  • This version of "The Dating Game" theme (which is the title as well) was used briefly during the 1973-1974 season. It was at the same time they switched from "Lollipops and Roses" by Herb Alpert during the introduction of the selected date, to a tune written by Chuck Barris entitled "Mother Trucker". They soon switched back to the original and did not use it again until the latter 70's. "Spanish Flea" was the intro for a guy to interview 3 girls. "Whipped Cream" was the common intro for a girl.

  • This is the version used in a Toucher and Rich bit. Adds a layer of smiles for me - nostalgia for the early days of that show.....

    (Before they lost their edge).

  • duh

  • While the theme song was not Herb Alpert's the piece played for the intro of the date to the stage WAS ("whipped Cream"). I had twisted that tune in my mind to be the intro to the Newlywed Game, which it was not. That was done for the creator of The Dating Game and the Newlywed Game (yeh Gong show too) Chuck Barris.

The bachelor and bachelorette intro used Alpert's "Spanish Flea", too.

  • I would love to see the episode of Laverene & Shirley where Lenny & Squiggy go on the Dating Game. A VERY FUNNY episode.

  • This version is from the 1977-1980 syndicated series and was on the first game show themed CD "Classic TV Game Show Themes." It was updated for syndication. The ABC daytime and prime time versions of "The Dating Game" always used the original "Dating Game" theme from 1965, the year the show began.

  • I don't think this was used on the 1973-74 syndicated version of the show, since its long run on ABC had just been cancelled at the time of its debut. I'm pretty sure this was used only on the 1978-80, from the clips I have seen. The closing theme that accompanied the goodbye kiss, though, began in the last year on ABC or so; thus, that may well have confused you about the opening.

  • anybody know the actual name of this dating game theme ?

  • If I'm not mistaken, I believe that IS what it is called..."The Dating Game Theme." Often mistakenly attributed to Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass, it was actually recorded by Chet Baker & The Mariachi Brass.
