  • CABO VERDE ....... NHOS TERRA SABI

  • my god! when I see the happiness in the face of the people of Cape Verde, particularly the island of "fogo", the longing that tightens both can not stand the excitement. congratulations, good job

  • @Worldcitizen4, I am not trying to be rude, but I do not understand what your stating in your paragraph.

  • instead of being down with the country that imperialized us and kept us in a third world state for sooooooo long....viva Cabo Verde!

  • great video, i love to see our country in new comers eyes.....kudos to the peace corps fo doing a good job out there.....as to my fellow cvs who have a problem with the word/color black or Africa as a whole, i am tired of arguing with you

peace be with you and god forgives you for not liking yourself, lol

for my fellow cape verdeans who celebrate themselves regardless of what box u check, i am down with you.....i am also down with us being a independent country in the continent of Africa

  • There are so many similarities in Cabo Verde Creole and the Papiamento language of Curacao, Bonaire, and Aruba islands in the Caribbean. Papiamento is a mix of Portuguese and some Dutch words. The former slaves from these were probably from Cabo Verde or any Portuguese territories at the time, no wonder the languages are basically the same. Amazing.

  • Not sure all that was said bout "Black", but no one should call themselves this, its a european word from the mid 14th century, from a german derivative blakkr- meaning "to burn", and is a 2nd class status, this is y ppl in america, who call themsleves blk, get treated they way we do, not knowing the origins of anything but always quick to hold on to wut ur master gave u. We are Moors, from w. africa/n.africa/and mainly hebrew moors out of spain.

  • HI my name is Anthony Feijoo, most of my older family grew up there, and my great great, great, grandpa was the king, i am considered royalty there.

  • wonderfully said!

  • This video has kind of turned me off the whole cape verde holiday thing. :/ i think that this might just be the derilict side. Because i was planning on taking small children and my elderly parents. Is this a good idea? Please tell me.

  • @JellyTray - I just returned from Cape Verde to the US a few days ago. If you're looking to expose your kids to a beautiful national rich in history, music and culture, take them! Some places are safer and more family friendly than others but that goes for any major city around the world. Where do you plan on going? I spent time in Sao Vicente and a two days in Praia.

  • We were thinking of sal, is that a good place, because i have a 13year old and a 7 year old. I want a family holiday, any places that you know that are slightly more built up than this? Thank you @Inkwell80 XXX

  • From Wikipedia

Around 71 percent of the population is Creole of mixed black African and Portuguese descent. The remainder of the population is mostly black Africans, with a small number of whites. The European men who colonized Cape Verde did not usually bring wives or families with them. As female African slaves were brought to the islands, inter-marriages occurred.[9]

  • my dad is FULL cape verdian. and he is deff not black. Cape Verde is a mix of Portuguese, and African cultures who came there. are u people idiots?

  • um sorry to burst your bubble but unlesss he is a white capeveridian he is most likeley black, my great great grandad is portuguese and thats on my nigerian/Sierra leonian side. However that does not make me or the family memebers not black. FULL CAPEVERDIAN? hmm interesting. Because Capeverdian is a nationality not a race, thats like saying full American, well americans can be any race and be FULL american. Cape verde is african and over 90% black, you should be proud that doesnt make you less

  • my dad is derived from the Portuguese portion that makes up Cape Verde. Cape Verde is in the majority mixed-race-Portuguese people.

  • Let me correct you "black" does not constitute race. "black" was created by the west to lump every person of SSA in one group. When a cape verdean says they are full CV they are talking about ethnic group . Just like you in Nigeria you ask someone if they are igbo or fulani etc not what color they are.

African need to stop simplyfing themselves down to an FN color. We are the most diverse in the world. How can a zulu and igbo be simplified to a color?

  • You are the idiot you have know idea what you are talking about. "Black" is a stupid word used by Americans describing anyone of darker complexion of SSA. If your dad is not the 1% of the white CV, than in the U.S. and the West he is condiderd black.

  • viva cabo verde, q los mandatarios de vuestras islas no os engañen....

  • One more thing. . .history is HIS STORY, someone else's story. . .usually written to benefit their own beliefs, culture, country, race, etc. . .It was also written that America was discovered by England. . . we all know that answer (I hope). CV is originally from a marine volcanic erruption, and like we all should knnow people were there before the Portuguese conquered us (independence in 1975). To conquer there has to be something or SOMEONE there first to CONQUER. Fruit for thought. Peace

  • In the question of black and white and the reference is race, for your knowledge Cape Verde Islands is an AFRICAN country, a point of slave trades (unfortunately because of Portugal), however YES we are BLACK! Origins of the motherland- AFRICA. Our mixtures came from slave trades and immigration. But MOST of us (educated ones) are PROUD AFRICANs (BLACK- Negro race). Please be careful when speaking of something you don't know. Peace and much love

    originally from Sao Vicente

  • @ppappose

you're an idiot. i'm cape verdean, and cape verdeans are black. people like you sicken me, destroying our legacy with your lies!

  • Os Cabo-Verdianos? Nao, eles sao mesticos. Nem negro...nem branco! Mas, Cabo Verde parece ser um paraiso!

Cape verdeans? Ah! their mixed, not black...not white, but 'caboverdianos'. Cabo Verde has it's own unique colour :))

    Tchau Gente!

  • Mo ki bai ?

Tud dretu la na Cabo Verde :)

  • top clip thats life

  • Fulani, your a moron, look up what mtDNA means, I'm making stuff up, it on a government website

  • and why not? are the children of people who migrated to american after colonization not americans? what is collin powell not american, or sonya sotomayor? you're not making sense.

  • In correct, there were small bands of african people living on the islands when the colonizers arrived, that "majority however were brought during colonization.

  • fulani, how is cape verde an African country if it was'nt discovered by Africans?

  • Cape verde is not only listed as an african country it is one , your fooling yourself thats like saying "How's key west part of florida"..lol there were Africans living on the islands, before the Portuguese arrived, just more were imported during slavery.

  • Thank you. So many black-latinos, mullatos and passers will not admit they are black.

  • Fuzzybabby I understand where your coming from, but the majority are not African descent, check the stats, also 90% of dominicans are not African descent, check the stats, Africans weren't on the island before euro's came. For the youtubers, it's spelled "Cape Verdean"

  • Comment removed

  • no you're wrong West african slaves were transported from west africa to hispanola as well as other places, , and n 90% of domicans are of african ancestry, to deny this is to deny sceintific historical facts

  • Comment removed

  • i seriously dont know why you would deny this, and by african descent that doesnt mean that there are only of african desccent, . Every domincan I have ever met and at my school has ethier been half black or more, all my domincan friends had a hatian cousin through blood. And africans werent on any of the islands, european brought them there

  • your in correct, 90% of all dominicans are of atleast partial african descent. why is that so hard to except

  • LOVE IT! so true

  • @fulani31 Speak for yourself! We are a blend of many roots, namely Portuguese and West African. There are cv's who look East Indian and some that look Asian. You know that most cv's are mixed, so why are you spreading this mis-information all over the web?

  • @fulani31 hopefully so, but we as africans need to stop all this seperation, one love

  • Why do so many Portuguese claim that their lineage is from the Cape Verdian Islands?

  • your right but lets not kid ourselves the vast majority are of African descent why is this conversation in still going on Does anyone not see how close the islands are to africa there were already african living on CV before europeans came. lol

  • 5 star vid! :)

  • NHOS E PROPI CABECA REJU! SERIOUSLY, I can't believe you guys are arguing about this! Evidently, the word "black" can be perceived as many different things. In this case, as a Cape Verdean I consider myself black, although I am light skinned. Why do I do this? Because I am from Cape Verde, an archipelago off the east coast of Africa. It doesn't matter. We are mixed, African, Portuguese and a whole bunch of things make us. Whatever we claim is what we claim. CV e AFRICANA POR VIDA.

  • @npina07 did you know that Left Eye from the group TLC tather was Cape V.? and Kanye's girlfriend Amber Rose, is half CV and Italian.

  • @dawnye1 i know that Amber Rose is half and I've always wondered Left Eye was cv especially with her last name being Lopes with a 's' not a 'z' showing no spanish descent. & that beautiful mulata completion, good to know =)

  • i have a friend thats cape veridian or whateva you call it......but yo she looks like a white girl !

  • sexxii mamii, you do'nt get it, there is no black race, no one belongs to a black or white race. try to study race. your agruement is pointless because you don't have any evidence to support your theory, you just keep saying the same thing," they belong to the black race, no. Can you read or comprehend, I said no one black or white, why keep repeating black, there no such thing as black, and do'nt mention white because that dos'nt exist either, I'm not going elaborate on that research yourself.

  • as black people are known as black people are defined they belong to that group it wasnt a mystery what racial group lisa lopes belonged to. I dont rely on race as a definition of myself, Im Dominican 1/4 Nigerian 1/4 sierra leonian My great great granddad on my sierra leon side is full portuguese, and I have an italian great grandmother on my father side, I know that everyone in my backgorund isnt black but I am in a social context black white, and everything else exists

  • sexiimamii you still do'nt get it, Cape Verdeans are not simply black, no one is black or white, you don't know what race is, I'm full Cape verdean and I know what I'm do'nt label us label yourself, do you knoow what Indigenous African is ? explain what "black" means, because you can't

  • oh my goodess! STOP OVER ANALYZING SHIT! take my comment as what it simply means Cape Verdeans BELONG TO THE BLACK RACE. duh of course they're not simply black because no one on earth is simply black, simply asian, or simply asian! wtf! that's exactly what i said in my other comment! can you read??! im not going to argue with you anymore because this shit and your argument is pointless! JESUS!!!

  • TYPO* what i meant to say is "simply black, simply white, or simply asian!"

  • Why do people feel the need to give a country extra euro padding. Simply black? I didnt know black people were merley simple. look being black has less to do with whether you nose is straight or you mommy is white, and more to do with the fact that when you are of black lineage you inherit a legacy of culture to is quite strong. That's why obama is black not because he isn't multiracial, but because he inherited that legacy and lived and breathed black culture, because it was part of him euro

  • Comment removed

  • . I love Africans and I embrace my African roots, but the argument is about ethnicity. White and black is not an ethnicity nor race is doesnt have content what so ever, people get the concepts of race, nationality, and ethnicity confused when they are distinguishable. People can't even define what white or black means

  • 71% of Cape Verdeans are mixed and 73% of Dominicans are mixed, the mixture are similar, so do you think Dominicans are so called 'black, why do people say we are "black" or say our ethnicity is full African but wont say that about Dominicans, it doesnt make sense, it like labeling twins separate ethnicities when they are the same.

  • They say that because they are uneducated. most black people have mixed ancestry even the black people on the african continent. I consider most dominicans to be black. since 90% of dominicans are of significant African Descent. Cape verdeans, are literally Afro-latino African latin people. There are african latin living within Africa as well. being black doesnt mean you dont have a multiracial background its a cultural inheritance.

  • I am trying to understand your logic...Dominicans culturally are considered latinos because of where they are located. Since we are an African country located in West Africa...we are West African. When someone refers to someone being black(in the states) they mean dark people of African descent that's what we are(even though we have single digit Euro ancestry lol). Just because you are of AFrican decent does not mean culturally we are all the same. Africa has vast numbers cultures and groups.

  • How can someone know what a Cape Verdean is, if they dont know anything about it?

  • I dont understand this self-hate among Africans, why do they want to claim a country as whole African when its a portion of it and claim a country thats not their ethnicity or label a country something that its not, are they that oppressed. They want to claim Cape Verde as their ethnicity so they can get accepted by the fallacious norms of society, that sad. Some Africans have an identity issue, don't place the burden of identity on Cape Verdeans, we know who we are so dont' label us.

  • I'm talking about mtDNA not features, you can't assume a person ethnicity by their features, features vary in all ethnicities. Cape Verdeans are very different from sub-Saharan African countries and Africans noticed this as far as culture and looks as they imply.

  • hahahhahaha i just looked this far back in the comments... that's a complete lie

the MtDNA(maternal DNA) of CV is virtually 100% West African. please reference the study you are talking about... all of the studis I've seen show all of CV(this includes the mixed population) as having 100% mtdna of ssafrica. the Paternal DNA shows about half SSAFRica. Single digit traces of Euro and the rest of Middle East/N. Africa.

  • mt DNA indicates they have the lowest percent of sub-Saharan African blood of all the mixtures and they were like that before they arrived, hundreds of years of a go and till this day. Look up the Cape Verdean Diaspora. I dont use the terms black or white because they are not ethnicities. Full blooded Sub-Saharan Africans are the minority of Cape Verdeans which makes about a quarter.

  • Comment removed

  • fact, that little "non-black" that you entailed that Cape Verdeans have is false. The full European descent Cape Verdeans, which make up 1% of Cape Verde today because they migrated all over, is the majority of the social class, there are over a million of them living in the U.S as well as, over a million mixed Cape Verdeans living in the U. S.

  • As quoted on the government website, Cape Verde is the mixed capital of the whole African continent", which makes up three quarters of the islands ethnicity, so yes it makes sense for Cape Verdeans to claim mixed.

  • these comments are responses for sexiimamii

  • Where did you get this notion of Cape Verdeans having wavy hair, Cape Verdeans have all hair textures, kinky, straight, curly, fine, wavy etc. and skin complexion vary, which is why people don't know what Cape Verdeans look like and why people can't assume a countries ethnicity. Its common for an irrational person to see one Cape Verdean and reflect the individual's features to Cape Verdeans as a whole and develop an image of the ethnicity they assume Cape Verdeans are by categorizing.

  • sexiimamii I'm just stating the facts, I did'nt mean to insult your philosophy, look up enthicities of countries on a government website. I'm speaking about enthnicity not race, race is a theory scholars do'nt know which race exists, I never said anything about black or white because those are not race, enthinicity or a nationality, it only describes skin pigmentation, which is why I do'nt use those terms, I use enthnic terms African European etc. no one black/white there is no black/white race

  • The discussion on race is misguided, as the first post stated 100% Cape verdean implies that you are a mixture of everything as these islands were uninhabited until 1463. Cape Verdeans are beautiful communal, peaceful people. The idea of forcing identity upon them is a bit of an affront. Why are peoples minds confined to color, race, ethnicity? Viva Cabo Verde, let them be just cape-verdeans!

  • Cape Verdeans, 71% of them are multiracial, 28% are full blooded Africans, and 1% are full European, Cape Verde is a nationality not a race. I'm multiracial but I'm 100% Cape Verdean, my parents were born on the island and both are of African, European, and Indigenous Brazilian & Cuban descent. People read, learn about a country's history before making assumptions because of its geography.

  • there's no such thing as being full blooded African because all Africans, in fact all humans, are mixed, no matter skin tone or hair texture. also, it makes no sense for a cape verdeans to claim multiracial when indeed they are black! that mixture happened HUNDREDS of years ago! it amazes me how some cape verdeans are so hung up on claiming mixed when they have a few non black people in their lineage HUNDREDS of years ago. embrace your blackness!

  • @617212305312213 Practically 100% of cape verdeans that are not descending of recent immigrant is a not pure black. A person from Senegal or Mali can distinguish between a dark skin mestizo and a pure black in the same way that a person prom Spain or Germany can distinguish between Whitney Houston or Alicia Keys and a pure white.

  • HEY CAPE VERDEANS ARE CONSIDERED BLACK.....WE ARE OFF THE WEST COAST OF AFRICA..THAT MAKES US AFRICAN...IN THIS WORLD THERE IS ACTUALLY ONLY TWO RACES...BLACK AND WHITE....SO YES SPANISH, ASIAN, AND SO FORTH ARE ALL BLACK...THEY PUT US ALL IN A CATEGORY CALLED MINORITIES..FOR THOSE WHO DON'T KNOW MUCH, NEED TO GO DO SOME RESEARCH..i DON'T THINK THAT SEXXIIMAMII WAS ACTUALLY SAYING THAT WE ARE ALL BLACK(DARK) SHE MEANT AS A RACE, WE ARE BLACK AS IN AFRICAN). CABO VERDE FOR LIFE...

  • wtf! lmfao! of course any idiot knows that not all CV people are dark skinned they come in all colors, all Africans come in many different colors, shapes, and sizes. and for your information im not dark, im light skinned just like my mother and father.

  • yes, all africans are black as in the BLACK RACE not dark, not that there's anything wrong with being dark skinned. and yes sweety i do know my facts about my father's country. because he does not claim it, i feel the need to.

  • so what if some cape verdeans are mixed?! they still belong to the black race. you need to pick up a damn book and read because all africans are mixed but they still belong to the black race! quite frankly, you need to learn how to form coherrent sentences and learn how to type because it was hard for me to understand your comment because it didn't make ANY SENSE! you are truely a dumbass and need to stay in school!

  • but I don't get it...I'm not denying my ancectry...I'm proud of where I come from. Sorry if I came on any different

  • @sexiimamii I think that is a Eurocentric point of view see only a pure white as white and not do it to others races, for example, see only a pure black as black and only a pure Indian as Indian. To a pure black form Senegal or Mali a mixed person is not a black. Even the persons from Sub-Saharan Africa that are not mestizos don't belong tthe same race, because a person from southern africa is differe form one from occidental Africa.

  • so beautiful! i'd love to go there someday. longo vive Cabo Verde!
