thats your problem. You cant put a price on a persons soul. Thats why everything you see on TV is straight bullshit. Fake ass people that call themselves musicians all look talk and sing alike, looking like they came off of an assembly line. MUSIC SHOULD BE FREE, IT IS A GIFT FROM GOD.
