Did you do something special, we used today 1 pond of gunpowder(Blackpowder) and the explosion was just bad, so small!!

U must contain black powder for an explosion, if U just have a pile of it (no matter how much) it will jus burn. Now put it in something (thestronger the better) and BOOOM! (steel pipe (pipe bomb)) Cough Cough......
