@ageshero Fluorescent lamps gets hot only on the sides, where the electrodes are placed. The rest of the tube can be handled without too much problems, especially the longer ones.
The tube itself doesn't emit any radiation except the light itself, it's the ballast that does.
Heated for 30 seconds.. okay got that bit, then automatically bent.. got that, *waits* this machine can do 14 a minute.. Eh :/ surely its 2 per minute, since we saw it getting the molten tubes from one heater? Surely..
it has been reported that Agapito Flores received a French patent for a fluorescent bulb and that the General Electric Company bought Flores’ patent rights and manufactured and sold his fluorescent bulb (making millions from it). so agapito flores invented the fluorescent lamp :P
A modern fluorescent tube does neither buzz nor flash when ignited (EnergySaver Tubelamps e.g. which function as "instant-on" but also such starter devices for Standard tubes exist.). These contain an electronic cicuit using thyistors which immediately ignite the lamp by a short highvoltage impulse flash coming from a capacitor and then keeps the current flowing constantly.
What may keep to be buzzy with time, is the inductive load which is required for some types of fluorescent tubes.

remember, this episode came out in like 2001, so I'm sure they've improved the process since then.

These lights give me good memories for some reason, the buzzing and the blue starter light bring back memories.
meatisdeliciouse 1 year ago
corrections Engineer Flores from the Philippines was the one who invented it, that is why FLUORESCENT is the trade name

To the announcer, it's "phosphor," not "phosphorus." Dumb ass.

I wonder what the 'emissive substance' is.
Does it include an alpha emitter?

Not exactly unaltered... You see, they've been trying to reduce mercury in fluorescent lamps ever since they knew the effects of it.
