  • 5:37 "manufacturing of every day items" but a couple of steps are missing. Company secrets I guess...

  • That explains why they are white :D

  • video starts a 00:58

  • 0:05 ITS A DOWNS WITH A LIGHTSABER!! RUN!@!@

  • I cant find the "How it's made babies" video.

    :o)

  • 0:22 to skip crap

  • hes so gay

  • @ixfxi So what if he is?

  • @houseandthensome not that theres anything wrong with that

  • Why was he holding the light? dont those things get really hot and emit some kind of radiation?

  • @ageshero Fluorescent lamps gets hot only on the sides, where the electrodes are placed. The rest of the tube can be handled without too much problems, especially the longer ones.

The tube itself doesn't emit any radiation except the light itself, it's the ballast that does.

  • It's a little over my head but still fascinating

  • why is he holding a light sabor in the beginning?

  • remember, this episode came out in like 2001, so I'm sure they've improved the process since then.

  • nice turtle neck LOL

  • Heated for 30 seconds.. okay got that bit, then automatically bent.. got that, *waits* this machine can do 14 a minute.. Eh :/ surely its 2 per minute, since we saw it getting the molten tubes from one heater? Surely..

  • @bowersbros who said they werent all heated at once and since in the video it bends 3 in about 15 seconds i say its possible

  • 00:11 He looks like a tired jedi

  • these are u-shapes light bulbs

  • Love this show. Watch it whenever I can. But who's the turtleneck guy?

  • Six fashion houses promoting one turtle neck?

  • it has been reported that Agapito Flores received a French patent for a fluorescent bulb and that the General Electric Company bought Flores’ patent rights and manufactured and sold his fluorescent bulb (making millions from it). so agapito flores invented the fluorescent lamp :P

  • Give the credit to who really invented them !!!! Tesla !!!! DUH !!!!

  • The narrator suks ballz he get me sleepy as fuk

  • A modern fluorescent tube does neither buzz nor flash when ignited (EnergySaver Tubelamps e.g. which function as "instant-on" but also such starter devices for Standard tubes exist.). These contain an electronic cicuit using thyistors which immediately ignite the lamp by a short highvoltage impulse flash coming from a capacitor and then keeps the current flowing constantly.

What may keep to be buzzy with time, is the inductive load which is required for some types of fluorescent tubes.

  • These lights give me good memories for some reason, the buzzing and the blue starter light bring back memories.

  • corrections Engineer Flores from the Philippines was the one who invented it, that is why FLUORESCENT is the trade name

  • To the announcer, it's "phosphor," not "phosphorus." Dumb ass.

  • I wonder what the 'emissive substance' is.

Does it include an alpha emitter?

  • Not exactly unaltered... You see, they've been trying to reduce mercury in fluorescent lamps ever since they knew the effects of it.
