As much as I love Superman, I was heavily disappointed with the writing of Superman in JL and JLU. I think this scene was a way for them to say sorry to all of Supes' fans - but it's completely nullified what Darkseid does after this scene. I would have preferred it if they ended the series like the ending of the comic 'Supergirl from Krypton.'
The weakness of Justice League Unlimited is that they stopped concentrating on singular characters. They just tried to get as many characters in as possible. When characters had their own show, you had respect for them. They couldn't create that respect for every character. In Justice League, they did okay, but Unlimited went too far.

@ThePurpleSpartan It makes sense that he would hold back against the enemies you mentioned (save for Darkseid). It doesn't show much here, but Darkseid is basically at the power level of a God and is a Galactic threat that Superman can't afford to hold back on.
Metallo, Captain Marvel, Luthor etc...are tough but are still human and as tough as they are would not be able to take Superman's true power.

Frank Miller's been mentioned and if I remember correctly he's expressed regret about "The Dark Knight" leading writers to portraying Batman as a cold, cynical, near-psychotic who only tolerated Superman with grudging respect. @antdujar I agree that certain writers mishandle Superman. When he's written correctly he's comics' ultimate badass as far as heroes go. And it goes way beyond his being Kryptonian. He has a willpower and determination that to me pushes his abilities considerably beyond what a typical Kryptonian on Earth could do. Him against the Hulk? Depends on who you like better. My money's on Superman.
My money's on Superman as well, but that depends, Hulk is certainly capable of reaching strength beyond Superman but if Supes remembers he has super-speed for once, Hulk won't be able to make it up to that point.
That and one has to remember he can reach outer space, or at least, comic book Supes can, so he could always toss Hulk into space.

ill end this arguement right now....superman and batman are both very dangerous Superman is damn near unbreakable, super strong and superfast. Batman doesnt have powers but if you gave him time to prepare he simply can not be beaten. The fact is they are both heroes and respect each other, batman fans need to stop trying to prove he has a bigger dick becasue frank miller said this in one of his shitty comics. Superman fans need to understand hes superman but has weaknesses some easy to exploit

While Superman fans are annoying because they think that having superpowers means that it's impossible for him to lose, and that any comic book that has him lose a fight is complete bullshit.

Superman has to place mental inhibitors on his powers to keep from doing to much damage to the Earth. Even with these restraints, he's still one of the strongest. If pulling something through space 2x the size of Earth doesn't persuade you, or the fact that he pushed the Earth away from someone who was trying to make it go into a Black Hole, try this then: One of his punches BROKE REALITY!

The only time superman should be able to beat Darkseid is by luck or with help. Doomsday was a dumb idea, if any villain of superman's was to kill him it should have been Darkseid. They always down play Darkseids power's in every show or animated movie he's in. Superman to but Darkseid is downplayed big time.

Yeah, he climbs out of a black hole, yet is beaten by villains constantly, that sounds like something that's extremely out of his league, was this during World War Hulk? Because that Hulk was written with a jobbing aura, the writing made everyone else either weak or stupid. It's not valid. Meanwhile PC Supes has been consistently portrayed with this kind of strength. And I can't stand when people deny facts that are right in front of them.

The only time I have seen superman lose is to doomsday, but other than that hes pretty much vaguely invincible. Hulk may be some what of a godlike character, but superman is just ridiculous in my opinion. I would rather see a hero that lose more, but yet always comeback somehow, which to me adds more suspense and excitement, rather than some god mode character with the cliche good guys always win.

@antdujar I agree that certain writers mishandle Superman. When he's written correctly he's comics' ultimate badass as far as heroes go. And it goes way beyond his being Kryptonian. He has a willpower and determination that to me pushes his abilities considerably beyond what a typical Kryptonian on Earth could do. Him against the Hulk? Depends on who you like better. My money's on Superman.

My money's on Superman as well, but that depends, Hulk is certainly capable of reaching strength beyond Superman but if Supes remembers he has super-speed for once, Hulk won't be able to make it up to that point.
That and one has to remember he can reach outer space, or at least, comic book Supes can, so he could always toss Hulk into space.

He could probably beat savage hulk with his speed, but World war hulk is known for good agility, strength, and intellect. He is good at making battle strategies, so The green scar would put up an even better fight, but savage hulk most likely would lose
